Another good piece of entertainment. I only rarely bought Mad, not that I didn’t like it, I did, but I always spent most of my money on science fiction paperbacks (remember Ace doubles?) which didn’t leave much money for Mad.
When I did buy a copy it was virtually always because there was a parody of a television show or movie I liked within its covers.
Sometime in the ’90s a book about Mad was published more or less as a biography/tribute to William Gaines after his death in 1992 (I don’t remember who the author was, but he was employed by Mad) what now stands out is that it was a bit of a whitewash. There was no mention of any disputes with Gaines with anybody at all.
One anecdote from that book was of the author recalling overhearing Gaines calling a creditor of Mad demanding to know why a bill had not been sent to Mad that month (he was apparently a stickler for paying bills on time, if not writers / see the Don Martin chapter that begins at 6:22).
This website, “World Population Review,” apparently uses United States government and United Nations figures to compile its tables but it does not claim to be a department of either.
The tables rate countries as first, second, or third world.
There is a table that lists fourth world countries, but it is for the most part a breakout of recognized population subsets within their respective countries.
My opinion of the site is that while I would do my best to verify its findings before making a decision using its findings, its findings would be verifiable.

I think I’ve got all of them pretty fast; now checking.
New Yorkers in Seattle are always kvetching about the bagels and the pizza. I come from the greater NewYork area and I know what the good stuff tastes like. I have found acceptable versions of both here. But I am still looking for a good kaiser roll!
I wondered what “booch” was. Presumably, its use as a national day is related to a form of kombucha known as booch. However, it is also a slang term for cocaine. WTH??

I’ve got eight differences. I’d say the ninth is one of two things. Either the martini is made with gin, then vodka, or the headlines on the newspaper in the vending machine are different.

Some years ago, a friend received a boxed set from Costco, as a gift… a digital archive of MAD magazine, to date.
I’d seen it there. I think it cost $50… with supposedly every picture and cartoon they’d ever published.

I coveted it… So for my birthday, he kindly copied every disk for me…
Yeah yeah… I know… But it was long gone from Costco, and I couldn’t afford it anyway.

I looked at it some, but nowhere near all of it…
And I still have it… Somewhere… in a box…
All zillion…..FLOPPY DISKS.
Sigh….

I’ve seen usb floppy disk readers.
Maybe some day I’ll have to get one, but I don’t have that much on floppy that isn’t saved elsewhere, by now.
But still… that’s the problem with saving things in current media, and another reason I like cloud storage.

I remember how great it seemed when the new floppies came out that held a whopping 1.44 MEGAbytes! Wow… on one disk!
Now the pictures from my phone are each more than twice that size.
Software used to come on floppies, too…
But to install Windows 10…(dunno about 11)…
It would take twenty thousand floppy disks.

That way, they can be baked just till brown, but the inside will be done.

A lot of grocery store and popular, so-called bagels aren’t boiled, but steamed before baking, instead, and they’re too soft and mushy.
But for you to enjoy the unique, traditional texture of a real bagel, they must be very fresh, and/or heated…
Steamed is traditional, but many prefer them toasted.
Just don’t try to chew a cold, two-day-old bagel and think that’s how they’re meant to be!
