That is actually a friendly-looking face. Unless you’re an insect, I presume.

But… no.

Uh… Steve… I think I’d be scared to come to tea at your house.

How about a ten-lined June Beetle (Not that big, but big enough!) climbing up your leg inside your jeans? I demonstrated the world’s fastest strip tease and still became an entomologist several years later!

All joking aside, that is a very striking insect. I’ve always liked how shiny beetles can be.

So I will only say this, by way of a hint, if you want one…

not much of a spoiler, really… but just in case…

It’s more realistic looking than what you’d guess from the rest of the image.

The cat I had back in college was very feisty and independent, not cuddly, though very affectionate on her own terms.

Even petting her when she acted like she wanted it would get you nipped or scratched when she changed her mind.

She got some kind of skin problem, and the vet wanted me to bathe her… but getting her anywhere near a sink full of water turned her into a vicious ball of teeth and claws. I thought I’d be killed.

Then I discovered that if I picked her up, quickly, by the scruff of her neck, she would go instantly catatonic.
Her mouth would open, her eyes roll back, and her legs hang down straight and stiff.

I think in a few cats it must be a holdover from early kittenhood, when Mama carried them. The second you let go she would spring back into action.

If I filled the sink first with warm water, and put her in it, in that state, she didn’t mind when she came to… She seemed to enjoy the warm bathing.

She didn’t enjoy the toweling off or the being wet, but at least I lived through the experience.

I’ve never seen a flightline without several around. Usually far bigger than the one shown.

Not really a vintage picture.

Just posed for guys like you.

(Her makeup, her tight trousers, with slanted pockets, and the fit of her shirt didn’t exist in the era it supposedly represents…

Not to mention the empty belt loops and those thin soft leather push-up sleeves.

All stuff you have to be able to recognize when you sell vintage clothing.)

How modern? I think this trainer was built in the 50’s but used well into the 60’s.

It looks too thin to be an older spanner, and combination spanners weren’t very common back in the ’50s & ’60s, at least here in the UK. Only very high quality spanners of that sort of vintage were that thin. I have a set of good quality Britool spanners from the early 1980’s that are thin, but most of my colleagues’s sets were quite a bit thicker.

I got my power back tonight while i was at my clients pm shift. Probably just after i left for the shift. By the time i got home it was up to almost 60º. Its now up to 64º and I’m very happy.
By the time got home the water was hot enough for a long (luxurious) shower and it made me happy.
I’m in a warm bed with crisp clean sheets and that make me happy.
Freezing rain is forecast for tomorrow.
As long as i stay warm and stay on the road i don’t care. Right now i’m warm. And with my pets. And nothing tops that.

Two days and nights.
It was far more brutal than i would have thought. I’m not as young as i used to be.
What made it worse is i was seeing the kids down the street out running around in the cold having a blast.
Brrrrrr!!!

I love this poster!

Stel often asked me (till recently, of course) for suggestions about what posters she should rerun… It’s hard to keep making that decision, and to find what hasn’t been seen for a while, and such.

Of course, favorites play into it. Even though she created them, there are some of her own posters she likes better than others… And she and I have different taste in her work, which is kind of funny.

I suggested this one a bunch of times, but she’s always found some reason not to run it… I think I like it better than she does.

…..

Like Hello Doggy on the poster, I have some stuff from Hello Kitty I like to wear.

When this poster came out, I had to rush to the Sandoggio store and get some Hello Doggy jewelry.

Isn’t it pretty?

Makrout.

Somewhat similar in looks and ingredients, but quite different in taste and texture.

The cookie part of a Fig Newton is rather soft and dry, a bit crumbly, and the filling bland. Easy to eat by the handful.

The makrout I’ve tried was much sweeter and very sticky, and had rosewater or some such in it and spices, and the filling used dates instead of figs.

I don’t know how typical it was, because it wasn’t from a bakery. A neighbor used to make it for her Turkish husband.

She taught me to make baklava, though, j and it was great. Of course we used purchased phyllo… And I leave out the rosewater.

I haven’t made it in years, cos it’s still a pain, and quite expensive.

She got the recipes from his mother.

I’m not about to stretch my own phyllo dough OR my grandmother’s strudel, which, sadly, I never got to taste.

Meant to ask for a couple of days….
Did I miss DennisinSeattle saying he was going anywhere?

He hasn’t been here in quite a while, nor on GoComics either.

I don’t like to raise the alarm too early, but by now I’m getting concerned.
