use your finger to block out the middle dark and white section and you’ll see that both the top and the bottom shades of grey are in fact the same color
My eyes keep telling me that all five of you above (from his comment nighthawks sees what the bottom four of you see) me are correct; that there’s still a difference in colour between the halves even after the middle is covered up.
I checked the RGB’s and Saturation numbers of both the top and bottom halves.
By Paint’s colour checker function, they are indeed the same.
The white bit at the division between is different though, but that’s where the illusion starts.

Maybe we’re not covering up a wide enough band on the middle.
What I usually do in Paint to persuade myself without bothering to compare the numbers, which are an abstract concept, is just quickly use the eyedropper tool to pick up one color or the other.
Then use the marker tool to draw a wide line on the other side. If you can’t see it, they’re the same color.
Mt St Helens eruption, 1980. by the looks of the direction of that killer cloud, that photographer is in BIG trouble . Not sure if this was one of those found in the aftermath.

I had a little charge on my phone and tablet, but I thought I should conserve them in case we had to go all night without power. Luckily, it came back around 5.
Also… Sorry if my puzzle solution looks a bit sloppy. My best stylus broke, and I had to use a less reliable one.
Time to go back to the dollar store… Only now I think they’re 3 dollars.

I’ve been having a hard time reaching her directly, and her sister or niece hasn’t called me.
It’s rare that anybody picks up in her room. As far as I know she still needs help to answer or hold the phone, so probably no one else was there.

He hasn’t answered my email, and the last comment on his GoComics profile says 19 days ago. It’s about the same here but I didn’t count.
I hope he’s ok and just spaced on letting us know he was going out of town or some such.

Not even nighthawks’ posting of the Space Needle picture on January 11 drew a response from him.
I did a quick search of recent Seattle obituaries, but none of the Dennises listed seemed to fit by either date of their death or location.

1. I’ve always liked this song. It’s another one where the beat gets to me.
2. John Fogerty composed this. I find the lyrics a bit confusing. He’s singing about leaving a sinking ship behind, flying feet, wind, and catching a ride to the end of the highway; but hey, it’s C.C.R. and all of them can play.
3. This is the first outing for Brian Johnson as AC/DC’s lead singer following the death of Bon (Ronald) Scott (who also did some drumming for the band). There are some conflicting stories around the cause and time of Scott’s death (officially acute alcohol poisoning / unofficially by those with him that night a heroin overdose / pronounced dead at the hospital after transport by authorities / unofficially known about by friends hours before calling said authorities). There is a statue of him in Freemantle, Western Australia (picture below).
4. I like Rod Stewart’s raspy voice (there will be more in list 3).
5. I’ve never added brown sugar to my scones, and I don’t think I’m going to start now, cornmeal would give them an interesting flavour I think and I might try that. I’ve put a link to my mother’s ‘Scotch Cream Scone’ recipe I posted on American Thanksgiving in 2022 below (there was a good skit by Lucille Ball posted that that day too).

Why do you mention scones in connection with that recipe?
This one is for a pourable batter, with brown sugar and cornmeal, baked in muffin tins.
It doesn’t sound very good to me…
But it has no relation to what you put in scone dough, which is patted out and cut like biscuits, often “baked” on the stovetop.
