use your finger to block out the middle dark and white section and you’ll see that both the top and the bottom shades of grey are in fact the same color
My eyes keep telling me that all five of you above (from his comment nighthawks sees what the bottom four of you see) me are correct; that there’s still a difference in colour between the halves even after the middle is covered up.
I checked the RGB’s and Saturation numbers of both the top and bottom halves.
By Paint’s colour checker function, they are indeed the same.
The white bit at the division between is different though, but that’s where the illusion starts.
I believe you but I still can’t see it!
Maybe we’re not covering up a wide enough band on the middle.
What I usually do in Paint to persuade myself without bothering to compare the numbers, which are an abstract concept, is just quickly use the eyedropper tool to pick up one color or the other.
Then use the marker tool to draw a wide line on the other side. If you can’t see it, they’re the same color.
Mt St Helens eruption, 1980. by the looks of the direction of that killer cloud, that photographer is in BIG trouble . Not sure if this was one of those found in the aftermath.
Here is a LINK that says the photograph is real and purports to tell the story of it. I’m not really convinced, but as we know everything on the ‘net is true so this must be too.
Got all nine on the first look through, so that’s an achievement for me. Normally I’ll find most of them, then have to go back later to find (Hopefully) the rest.
Sorry to be missing yesterday… I fell asleep at the time I usually post, not even turning out the light or putting my devices on their chargers…
That’s happened a few times lately. I’m happy when I can sleep early but I’d prefer that it were planned… not waking up with my tablet on my nose. I’ll take it, though.
And then yesterday (still today to me as I write), once I got up, the electricity went out in my neighborhood, and was off all day..
I had a little charge on my phone and tablet, but I thought I should conserve them in case we had to go all night without power. Luckily, it came back around 5.
Also… Sorry if my puzzle solution looks a bit sloppy. My best stylus broke, and I had to use a less reliable one.
Time to go back to the dollar store… Only now I think they’re 3 dollars.
In answer to Alexi’s questions… I’ve been meaning to post this to everybody, so thanks for the reminder….
No news about StelBel.
I’ve been having a hard time reaching her directly, and her sister or niece hasn’t called me.
It’s rare that anybody picks up in her room. As far as I know she still needs help to answer or hold the phone, so probably no one else was there.
….
As for Dennis… By now I admit that I’m worried.
He hasn’t answered my email, and the last comment on his GoComics profile says 19 days ago. It’s about the same here but I didn’t count.
I hope he’s ok and just spaced on letting us know he was going out of town or some such.
If any of you has any information about that, please share!
Or if you have his phone number, now would be a good time to call him. Ok, you’re right… wait till morning.
Dennis last posted on GoComics on New Year’s Day, and that may have been posted on December 31 at GoComics rollover (I can’t really say, but I do know that GoComics rolls over for me / and Montana Lady) at 23:00 hrs. M.S.T. which would make it 22:00 hrs. P.S.T.).
His last post here was (by the time-of-posting-clock) was at 12:12 A.M. E.S.T. (00:12 hrs.) December 31; which would make it 9:12 P.M. (21:12 hrs.) December 30 Seattle time (WordPress uses E.S.T. as its time zone base).
Not even nighthawks’ posting of the Space Needle picture on January 11 drew a response from him.
I did a quick search of recent Seattle obituaries, but none of the Dennises listed seemed to fit by either date of their death or location.
Like Susan, I’m becoming concerned though.
Today’s Songs:
1. ‘The Race is On,’ 2. ‘Up Around The Bend,’ 3. ‘You Shook Me All Night Long,’ and 4. ‘You Wear it Well,’ and the ‘Cheap Thrills Cuisine’ recipe (and this one’s name should appeal to happy³) 5. ‘Cornmeal Bunny Bites’
1. I’ve always liked this song. It’s another one where the beat gets to me.
2. John Fogerty composed this. I find the lyrics a bit confusing. He’s singing about leaving a sinking ship behind, flying feet, wind, and catching a ride to the end of the highway; but hey, it’s C.C.R. and all of them can play.
3. This is the first outing for Brian Johnson as AC/DC’s lead singer following the death of Bon (Ronald) Scott (who also did some drumming for the band). There are some conflicting stories around the cause and time of Scott’s death (officially acute alcohol poisoning / unofficially by those with him that night a heroin overdose / pronounced dead at the hospital after transport by authorities / unofficially known about by friends hours before calling said authorities). There is a statue of him in Freemantle, Western Australia (picture below).
4. I like Rod Stewart’s raspy voice (there will be more in list 3).
5. I’ve never added brown sugar to my scones, and I don’t think I’m going to start now, cornmeal would give them an interesting flavour I think and I might try that. I’ve put a link to my mother’s ‘Scotch Cream Scone’ recipe I posted on American Thanksgiving in 2022 below (there was a good skit by Lucille Ball posted that that day too).
Great set!!! The Race is On is one I’d long forgotten; and your right about the beat. I ended up dancing to the whole set (Rod Stewart was a nice ‘cool-down’ song).
.
NOSE!
Cairo, Egypt
What would Cleo(patra) think of Cairo if she could see it now?
She would probably make haste to get her asp out of town.
Boo! 🙂
It looks like there are some buildings with no streets in between, but I’m sure there are some… They must be very narrow.
You’d think in a desert country there’d be plenty of room for wide streets…
But even long ago when the land was undeveloped and… ahem… dirt cheap, North Africa was known for the narrow, twisting streets of the Casbahs…
(Casbah meaning the old city, not the fortresses.)
Shadow and anything to keep the sand out are welcome.
use your finger to block out the middle dark and white section and you’ll see that both the top and the bottom shades of grey are in fact the same color
that’s my story and I’m sticking to it
The bottom still looks a little lighter to me.
Maybe it’s me.
That’s how I see it also.
me, too…..
Same here.
That’s what I see too.
I think the shading on the rounded edges up top continue to influence the perceived difference.
Yes… I think you’re right.
Depends how big your finger is…

Problem is, I don’t have Paint on my tablet.
I did exactly what you described, and the resulting line was invisible.

A work by Russian artist, Djerih Angela.
All the works I’ve found by her are listed by the gallery as “untitled.”
Is that their nighttime pickle, or are they just waking up to have their morning pickle?
since it’s on a train, it could be a surveillance pickle
Wow… How could I have forgotten to think of (not to mention, mention) the security uses of pickles on the train?!
I guess we’re all going to have to watch “Murder on the Midnight Express” again, as a reminder, aren’t are?
Seems like a good idea to me.
But I don’t know what happened to the ark of the kibble yet!
Well of course, even if Nighthawks agreed to run another series we’d have to finish this adventure first!
I wouldn’t want to walk away from Indiana Bones OR the Ark in peril, without knowing what happens!

A LINK to all twelve chapters under its original title as per the poster.

A video by the artist, Michael Halbert, about the making of this type of artwork.
Interesting video, and amazing work…. but almost ruined by his use of some sort of artificial or AI generated voice.
2 NOSES!
I might have found nine differences, unless two of mine are really only one.
Found all nine.
I got seven real fast.
Time to bring you the solution… though those of you who haven’t tried it yet had better do so before SuperBasset sees you peeking.
Remember he has X-ray vision!
So do your best… and when you’re truly ready…
BTW… from the Silly Me Department:
I was looking at SuperBasset, thinking it was a shame that his costume wasn’t distinct from Superman’s.
Then I thought… Right, Nighthawks blew it!
SuperBasset should be wearing a B, not an S!
I was all ready to write to Nighthawks, and point out his “mistake”….
I don’t even want to admit how long it took me to realize… Um… Superman doesn’t wear an M, does he?
Found all nine.
The “S” is Kryptonian for “Hope”.
Otherwise, Superman would have to wear “X6P”…
The like is for finding nine…
I have to say I don’t understand the last part 🥺
Extra 6-Pack.
Got all nine on the first look through, so that’s an achievement for me. Normally I’ll find most of them, then have to go back later to find (Hopefully) the rest.
I’m with Tigressy and More Cats this morning. Found all nine quickly. Huzzah!
found them all, took a little while, not a whole lot
YEA! I found 7!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

maybe he’s on a cruise and didn’t get a time to write?
That’s what I’m hoping…
A lot of cruises and train trips and other kinds of tours begin and end in Seattle.
So many questions!
Can you still ride in them?
Are they useful for yard maintenance, or only kept as pets?
Can you feed them wheat straw, or are they gluten free?
Heckuva mustache on that bug.

LINK TO SCOTCH CREAM SCONES RECIPE
Why do you mention scones in connection with that recipe?
This one is for a pourable batter, with brown sugar and cornmeal, baked in muffin tins.
It doesn’t sound very good to me…
But it has no relation to what you put in scone dough, which is patted out and cut like biscuits, often “baked” on the stovetop.
