London Zoo, 1939 is the only trustworthy description I could find.
There was one link that yielded a specific date in 1939 but there was no further corroboration.

Just a couple of old pals. Chewing the fat, as it were.

W.C. Fields hated dogs and children – but that little boy looks just like him…

What is the quality of this picture, like another one a couple of days ago, that makes it so obviously vintage?

The little boy’s clothes, shoes, and haircut, yes… but there’s something else.

I think if a modern child wore all that for a picture, it wouldn’t look old anyway.

..

The quality of the light, the sharp focus without great depth of field… maybe the large, clear, negatives, or the chemical developers of the day?

Even the faces of the children they chose for models have a different look.

You know instantly that this wasn’t taken in 2022, or even 1966.

Scary.

I thought that’s what it was, and shuddered to see it.

I remember a magazine photo story of children in various countries with weapons left from different wars…

sitting on them, even playing with them…

some digging them up to sell for their metals and chemicals, a dangerous occupation.

Some have been injured, especially in uncleared minefields, others killed by working for pennies to clear them…

Some also killed by exploding bombs that may have been dormant for years.

An international disgrace.

Here we are, back to a normal size BatBasset and Sparrow

Yesterday’s towering table has become a low coffee table, and the creepy puddles of (we hope) water are of much less menacing dimensions.

Our Caped Canines at last stand tall, looking skyward… well, ceiling-ward anyway.. in a classically heroic pose.

In the very next panel, they’re looking up again… this time, at a well-lit window… it’s the Evil White Cat’s half-hidden hideaway!

Holy hubris, BatBasset!

What supreme over-confidence comic villains tend to display!

A brightly lit den, a loud, evil laugh… and mocking your victims before you’re positive they’re secure… good moves, EWC.

As for the cocky Dr. Ratbreth… he leaves his prized invention unsecured, in a wet basement, in close proximity to the captive canines…

… who, while currently caged (or so he thinks,) have bested many a villain before.

Brilliant.

….

Just how did our heroes miss that plainly labelled secret listening device, BTW?

It just shows that when you live in a comic strip, reading is very important.

I know that adventure is tempting, and a superhero’s life beckons…

But first, kids… STAY IN SCHOOL!

(A public service announcement from your local Board of Superheroes.)

….

Meanwhile, as BatBasset and Sparrow climb… quietly creeping ever closer, they hope, to overcoming the forces of evil…

We are left to ponder… what awaits them beyond that window?

When will we know?

As Batbasset and Sparrow are showing their “ginger….”

From:
“The Laura Secord Canadian Cook Book”
Prepared by the Canadian Home economics association
Published by McClelland and Stewart Limited Toronto/Montreal
ISBN: 0-7710-4080-6

“Ginger Snaps”

These Newfoundland cookies aave the real
old-fashioned “snap” to them and will
make excellent gingerbread men, too, if
dough is rolled a little thicker.

Preheat oven to 375° F.

Grease a baking sheet lightly.

Bring to a boil
1/4 cup water
1/2 cup molasses
1/3 cup shortening

Cool.

Sift together
2 cups all-purpose flour
2/3 cup granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
pinch of salt
1 tablespoon ginger
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Stir dry ingredients onto molasses mix-
ture. Chill 1 hour.

Roll dough out on a lightly floured sur-
face to 1/8 inch thickness. Cut with a
cookie cutter. Place about 1 inch apart
on prepared baking sheet.

Bake in 375° oven for 5 to 8 minutes,
or until lightly browned.

Makes 6 dozen.

Notes from me:
Lard is probably a bit too heavy for this recipe, so I’d use a vegetable shortening.
Bake on the second rack (top rack is first).
Keep a close eye on them from the 5 minute mark.

From yesterday re: vertigo and pattern

If you’re on blood pressure pills, remember that vertigo is a common side effect.
It usually occurs immediately after you stand up, even at a normal rate.
I’ve had that side effect.
I will now give you the only medical advice I’m qualified to give you; get your medical doctor’s advice.

best guess at this point is that it’s because of crystals in the fluid in my inner ear. It happens to some people that get older.
It’s actually a mechanical issue.
Those crystals make contact with the sensory hairs in the system it ends up getting false information to the brain.
Dizziness.

If the vertigo occurs when you move your head a certain way (for example rolling over in bed), canalith repositioning can fix it. I’ve done it for several people. Your local ENT can probably do it, or you can use these instructions to do it at home.

Nope. It’s more random than that. And there may be another trigger involved. I’m noticing some weird patterns.
Stuff that doesn’t always trigger it, but is common enough when it does happen.

I’m sorry the clip from Sound of Music put me off. Rolfe was an enthusiastic Nazi. As the Nazi’s role for women was producing babies, it just brought back to mind that the SOTUS feels the way about women.
