I kinda thought it was something like that when I saw all the ‘V’ songs.

I guess I was clueless, and enjoyed seeing Perry Como and Frankie Avalon!

Um… sorry….

Teen idols of the early sixties? Guy singers born in the early 40’s?

Are they all..um… charming? Maybe in 1962.

….

One group of brothers and friend(s) from Southern California…

An amazing song… especially to kids in Wisconsin, to whom surfing as as alien as those complex vocals.

They look kind of cynical in that video… almost like they’re mocking themselves.

Then two Italian kids from Philly… both with Americanized names… who made it big on American Bandstand around the same time…

Why we oohed over Frankie Avalon I’m not sure.

I’ve always thought that Bobby Rydell was trying to channel another Bobby… Bobby Darrin…. when he sang “Volare.”

A change from his teen rocker image…. but I guess it was very successful.

I don’t think he did it… and I didn’t notice it then, but the lyrics had been changed from the Italian ones.

The song was a big hit before that when I was a kid on an air force base in Libya … where Italian was still widely spoken.

I was told it was about flying.

It’s STILL an ear worm.

….

“Nel Blu, Dipinto di Blu” … Blue, Painted in blue.

That’s why when I drove an old tan Plymouth Volare for years, I named it “Blue.” Nobody got it.

I always thought somebody should name an old blue Pinto “Volare.” Then again, nobody should still be driving a Pinto.

….

The original lyrics are weird:

Our son, about 2 at the time, named the red Acura “Blue.”

And our green Villager became Greenfield. https://www.thehenryford.org/visit/greenfield-village/

It’s nice to see that Cleo sits like a lady.

Sometimes what you get in the waiting room is not your top choice. It is probably also 3 or 4 years old.

Don’t ask my 7th grade Home Ec teacher!

Cleo is sitting like a human…. but she’s slumped to one side, with her legs crossed at the knees.

We were sternly lectured about that.

A lady never slumps… she sits so up so straight, with her weight centered over her hips, that her back doesn’t even touch the chair!

She almost never crosses her legs… if she must, she crosses them at the ankles, and pulls her feet back towards the chair.

Worse, as the teacher walked around the room, slumped shoulders and crossed knees might get a small slap with her ruler.

She said we’d thank her one day.

Honestly, I haven’t felt that desire…. though for pictures, I sometimes do try to remember that ankle-crossing bit.

Happy, I don’t know if you read this comic, but I thought of you when I saw it.

Dang, nighthawks, you made me laugh out loud again with Cleo’s reading material. I know ~ you have to take what you can get at the doctor’s office. Clara is hoping that guy has a tight hold on that lid.

Note to Cleo: Expect a request from Clara to switch seats.

How do we know he doesn’t have a kitten in the basket? Or even a puppy?

Maybe we shouldn’t jump to conclusions based on a person’s appearance.

Okay… or maybe he wears that outfit just so we will..

In any case, my teen-age great-niece told my sister she took her bearded dragon to a vet.

And I once took a dog to an office where a small sign on the reception desk announced that the reptile and bird vet was there two days a week.

I was going to make a little joke about whether some of the birds arrived inside the reptiles…

but one hard lesson I’ve sometimes forgotten, with uncomfortable results, is that you have to know your audience.

I stopped myself just in time.

My daughter takes her rats(!) to the vet.

Before them it was sugar gliders. One scratched its cornea and she needed antibiotic ointment in her eye twice a day for ten days. Formerly an ophthalmic tech, I got the job of administering the meds while daughter held the glider tight. Only got bit twice! Those things have retractable gums – you wouldn’t believe how long their teeth really are.

I never heard of a Sugar Glider before, so I had to look it up. Cute little guys.

Some people will set up a whole room for their sugar gliders to roam free. My daughter didn’t. Had a huge cage though.

She got them when a friend asked her to pet sit while she went to Germany for a skating competition. Then the friend didn’t want them back. They were in pretty crappy shape as they weren’t being fed right and were being kept in a tiny cage. Daughter researched their dietary needs and made custom food for them – lots of fruits and veggies with some grains. Within a couple months they had sleek and glossy coats and were much happier.

Had to give them up when she started dating a Canadian and was spending lots of time there.

They live 14-15 years in captivity.

Maybe it’s “Let’s Go to the Vet” Day. Or, “What is the Strange Animal in the Basket” Day.

And, why is Cleo there? Is she sick?
