For “Footloose”, the human body can only move in so many ways. The fascination is how each choreographer / director / music director / costumer / whatever can come up with some great ways to use these movements to create new and enjoyable dance routines that we enjoy watching over and over again to enhance a story, or just as entertainment on their own. But he was actually a trained song-and-dance man, and finally got to show it in the film Arfside is referencing.
He played a lot of gangsters on the way to the Oscar he won for playing George M Cohan in “Yankee Doodle Dandy”….
