A recent fossil discovery in Mongolia shows an early dinosaur that was partially mummified before being fossilized. It shows that they had a voice box, and that it’ was remarkably similar to a birds.
Dinosaurs could sing.
Aw, c’mon, it’s OK to thumbs down on one of these because of the theme, isn’t it? Thanks for posting it Nighthawks. Love the socks not darned and the patch in the sleepy kid’s clothes.
What I love most is that all that horrifying lack of maternal care… the worn out clothes, untrimmed lamp wick, desperately hungry family…
happened because Mama wasn’t there to do her wifely duties.
She’d rather parade with suffragettes than cook or sew or clean…. and she was gone for a whole hour!
Why… it might even have been minutes more!
She even admits it, in the note pinned to the wall: “Back in an hour or so”.
That’s clearly enough time for her husband and children to starve and all their socks to wear out.
Never mind that Papa stops for an hour every night after work to have a beer with his friends. After all, starving children aren’t his responsibility.
I posted this BECAUSE it was outrageous…..BECAUSE it needed to be said what it was like a hundred years ago—it’s not because I’m endorsing the concept!
Didn’t work for me… But my eyes go out of focus on less than 30 seconds, and it becomes two only slightly overlapping images.
Its functioning probably has to do with your eyes switching to complementary colors… the way you see a red patch after staring at green. These light colored patches are probably placed to cancel each other somehow when they switch.
When my image splits in two, the colors are no longer where they’re expected to be, in proper juxtaposition, ruining the effect.
If this doesn’t make sense… I’m really sleepy.
I’ll reread it tomorrow.
From yesterday.
Re: “The Cremation of Sam McGee” by Robert Service
That’s one of my two favourite poems by him. The other is “The Shooting of Dan McGrew.
I’ve posted Tundra’s version of that poem below.
Enjoy! !
.
She has very striking pattern. I like it. 🙂

I’m guessing “tweet tweet”, not “Ride of the Valkyries”?
do I smell napalm this morning?
Burnt toast?
well, I surely don’t enjoy the smell of napalm in the morning….it doesn’t even smell like victory
We used to know a lovely Korean woman with a melted face.
Napalm was tested in the Korean war.
Oops…. I never saw it, so I didn’t think of that one, though I have seen clips.
I guess I should have picked something else!
Visualize T-Rex, sining like a canary.
“I tawt I taw a Twicewatops…”

No!

Especoly if the wife is sitting next to you when you do.

And you’ve posted this picture only a few weeks ago.
ok, how about this one?
…well, she’s cute.
https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/16.0.1/svg/1f92e.svg
you mean…..gasp!…..I made a mistake?
No.
Unfortunately isms are still way too common.
Damn right!
LOL…. er… I hope!
Yes, and thank you. Be sure that my thumb down is for the concept, not for you 🙂
Well of course I knew that!
It doesn’t mean I wouldn’t mock the poster…
In fact this is its second appearance, and I think I said similar the first time.
And it’s not really a mistake… Just a re-posting.

Hey, she shouldn’t have that baleful expression.
She’s lucky, isn’t she?
She works in a fine house… and she gets 60 cents a week.
Her shoes and her clothes are in good condition… yes, that’s a bite out of her salary, but she’d be fired if she looked too shabby.
Meanwhile it neans she can walk down the street with pride, right?
Moments before throwing the wet rug at the photographer.
But unfortunately that photo never was…

My bull hummingbird works really hard at protecting “his” feeders from interlopers
I didn’t know hummingbirds came in bull.
Does he have cow hummingbirds to protect?
And when the eggs hatch… will the nestlings be calf hummingbirds?
I guess you’re a hummingbird rancher… Yee haw! I mean… tweet….?
my favorite time of the year is the running of the bullhummings

They make it look almost effortless. Tain’t so, Magee.
Ballerinas are athletes.
Dancers are athletes.
the darker side of ballet
Eww, but it had to be shown.
I once dated a ballerina — her feet were not her mot attractive assets…

It must run on Flubber, or something like it.
Nice of them to bring Spot along for the ride.
But I hope it doesn’t get hot in the parked spaceship.
Full time climate control.
After all, fifties flying cars were supposed to be atomic powered!
It does ! ! !
Cool
Not from me.
Kinda. It’s weird. It looks like it turns into a shadow, with no color.

I found that if I blinked more often, then the vanishing effect accellerated.
Blinking fast enough makes most pictures fade…. cos you’re only seeing them a certain percentage of the time. 😁

There used to be a sail called the Moonraker — I guess this is one of them…
also an Ian Fleming novel

and a horrible (Roger Moore as 007) movie within which the only thing it was close to the book was the title
find the parrot

I keep seeing worms…
Isn’t that more like a Peach-faced Lovebird? Happy?
Yup!
Yeah, that works.
I was thinking it looks like a caique, which is a parrot… But the colors are reversed.
But the fruit looks like a caique.
Easy. Mangoes make great smoothies!
I don’t much care for bird smoothies 😢
well, the little bones keep clogging up the straw
She shows up immediately.
Easy.
I know. it’s actually ridiculously easy —
but it’s not tedious
I’ll take the win.
Okay okay… Sorry😁
nah, don’t be. if those ‘find the one difference in multiple images‘ puzzles CAN be tedious–I was pulling your leg a little’
sorry!
It’s fine… don’t take me seriously either.
The default for my tongue is in my cheek.
That’s why I put 😁 in it

“He seems nice…”
what? nobody is going to identify Julie Adams in this image?….and the girl? 😉
Okay okay…. So I fell asleep on the job again.
Hope it’s not too late.
But…. um…. and the girl?
Not sure why I’m using a spoiler box after Nighthawks already spilled most of the beans… But ..
Ben played the Gill Man (as they called him) on land; Ricou Browning played him underwater.
Obviously not a scene from the movie.
.
What are we looking at?
An iris?
It looks like the water droplet is the focus.
I dew believe you’re right. 🙂
Okay…. I thought there was something about that black and orange edge… Like I was supposed to see a hidden snake or something.
Too many puzzles lately? 😀
Never too many…. but yeah, I may get a little confused.
Then again, I’m probably always a little confused anyway.
.
Isn’t Jimmy a bit old to be Fred’s son?
They used a lot of makeup.
Yep.
Are Stanley Livingston and Don Grady…
In sure you know that Jimmy Stewart wasn’t a regular ….he was a guest star that week.

Love that one too!
I think you weren’t here when that one was posted only a few days ago.
I’m waiting for him to do The Face on the Barroom Floor.
How about The Ballad Of The Ice-Worm Cocktail?
Anyone remember this one?

What have I done…
I say that every day
Peacefully cruising across the lake on top… paddling like crazy underneath.
17-Year-Old Bianca Passarge From Hamburg dances on wine bottles in a cat costume, 1958.

Yikes!

Cleo crowd-surfing!
This is one of Stel’s really early ones, when she was still signing them StelBel, and before they were almost all posters for movies or events.
I’ve always liked it.
ah, Stel………

The U.L.R. is supposed to be a smiley.
Why I can’t post them any more is beyond my knowledge, and it’s annoying.
🤔
From the same source.
I went there in 1959…. wide-eyed with amazement.
Especially since we’d just returned to the states from almost 4 years in Libya, where a fuzzy image from USAF TV was what passed for high tech.
Cleo is extra cute today
