I have answers to 15, but three of them are definitely open to correction by sharper minds. Number 10 is such a poor clue in my opinion that it should never have been put in.

My answers, guesses, and abstention.
 1) I understand
 2) Man overboard
 3)Undercover agent
 4) Long underwear
5)Easy on the eyes (unless you pronounce it zed)
 6) giddy up??? (g i up – if it is it’s a stretch)
 7) Keeping his eyes on nothing??? (as 6)
 8) Going around in circles
 9) High chair (I’m reasonably certain, but I don’t like the clue)
10) Something to do with a tire I think –but what?
11) Head downtown??? (complete guess from a stretched imagination)
12) Cross roads
13) Sick in bed
14) Technically a mixed up baby goat
15) Running around the block
16) Scrambled eggs

I feel asleep last night, before I could post my solution…

I was about to just now but I checked yours and most are the same.

My differences from yours and notes

6) I didn’t know, but I hadn’t seen your post of the original, which is obviously “I overate“. Sorry, giddy-up doesn’t work at all, imho… Not that anyone could have been right anyway, with the wrong clue.

7) circles under his eyes… Bad clue cos they look like Os or zeros, but I figured they had to be circles.

9) I agree about both answer and remark.

10) flat tire … I think. Another bad clue.

11) downtown …. That’s all you need.

14) mixed up kid… possibly “crazy mixed up kid” which was more of an expression.

15) same but I was annoyed by the missing “n”. People who make word puzzles should at least check their spelling!

My guesses – Thank you for that picture, Alexikakos!

1 I understand
2 man overboard
3 undercover agent
4 long underwear
5 easy on the eyes
6 I overate
7 circles under his eyes
8 going around in circle
9 big chair
10 flat tire
11 upside town
12 cross(ing) roads
13 sick in bed
14 messed-up kid
15 running around the block
16 four scrambled eggs

How did you manage to get #6 and thank Alexikakos for the picture 10 hours ago, when he only posted it 5 hours ago?

I must have missed something.

just noticed…
And sorry “upside town” doesn’t mean anything in English. There’s “uptown” and “upside down.”

But this is “downtown.”

No fault to nighthawks, but as I was looking for the answers (found them too) I came across what is probably the original version of this rebus set…

…HERE.

There are two glitches number one has the solution listed in the attachment below showing what I believe is the original
and number 14 in the answer key changes the clue (it’s the bottom right small version and it’s a hover link), but as the answer obviously refers to the one we want, that’s all it is; a glitch.
It definitely makes things more solvable (note that six is ” i ” and ” 8 ” not ” i ” and ” g “).

I do like this version better, thanks… But I’m confused.

You posted it as both a link and an image… But I don’t see a “small version” anywhere, or a link to the.answers.

Oh! Never mind… I found it. Thanks.

It wasn’t a hover clue on my tablet but an alternate image to choose, and I hadn’t realized that you meant the linked image was “small.”

I obviously need some coffee.

Too bad I gave it up. It’s killing me!

For fans of Johnny Cash, this will no doubt be a bit of a downer.
This is the last song he ever recorded.
It is a cover of “Nine Inch Nails” Trent Reznor’s “Hurt”
He died within months of this being finished.
It is sad, but he didn’t push his voice and sang the song well.
Trent Reznor was not going to give up the rights until he actually heard the recording and knew the song wasn’t his anymore.

On the contrary, Alexi. True, a bit sad, perhaps, but oh, so powerful, with gripping visuals accompanying. Makes one appreciate the “older guys”. JC was in-and-out-of the modern music era, but this one singular video illustrates his musical abilities and musical depth.
If true, Trent Reznor was very wise to realize that this song — “Hurt” — will probably now never be his own.
Thanks for posting.

“Confound it Cleo” it has been a while since we heard those words. Cleo, you will either destroy the doggy treats inside, or send them into the yard of the EWC.

Half the people in this forum, if not more, are at least 70… some a little or a lot more.

I’m sure we can all “still” open a piñata.

I don’t doubt that you can – but do you? 😉
I’ll turn 60 this year, our very good friend in Upper Franconia will turn 90 – and no piñata would stand the ghost of a chance against her bag and/or umbrella or just her elbows. And she’s petite!

The piñata looks very startled.

“Hey! They told me in piñata training I’d be making this sacrifice for some cute little kids with sticks.

Nobody said a word about a greedy dog with a $&#@ bazooka!!”

I’d like to take this opportunity to apologize to all who were offended by the the John Oliver/Octopus video that I posted yesterday. I had hoped that the “F” bombs in that video could have been overlooked since, to me, the general subject was not only humorous, but informative.

I see now that I was very much mistaken. Not everybody shares my sense of humor, and many are offended by that kind of language…..and, I do respect that. I am so sorry for showing such poor judgement.

I’m actually glad that this happened! (Hold on! I’m trying to put a positive spin on this!) Now, all of us knows that certain boundaries shouldn’t be crossed in a public forum, and it’s always good to know exactly what those boundaries are!

Personally I was fine with it, though I will admit I found it gratuitous after a bit. But I understand the concern too. This is (that is the site) in the USA and it is not an adults-only site. I hope there are folks who visit and read but do not comment. And they could be kids.
Anyway, it was an interesting piece about a fascinating creature and he found the humor in it too.
I was thinking of asking about the idea of adding a “language warning” similar to a “spoiler alert,” but the same kid caveat still applies. And a language warning might even attract the little buggers.

Well, I love John Oliver videos…. I’m not offended whatsoever, as you know, because we exchange them by email.

But I do respect other people’s boundaries, so I thought a spoiler tag or even just a warning on them might do….

But Liverlips is right.. that might just attract kids instead of keeping them away.

I hate to think we can’t post any of them… and some are much milder than others.

But maybe this just isn’t the venue for them.

Maybe we need an opt-in email group…
Then again I got sick of too many emails of cute pictures.

We have to figure something out… But meanwhile, don’t worry.

You didn’t do anything horrible.

For some reason fart and even poop jokes are much more socially acceptable in the US… as long as you don’t use the “sh..” word… than anything related to sex.

Pee jokes have become more acceptable in recent decades. Cleo and Ballard Street have both featured peeing on things. Never 20 or maybe 30 years ago. And you still can’t say “p**s”.

You also can say boobs but not “T**s”. Or the word for a female dog.

None of that was acceptable when I was a kid and still isn’t in a lot of households, though the same people will often still laugh at an actual fart, or have no problem with talking about pregnancy but will never mention “the act.”

Most people in the U.S. these days will accept a degree of blasphemy and sacrilegious humor… Profanity, ie “swear words” are used in family television programs…. Some have a problem with that too.

So called subscription TV has much looser rules … And movie ratings mean anything goes, if children aren’t allowed.

That has helped the usage of that sort of content grow on broadcast TV and in other media, as the median age of users goes down.

England has looser rules than the US. And I think it’s more so in most of Europe, where they consider the US backward and puritanical.

I do know all that. My question about the fart-jokes was purely rhetorical.
And I have been watching John Oliver in “Last Week Tonight” several years by now. That’s why I was overjoyed that StelBel has posted this brand-new net video I’ve just discovered a day earlier myself.
Regarding the musical – I love it when a “normal” show breaks out in singing and dancing. #buffy #lucifer
