Wow… today is the 57th anniversary of that historic pee!

Hopefully it’s dried up by now and no longer a biohazard.
Dogs. What can you say.

I have to hand it to this brave astronaut, though.

His solo adventure on A-Puppo 11 was somewhat overshadowed by humans landing just two hours later… especially since they avoided his piddled-on landing spot, so he wasn’t in their photos.

His human counterpart, Neil Armstrong, had another astronaut with him on the moon, and a third maintaining control in orbit.

But our brave basset did his deed alone.
It wasn’t really planned that way… but no one wanted to ride in his capsule. I mean, his name is Smellstrong for a reason.

Is it a bridge table?

I’m trying not to fret…
But I can’t find my notes, and there isn’t any staff around.

Its form ought to be in tune with its function… but I don’t want to stick my neck out, guessing.

Jacaranda trees in bloom, along McDougall Street, in Milson Park, Kirribilli, a.suburb of Sydney, Australia, that’s famous for them.

Tourists from all over Australia, Southeast Asia, and points between, come to Sydney for Jacaranda season.

BTW, they also grow in the southern United States, including Florida, Texas, and Southern California, but they can’t handle freezing temps.

In the air, yes. They soar gracefully for days, gliding on wind currents, without flapping their wings, except to dive for prey.

On the ground, not so much.
Look at that belly-flop landing.

They can walk, but they’re huge, with heavy wings, so they can be clumsy… And their chest muscles aren’t strong enough for a lot of flapping, as in sustained powered flight.

Very young Adams Express bicycle messengers, Norfolk, Virginia, 1911… working full time instead of going to elementary school.

Another from famous muckraking photographer Lewis Hine, who exposed so much about conditions for child laborers in the US, in that era.

When they say this gun “shoots cookies,” they mean it literally.

I think it’s a makeup kit. The “bullet is lipstick. The “cookie” is a pad and the red stuff is rouge.

It’s from the 1920s … a silver-plated novelty makeup case by Weidlich Brothers Manufacturing Company.

Folded, it resembled a small pistol, but it opened out into compartments for face powder, rouge, and tiny lipsticks shaped like bullets

They were popular with flappers, who loved the novelty, and carried them, often tucked into in a garter or the top of a stocking, but I read that some really thought they were also a crime deterrent.

Hopefully, they didn’t need to test that theory. It’s so dangerous to make an armed criminal think you have a gun, when you don’t.

Very long faced, long eared pigs, at that.

Then again, a lot of pigs in old fairly tale illustrations have that look.

I didn’t find a date for when this carousel was built… but I’ll try to look again tomorrow.

I did look, but didn’t find the date for the carousel’s manufacture.

The carving and painting was done by hand, and it has electric lights, which may or may not be original.

I did find alternate dates given for the photo… 1901 and 1905.

Sometimes when you search you find questions instead of answers.

Taken at Luna Park, in Paris, in 1910.

A commenter on one of the Facebook pages where I found it said it was still there when she was in Paris, and her daughter rode it, in the late 1980s.
