I thought she was an old female…

In a woman’s soft hat, shawl collared coat, and necklace.

The Hotel Netherland, 59th street and 5th Avenue in Manhattan.

Opened in 1892, at 17 stories, said to be the tallest hotel in the world…. demolished in 1927..

Very fancy in its day.
Its dining room was the luxury Louis Sherry restaurant

Eventually replaced by the Sherry Netherland Hotel.

….

A menu from the restaurant in 1917….

Those prices are in cents!

But 35¢ for a piece of pie was outrageous in 1905…

The $5 for a pheasant was a week’s wages for a dime store clerk.

Yet some rich people lived in the hotel and ate every meal there…. and this is the lunch menu.

I suspect a similar restaurant now in NYC would have those same prices…but as dollars!

I read someplace that getting that (otherwise very well trained stunt horse) horse to cross its legs was a production in and of itself.

Ok, I thought I found her but the resolution is so terrible I wasn’t sure.

So I googled and somehow found the puzzle at a much better resolution, so I think I’m right…

Thank you for the better picture. I found it in yours fairly fast. I then looked at the original and I don’t think I would have succeeded.

The flamingo thinks he may have finally found his mate…

They’re supposed to be monogamous birds, but the females he’s been dating seem flighty.

Here’s one who doesn’t fly away, play silly games, or steal his fish.

His friends called her an old stick-in-the-mud, behind his back…
but to his eyes, she has her feet firmly (and admirably) planted on the ground.

….

As for the peacock, he, too, has been seeking Ms. Right.

He’s rather shallow. He loves his own flamboyant tail, and wants a mate to complement his glamorous looks.

But peahens are notoriously drab… I mean, not compared to female wrens, or even robins … but they certainly can’t keep up with him.

This captivating creature who stands before him, colorful tail on display, doesn’t act like a rival, so she must be a hen.

The hen of his technicolor dreams.

we have a flamingo with solar lights in our giant petunia pot. she has flowers covering the solar lights on her body. every day, like clockwork, a humming bird flies around her body to feed on her flowers!…..

they’re metal!

For a couple of years in the late 80s, I wore glasses with fashionably huge, clear, red plastic frames.

(If you’re old enough, think Sally Jessie Raphael.)

The lenses themselves were tinted, blueish grey on top, rose on the bottom, clear in the middle. It looked a bit like wearing eye shadow and blush.

…..

One day I was coming out my front door, and a hummingbird flew straight at my right eye, bumping his tiny beak right in the middle of a lens.

We were both startled.

Twice more, the same or maybe a different hummer flew at my glasses when I was outside.

I realised that the birds must have thought they were big red flowers, especially since I have a Chinese hibiscus (Rose of Sharon) tree right there, with rose and purple blooms, and back then, also a little hummingbird feeder.

I started taking off my glasses on my small patio, when I could.

It’s scary to have a pointy bird, no matter how tiny, heading for your eye!
