Couldn’t he have got a better fitting pair of underpants?

I guess not. Speedos had yet to be invented.

That’s why he wears them on top of his tights.

I think I’d rather keep them hidden! (At least they don’t have little hearts on them…)

Yes, but I was thinking they’re too big.

The tights underneath help them to not fall down.

Underpants slipping down to your knees inside your tights is a real pain… especially in flight.

I was planning to say not a recognizable subject, but probably a known artist…

But when I searched the image to try to find its creator, I found it in various collections of illustrations, completely uncredited.

Among the results, though, were two sites that say it is AI generated!

I don’t want to believe that… but maybe it’s true!

This is by Murray Smoker, whose bio I saw says he used to only use his skills to illustrate textbooks but now sells his art.

When I first saw it I thought there was an electric outlet drawn in the lower right corner.

I’ve seen this before. I thought it was probably here, but perhaps not. Scary indeed. I assume that particular shark was never again permitted to be in that particular tank.

It all turned out well, but it would have been terrifying at the time I bet (the description is by Google Translate).

Flight from Naxos to Athens, the plane’s engine catches fire while taxiing for takeoff – The video – Panic among the passengers, all tourists. Flight OA 017 operated
by Olympic Air, immediately after takeoff, had to return due to a problem with the engine at departure

The episode occurred on June 7, 2025 on an ATR 72-600 of Olympic Air, registered SX-OBP, during flight OA 017 from Naxos to Athens with 42 passengers and
4 crew members, while he was exiting the runway of Naxos, the pilot interrupted the climb after the right engine emitted a loud bang with backfire. The plane returned
to the island of Naxos for a safe landing about 25 minutes after departure. Passengers reported that there was a dull noise coming from the right engine emitting
flames. The passengers, all tourists, disembarked safely, although visibly in shock. Firefighters rushed to the scene as a precaution. Aegean Airlines, the parent
company of Olympic Air, notes Giovanni D’Agata, president of the “Sportello dei Diritti”, confirmed that a replacement plane was sent to transport the passengers
to their destination.

That’s why all jet engines in the military and civilian aircraft, have robust fire suppression systems. You can’t call the fire department at 30k feet.

A patient buying cigarettes from his hospital bed, 1950’s.

That would never happen these days!! They’d be delivered by Amazon…..

I gave it a like in appreciation of its historical perspective…. that doesn’t make it a good idea!

I had knee surgery at 15 in Great Lakes Naval hospital (courtesy of my father’s being in the Air Force) years later than this picture, but so called Grey Ladies (hospital volunteers) were still bringing cigarettes and candy around.

Most of the patients were young sailors, but there were plenty of other servicemen, plus dependent spouses and kids, too. I was too old for the children’s ward, so I was in the women’s surgical ward.

I remember there was a large-ish hand scrawled cardboard sign taped to the foot of my bed that said “NO CIGARETTES.” My father took a picture of it cos he thought it was funny.

Of all the things to worry about and monitor in the hospital…

I agree it’s not a good idea, but it’s a snapshot of a different time, which is why I posted it. The first time I had a stay in hospital (1983) for an appendectomy, there was no smoking on the wards, but patients would go outside and smoke. The last time I was in hospital (2018) for a cardiac issue, there was no smoking allowed on the hospital grounds at all.

The hospitals here have designated smoking areas outside of the building, and usually a certain distance from the doors.

Back in the 50s Mom was a candy striper at a hospital in (I think) Burbank. That’s where she met Dad. (She was MUCH prettier than the ones in this picture.)

Yeah… Candy stripers are usually teen-agers, or not much older, volunteering under the auspices of a high school or college undergraduate program.

Gray ladies, as in this picture, are adult volunteers, and in practice, are often stay at home wives. Many are middle aged or retired women, whose children have grown.

So when it comes to beauty, you can do the math.

Hey everyone, be sure to turn out for your local “No Kings” rally on Saturday (after doing Clio’s find-the-differences of course). http://www.nokings.org shows locations and times.
