Yes… Easy to picture Italy as way bigger than California.
After all, it’s one of the biggest countries in Europe, with different regions having their own climates, terrain, pronunciations, culture, to a degree, and cooking styles.
But it’s only about 3/4 the land area of California.
…
Nobody expects Venice to be just like Rome.
But here in California we get weird looks if we say there’s any cultural difference between Los Angeles and San Francisco, about twice the distance.
We barely acknowledge that Eureka, in the north, doesn’t look much like San Diego, over 750 miles away, in the south.
And not only do most of us speak English, and newcomers usually learn it as soon as possible, we’re surprised if there’s any accent in the whole country we have any trouble understanding.
A great moment captured. That car, which could have totally taken out that sign, instead decided to spare the sign and avoided hitting it. The sign is merely being appropriately grateful, acknowledging the car’s magnanimity.
The sign is even more grateful considering that it looks like it hasn’t been in position long judging by the turned over soil at the base of the uprights.
An old picture, but quite impressive when you realise that the speed limit it appears to have left is 30mph, and it’s on the verge on the wrong side of the road (We drive on the left here). Slightly less impressive though when the driver is probably a youngster, and the road is wet and greasy 😉
yes, that’s it. Even though those white dots are distracting, , It would not be a complicated thing to take those dots out, but it doesn’t take that much away from a really good painting and besides, I’m basically old and lazy
I’d just like to mention that the 14th of June happens to be our good friend Perkycat’s birthday.
Normally, we’d be starting a party right now to celebrate…
But as most of you know, the past month or two have been anything but normal for Perky.
I wrote to her to say we’d have a party for her whenever she’s ready… but for right now, she hasn’t replied and she’s probably not even reading these comments.
…
Just in case you are peeking in, Perkycat…
I wish you the best possible birthday at this difficult time.
I hope your husband is doing better and better, and that you have victories to celebrate in his recovery…
and that you’re taking care of yourself, and staying well.
My biggest wish for you, Perkycat, is that your husband continues to improve and that you had a nice, quiet birthday with him and your family.
We all miss you so much and look forward to your return once your husband is well again and you return to a normal life (but, no rush! Take it slow and easy!).
“He is doing better. He’s in a rehabilitation hospital and will be there at least 3weeks before coming home.
I’m spending most of my time there ~ helping him and learning how to help him when he comes home”
Yay!
…
For those of you who didn’t understand, I tried to keep this low key on purpose.
It had nothing to do with a wake!
In an email, I suggested no pictures… for one thing, to save them, and the energy, for the real party…
And also, because I’d had no news, I didn’t know whether, for any reason, Perky might find it upsetting that we’re celebrating at a difficult time for her…
or even just because she’s stressed or on edge, and not up to responding right now.
I guess you could say I’m too sensitive about it, but I’ve been in that situation, and only know how I’d feel.
…
I’m so glad the news is good…
But she says she’s basically ignoring the comics, probably at least till he comes home,
so she may not see this page till some time later anyway.
.
kermit t. frog!
I love those crazy eyes!
Those islanders would prefer to be independent anyway.

Even smaller without those (cough) tiny islands…
our geography lesson for the day.
You’re welcome.

I’m curious, MC.
Are you in England? And how can you tell it’s a 30mph zone?
Around here, it would probably be 45 to 65mph, depending on whether it’s a small country road, a rural highway, or a divided highway…
Can’t tell from the picture.
Snd is that an outdated road sign?
The more I look at it, the more I think it this photo might be staged.
MCTS points out the fresh dirt… I thought it was just dry grass, but now I think he’s right.
The licence plate is covered, probably on the photo, not the car, to protect someone’s identity.
And it might be a old road sign with some of the legend removed… maybe a speed limit, or whatever belongs in the circle.
Somebody may have planted it near the car, just to make a funny picture.
..
Peregrine Heathcote again?
I can’t help wondering about those white dots.
I doubt Mr. Heathcote put them in.
The white dots are probably a copyright protection from a hosting website. Similar to how Shutterstock puts a watermark over their sample images.

Hey! Don’t dare to disrespect one of my favorite cartoonists!
🙂
Funny placement… I usually expect copyright protection or watermarks to be more obvious.
NOSE!
I see two! 🙂
LOL, looks like this is nose-art.

Basmeeret is famed for his extraordinary use of color.
this site is full of noses today!
such a sweet face!
I loe the deep dark brown of those eyes. 🙂
Claude, you’re lucky it’s not the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Hi Perkycat,
Do something special for yourself on your birthday this year. Something just for you. Lady’s choice.
Thinking of you, Perkycat.
here here
Perkycat, hopefully this will at least bring a smile to your face:

love to you and yours,

Good news!
I just heard from Perkycat!
She said about her husband:
“He is doing better. He’s in a rehabilitation hospital and will be there at least 3weeks before coming home.
I’m spending most of my time there ~ helping
him and learning how to help him when he comes home”
Yay!

Perkycat,
Tell that guy to hurry up and get well, so all of us (including him) can really enjoy the umpteenth anniversary of your 29th birthday!
Happy Birthday PerkyCat. I hope your husband is doing well. We miss you and look forward to your return to regular posting.
Dennis
All the best to you and your husband, PerkyCat!
It’s my half-birthday today, so maybe the birthday-fairy will grant that wish. Or else.. 😉
While Perkycat probably won’t be here for her birthday party due to her current family health issues, I can offer up an alternative.
Today is my cat Ivy’s Birthday, she’s seven today 🙂
Ours will turn 16 at the end of this month.
Still looks and acts (mostly; much less anxiety) the same as 15 years ago when she adopted us.
Hi Perky Cat. Wishing you the best birthday possible under the circumstances. And for many, many, many happier ones in the future.
Dorothea
strawberry shortcake
Happy birthday Perky Cat, I wish for you that the year ahead gets better.
OK – Sorry, guys; but this looks more like a wake than a birthday so far.
Celebrate life!
happy un-birthday, perky cat.when things get back to normal, we’ll do a grand party for you. in the meantime hugs to you both!
NOSE!
and a purplie one to boot …
Just an FYI: Happy(3) posted on BS for today (June 14, 2023) being unable to post on C & C for unknown reasons. Happy extends best wishes to all.
I’m baaack! 😀
Lost my laptop last night. I found it this morning.
I tried to post with my phone but it didn’t work so well.
Yay!
You have my best wishes Perkycat.
