Wow this human rip-off poster looks so comic compared to the near photo quality of the original Hal Wallleash production

Basset movie star John Whine, known for his cowboy-hatted, usually “good guy” roles in many, many a western.

His friends and family often called him by his original puppy name, “Duke”.

I’m a big Dino Barkin’ fan. To me it’s Dino who makes this movie great.

The theme music seems to have the same orchestration as “Bonanza.”

Especially when it looks like an actual guess

I hope I haven’t posted this one before. There are so many ways it could be interpreted:

  1. Is this the guy’s first day on the trail drive? Good way to break in a tenderfoot!
  2. Was that the only critter in the stew?
  3. Were the other guys in on the gag?
  4. Were this guy and the cook partners in the gag?
  5. Did that guy tick off the cook?
  6. Did they ALL tick off the cook? Hey, you NEVER tick off the cook!

Anyone want to try some more interpretations?

Where have you been? Everything OK?

“Eggbeater” is the name of the sous-chef.
It’s their own fault they never noticed there aren’t any chicken(s) around.
Or cattle.

“Sous Chef”. Good one!
I drop by from time to time, especially when it’s time to celebrate a birthday, or to check on other readers. Off for a few days camping with the kids and grandkids. Lots of fun (if I survive 😉 Maybe the hardest part is getting my wife packed. {^¿^}

Another great poster from StelBel.

Looks like a little help from Nighthawks, as well.

Nice work, you guys.

It’s this the first John Whine movie we’ve had a poster for?

One of fairly few I’ve never seen.

I hear the revival will be at the BassetplexII this coming week.

Can you get us any comps, Stel? Nighthawks? We can all go together…. and I’ll buy your kibblecorn!

You guys know I love researching films… especially the back stories, intrigues, cast relationships, etc.

Call it gossip if you like… I think of it as historical.. um… scholarship.

But I found little about this one.

The only tidbit I dug up was that relatively unknown Mikey Anderhound was brought in to replace originally hired, much more famous teen pup Tommy Kirkhound, who was arrested for catnip possession at a party…. much more scandalous then.

Today it’s legal in many states, and young stars often quite openly use it.

….

The thing I did find baffling is that, despite the similar name, and the pictures, both here and in Hollywood at the time of the original publicity, this film appears to have nothing to do with Katie Olderdog.

It seems to be very loosely based on the true story of another family altogether… The four Margrowl brothers had, not the same, but a somewhat similar tale, that unfolded in Texas around the same time.

Maybe “The Sons of Martha Margrowl” just didn’t seem to have the right ring to it.

Meanwhile, the real Katie Olderdog, the poor, swindled, sainted mother, whose misfortunes the brothers in this movie sought to revenge or at least rectify….

was by turns a prostitute, madam, saloon owner, a gunslinger in her own right, and mistress and possibly legal mate to Dog Holidog, famed dentist turned gambler and gunman of the Old West.

I meant to say this earlier, but my brain keeps falling asleep.

I actually posted it already, early Wednesday evening, right before today’s strip came out…

but I don’t think many of you saw it.

I heard from Perkycat!

The news is good… Here’s part of her message to me:

“He is doing better. He’s in a rehabilitation hospital and will be there at least 3 weeks before coming home.

I’m spending most of my time there ~ helping
him and learning how to help him when he comes home.”

….

She said, also, that she hadn’t been able to pay any attention to the comics recently… and may not till her husband comes home.

So… she may or may not see yesterday’s greetings soon, but I’m sure she will eventually, and appreciates that people are thinking about her.

Perky, if you ever see this, as I already wrote to you, I’m so glad for the news… Thanks.
