It’s bee-oo-tiful in both places, thanks!

Poor Cinderbasset… her stepfamily treated her like a dog!

But at last, she found her Prince Charming… I hope he didn’t want her to wear glass slippers every day.

But the tale says they lived happily ever after, so presumably he didn’t care if she wore something more comfy.

It’s a girl, my lord, in a flatbed Ford, slowing down to take a look at me.

Some of the point of this ad is lost on us today, and when we do figure it.out, we see it as clever humor.

Maybe they did mean to be a bit witty… But mostly it was braggadocio…

This is an ad for the 1957 Plymouth Belvedere… saying it’s 3 years ahead of its time.

But they couldn’t predict that by 1960, tailfins and wings would have actually disappeared, making 1957 cars look dated.

The Discworld novels include the character “Bloody Stupid Johnson” who is pathologically unable to measure things correctly…

I think I hired him once to fix something….

Then another guy to un-fix it, and redo it.

I’m thinking that there are stairs heading down on the other side of that door.

I think you’re right.

That lower area creates a landing, if there wasn’t room for one on the other side…. Level with the first step, it keeps you from having to step down immediately from the doorway, which can cause a fall.

If there are no steps, it would be strange for the room on the other side to be lower.

London slum. Photo from The Evening News, in 1925.

These are the occupants of Dupont Street, Limehouse, posing outside their houses.

The original article, as reported in the caption I found, said that most have no windows, and the roofs are covered with tarpaulins to try to keep out the rain.

You gotta love how some of the cars, and even the pedestrians, just head in any direction, and occupy any part of the street they like.

It doesn’t seem that horse drawn vehicles behaved with such impunity… but people who owned motorcars were hugely proud of themselves.

Sure looks like it… why else would he switch the tools?

Then again, maybe he’s just new or inept, rather than malicious.

But you’d think the tile setter would notice that he was holding a metal hammer instead of his rubber mallet.

That could be why their truck says “Cheap Tile Inc.”:

The “Inc” stands for “Incompetent”

Yes! I realised that I’d found pictures of both, which is why I posted them on consecutive days.
