From one site: “Kummakivi (odd stone) is a large balancing rock in Ruokolahti, Finland. The 7-metre (23 ft) long boulder lies on a convex bedrock surface with a very small footprint but so firmly that it cannot be rocked with human force.

According to scientific consensus, it was likely moved into its place by shifting masses of ice 11,000 to 12,000 years ago. Where exactly it originates from is unknown. Kummakivi has been protected since 1962. A pine tree originating from the 1980s grows on top of the boulder.”

Unfortunately I forgot to write down which site… Sigh.

Another site says Kummakivi means “strange stone”, and it weighs about 500,000 pounds.

I also found out that it’s one of a whole category of geological formations that scientists call “precariously balanced rocks”— PBRs, for short.
(Scientists are not known for flights of fancy in naming things.)

Apparently, judging by this photograph, it attracts visitors from several hundred years ago.

The woman

is…
Joanne Woodward, Paul Newman’s wife of many years.

As you probably know, the men

are …
Paul Newman and Robert Wagner.

On the set of
1969’s “Winning”… the movie that piqued Newman’s interest in auto racing, which he afterward took up.

I thought maybe it was a movie… But no, it’s a cheerleader getting accidentally “sacked” in an NFL game.

I wonder how many players have been injured just trying to avoid hurting people on the sidelines?

Season 5 episode 12.
I thought I was putting in the correct links to past episodes I’ve listed but while they worked for me at the time, I went back to one and got something different.
So this time I’m posting the site’s U.R.L. and you’ll have to click through to the episode.

Step 1) Type Twilight Zone into the search box.
Step 2) Click on The Twilight Zone (1959)
Step 3) Click the “run” arrow
Step 4) You may or may not get a “verify your human” screen. Once you’re through that go to step 5.
Step 5) Wait for the countdown timer to finish and then click on the “The Twilight Zone” box at the top left.
Step 6) When you’re there, click on the season and episode boxes to get to season 5 episode 12.
Step 7) With any luck, you’re now watching the episode.

Reminds me a little of a photo I took in a grocery store several years ago to send to some friends from Renaissance Faire…
Though you do have to know what a codpiece is.

Kinda plump and cuddly looking for crabs, but Dudolf likes to make things cute. So they’re cute crabs.

My search finds that they are red sand dunes, in the Tabuk region of northern Saudi Arabia… in area called the Hidden Valley, just outside Riyadh.

That doesn’t really explain much. But wow.

That’s a car down there, and if that storm brings in lots of rain, it’s not a safe place to be. Best case, is you’re trying to drive in wet sand.

Makes me wonder how he drove there in the first place.

The sand must be more packed than it looks.

After 370 odd years, there is no more “Company of Gentlemen Adventurers s Trading into Hudson’s Bay.”
The company closed its “Northern Stores Department” years ago, and finally left the fur trade behind.
I used to work for that department.
You haven’t lived until you’ve left Hay River in a snow storm with a one way ticket on Piggly Wiggly Airlines, also known as Pray While Aloft (real name Pacific Western Airlines / despite the nicknames, it had some of the best pilots in the country / it’s gone too) toTuktoyaktuk in your hand.

It’s sad.

The Bay was the biggest department store in Victoria (BC) and a fixture for so many years.

It was where my niece and her high school friends got summer jobs, and where my sister, better paid and not a bargain hunter like me, bought all her clothes.

It seems impossible that it’s gone.

And what about the blankets?

Canadian Tire is buying the logos and brand names but whether it will continue to manufacture the blankets is unsaid.
