This is a mandrill. I know a mandrill when I see one.
I searched the image anyway, for details… And got a whole stewpot full of conflicting information.
Sometimes the Internet really is the wild West of the 21st century. Anyone can claim anything.
…
I found at least 2 photographers and two artists (painters) claiming to have created it, and several sites selling it, including one on ceramic plates and one selling it as a paint-by-number kit.
Is it a photo, or a painting? How could such detail possibly be paint by number? It couldn’t.
Some sites called it a mandrill, a white mandrill, and more than one, a mandrel (!) (which in my experience is a metal rod, often tapered, you slide rings onto, to hammer, shape and resize them. Maybe there are other kinds… But not an animal.)
About half called it a baboon. “A beautiful painting of a blue-furred baboon with piercing blue eyes” on one site where I guess they never looked at it.
I’ve always thought the mandrill was the inspiration for some African masks, but I’ve never heard anybody say so.
I wish people daydreaming the past and bewailing the present would remember that women then, like women now, came in all shapes, sizes, colors and ages.
Nowadays, CGI could wipe out the background towering skyscrapers and replace them with whatever background bucolic scene they wanted. Then they wouldn’t have had to close the lot after all.
Rob Morrow, in the center, played Dr. Joel Fleischman. Because the plot was said to be about Joel coming from New York City and meeting all the quirky denizens and customs of Cicely, Alaska, he expected to be the star.
But it was an ensemble show, with the focus on different characters every week, some more interesting than him.
It’s an old Hollywood story. He eventually walked off, after not having his demands for more salary and screen time met, planning to become a big star elsewhere. He didn’t.
Usually i download the picture and mark all the matching ones till I’m left with one that doesn’t have a match. I didn’t say “pairs” because in some of these there are triplets, as well.
But for some reason, I could see the singular one here without doing all that.
I haven’t found a match for it….
so I’m pretty sure…
It’s the one that’s all blue except for one pink stripe in the center of the front, worn by a mousie that’s very near, but not in, the lower right corner.
Actually, that’s true… it ain’t because it ain’t the full cartoon.
I couldn’t figure it out, so I clicked on the YouTube link.
I couldn’t really follow the creator’s description, but I think he patched it together from bits of two cartoons plus a performance by his own band.
IIRC… Betty gets out in the end of both cartoons…. even though the infirmary in this case meant the morgue.
That’s because the song had already been around for years… a hit for Louis Armstrong and again for Cab Calloway… but you couldn’t have Betty Boop getting killed off in a cartoon.
Speaking of sticky… Well, I was, up there someplace…
I can’t help picturing that carefully groomed and dyed pink poodle trying to snuggle with the cotton candy.
Poodle fur full of spun sugar would be such fun to clean…. a task especially welcome after an hour or two of combing and brushing on the grooming table getting ready for the dog show.
I had a good friend die yesterday.
You might remember mentioning her at one time or another. Jenny, the wife of my first client, Richard. She was badly diabetic and got Covid and it hit her hard. She’s been bed bound since then. Recently her kidneys started failing.
Night before last she passed in her sleep.
I’m heartbroken. She was a lovely lady. Like my mom in that she didn’t have an enemy in the world. Unlike mom she was just slightly off bubble. Fun lady to be around. 🙂
Palate cleanser, Penelope is still proving her goof.
She goes into a room where we aren’t and i guess she gets lonely and starts crying. I call and she comes running back in the room.
She’s getting lost and calling out for help!
Her favorite place in the living room is a rocker close to the lovebird. Fee has yet had the opportunity to bite Penelope. Little Penny is giving Fee plenty of opportunity to pinch.
I’ve had cats like that. Some of the Persians, because they’d always had several other cats around at all times would cry out if they woke up from sleep and no others, or me, was in sight. I found that if I called to them when they did that, they settled.
Sorry to hear the passing of yet another of your clients and associates. At our age, Leslie, it’s become all to much “common” for us to experience. Time waits for none of us, I hear him. But it is the way of Life. Deep Peace to you and her family.
OMG! I drew a picture of her!
Wow that’s really good!
..
♫♪”Am I blue…”♫♪
Yes.
It’s very mysterious….

I blew it up. It’s a painting.
I am amazed!
then there’s this Mandrill er ..Mandrell

..
I’m thinking the compass is probably lined up with reality. That’s pretty cool

The Gulf Between.

Painted by Frank Kelly Freas… I knew I’d seen it somewhere.. it was used as the inside cover of the Queen album “News Of The World”.
I’m more familiar with his other painting, used for the outside cover. (Below)
That’s the album with We Will Rock You, and We Are the Champions.
I just found out that they’re really illustrations for a Sci-fi story.
Happy³ posted the title… but I didn’t know what he meant till I searched the artwork.
Big fan of both.
I have a signed poster by Mr. F and the album in vinyl.
Or all three?
Yes. I also have the short story.
Nice save!
.,
Yes. I remember it well.
You were a grandma in the 1970’s?
I wish people daydreaming the past and bewailing the present would remember that women then, like women now, came in all shapes, sizes, colors and ages.
I think I got two. Maybe three…
L-R:
Yep.
Got all except second left.
Same. (I never did like his acting…)
So did they all have movies up for the award that year?
..,
OMG… I almost missed him too!
I’ll bet he’d let you know right away that he was there!
Kiki!
Sh dosen’t disappear into shadows. She is a shadow.
“Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men?…”
.,,,
No police station?
That was the courthouse.
And the Mayors office and City Hall.
Otis Campbell’s office too…

We saw two of them the other day….

We could wish. But at what personal cost? Too bad she died, though, instead of finding true happiness in her role. Life isn’t always fair.
WOW! Never seen that before!
Going next door to visit his buddy.
Now THAT’s a stretch!
He’s far stickier and stretchier than those sticky stretchy plastic toys.
They are both male and female.
“Pardon me boy, is that the Chattanooga Choo-Choo?”
Track Twenty Nine. Say, can I give you a shine?
Draincocks are open on the cylinders to warm them up and purge any water condensate.
The trainspotter’s insight! 👍👍
I’m going to be out of touch for a day or so starting later tonight. I’m having my hard drive swapped out.
Ouch! Do you need blood donors?
I’m O Negative!
Yeah… I was hoping it wasn’t major surgery.
HDD and/or CPU would be a brain transplant…..
Wait! What happened??? Betty Boop didn’t get out of there? Say it ain’t so!
It ain’t so.

The things you can learn about movie stars in the oddest spots… (from today’s London “Daily Mail”)

Penny is your new tortoiseshell, right?
Always sad to lose friends. At least she was sleeping and never knew what happened.
Sorry to hear that, unfortunately time takes its toll 🙁
