I always thought it was great that Rolling Stone put them on the cover after that… and jokingly didn’t name the band.

I guess we can assume that Nighthawks was not involved in the making of this particular film.

Oooh… a lovely poster … for a movie I loved, adapted from a book I loved….

Ally Walkie’s “The Color Purplie.”

(I dunno, but I don’t think it’s really “The Color PuЯplie”)

Those purplie curtains really make it…. and the lace, and even the cute little sign painter…. could that be our Cleo, in a cameo?

Watch your tail, Celie! Rocking chairs are so hard on tails.

….

It’s a beautiful story… to me, it’s about even more than biscuits and kibble….

but I guess I might be looking at it from a human perspective. Dogs have slightly different priorities.

They’re so wise.

….

I believe it was Whoopie Pie Goldbasset’s first film… and she did an amazing job.

She beautifully portrays the hard life encountered by a poor, unregistered, female basset in the south in those days, and makes you understand her tribulations.

None of the tail-wagging, mugging or mannerisms she later adopted.

And the poster doesn’t mention that it was definitely a first film appearance by Ol’Pal Windfree.

She didn’t stay with acting, finding fame and a life she preferred as a talk shows host… a bit of a loss to movie fans, because she was quite good in this role

Stel posted the copydog human version, of course…. and I see they didn’t get it about “purplie”…. so they didn’t even have a sign painter…

They also used a more “human-centric” agenda in the tagline.

I suppose I’m human… but even if that stuff is supposed to make it appeal to me…

it’s just not as heartwarming or sympathetic, is it, without all those long ears, and those big brown basset eyes.

….

There’s a remake coming out this Christmas.

I want to hate the idea, but a lot of those who developed the original book and film, including author Walkies and director Spielbasset, have not only given their OK, but are involved.

Windfree herself, now somewhat of a mogul, is producing it.

So we shall see.

The humans, BTW, have rushed to copy that, as well.. so once again we shall have competing versions.

My money is on the bassets.
Sigh…

Well, I didn’t list any of her other roles, and there have been many.

Personally, I remember liking her in a movie called “Clara’s Heart”. Then again, the friends I saw it with hated it and called it sappy.

But I figured my comment here was long enough without trying to include full bios of all the actors, or write a definitive Wikipedia article.

Feel free to add.

You’ve probably seen more than I have…

Especially anything recent, since I have no TV and haven’t been to a theater since Covid arrived.

I didn’t say that was recent…

When I invited you to add to her bio, I was talking about all her work, not just STNG.

I said you’ve probably seen more of it than I have…

especially anything she did recently….

Which obviously doesn’t include Star Trek.

In fact, i still had TV then.

Yes, and the human who played her role wasn’t mentioned on their poster either.

It wasn’t a tiny role!

I know you only list the actors the producers tell you to add, and maybe the humans just follow your lead…

but it has always seemed a strange omission.

The thing is, she was still pretty unknown during the filming….

But by the release of the movie, her fame was already growing.

I know I had heard of her… enough so that I wondered how she’d be as an actress….

but she wasn’t yet the huge success she became in the next couple of years.

Still… you’d think that they’d have asked you to update the poster at that point.
