This quote about the human universe copy of “Yappa-Nui”…

The historic details of this film are questionable, and though the central theme—the destruction of the island’s irreplaceable forests is well-authenticated, the idea that this led to the destruction of the Rapa Nui is questionable. The struggle in the story is derived from the legend of the Hanau epe. This film is also one of the biggest box office bombs based on gross earnings, making $305,070 on a $20 million budget.

…comes from      WIKIPEDIA.

In February/March of 2003, I and 87 others took a Mysteries Of Earth trip around the world on a private Boeing 757, reconfigured to have only 88 passenger seats. One of the stops was Easter Island. The inflight movie played upon departing was Rapa Nui. Thanks for reminding me (again).

Though I still have the photos, etc., that I posted back then, the support software for the website no longer exists and what I posted is no longer online (it wasn’t archived AFAIK).

“Flotante”, English translation by Google Translate – floating – is the Spanish title for “Flotsam”.
It is a picture book that tells a complete, and well told, story.
I’ve put the You Tube version of it in the spoiler box.
The illustration chosen by StelBel shows up at 3 minutes 23 seconds (but it won’t make sense until you watch the story ’til there).

Somewhere in the myriad dimensions the -Melville under water camera- exists as a real thing.

Vow of poverty – check
Vow of silence – dubious

Schnauzers are talkers.
Very dubious. 😀

Well, not all monks are silent.

The chastity thing, though, is probably a deal-breaker.

Ahoy, Cleo mateys….

I have to admit that i’ve been drifting off tonight…

it’s appropriate that I landed on beautiful Basset Island….
or, I should say, Yappa Nui…

with its dreamy basset monoliths under the arching Milkbony Way.

Stelbel has created a lovely picture of it…

I have to confess, though, I’d never seen the films, basset or the human copydog one…. I mean, how could I have missed a big star (cough) like Sandy Howls?

Humans always seem to copy the basset films…

they’re so much less creative than the dogs.

The dogs must be stronger, too… just compare the posters.

It seems to be taking a crowd of humans to accomplish what two bassets are doing in the canine version.

And why the heck did they call their island Easter Island?

I agree with Dennis.
Where are the baskets, and the colored eggs… And especially the chocolate?

I don’t see even a single bunny.

This poster shows a giant stone basset head, on top of what looks like a massive wooden post… either placed there, or having been excavated already attached to it.

FYI, Stel does meticulous research… She informed the producers that 21st century excavation proved the heads to be, in fact, attached to giant buried basset torsos.

The producers, though, still liked the way they looked in the original book description…

So she told me that she fooled them, by wrapping the immense body in coconut fiber matting, tied with crude ropes… But we know it’s in there.

In any case, her basset poster is dreamier and more idyllic than anything the humans managed to portray…

If I don’t watch out, I’ll drift away again.
Nice job, Stel!

I WAS plannng to say that before we went to see it, I’d research some Yappa Nui food, and maybe bring some appropriate snacks…

or we could even have a Yappa Nui dinner afterward at the Tiki, with its sort of appropriate decor.

but I did a quick online search, and found out that the early dogs there subsisted mainly on yams, and the particular island RATS.

Nope nope nope.
Kibblecorn all around!

I agree. The poster is gorgeous. I never saw the movie or even heard of it.
Now, if it were called Basset Island…………….
