Thanks!

I’d looked at it quickly and didn’t even notice the snow till you said that. Duh.

So I had to search it… it’s Tucson in 2019.

Yes (if she was 20 here she’d be 73 in ’64 when the song came out).

Only thing is…. 74 is (sniffle) NOT a little old lady.

Okay… I guess maybe we thought it was, back in the dark ages of 1964.

Since nobody’s telling….

This is…
Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford, in the early 1930s.

They were called Hollywood royalty… built a mansion in Beverly Hills when it was still a rural nowhere, and entertained everybody who was anybody. They were inseparable… until they weren’t… which would have been within a few years of this picture.

Is that who you guys thought it was? Cos for me, it’s hard to think of him without her, in that era

She got a little old for them, though she hung on for a long time. People still wanted her to play little girls.

But in the very late 1920s, in her 30s,she finally bobbed her hair….. It was reported in newspapers and fans cried!

In 1932 she turned 40.

Fans had a hard time accepting her in 1930s style vamp roles… and movies had started to talk, so she didn’t need the mugging and pantomime. She quit the movies soon after this portrait.

A type of liqour rather than a moral judgment. Moonshine is raw corn likker. When you age ‘shine through the Bourbon process, you get, well, bourbon.

With a license, one can produce moonshine.

Brave kid!
Good for him!

I’m sure the people with the signs are from the Westboro Baptist Church… which is what they call themselves, but they are not affiliated with or accepted by any real Baptist (or any other) churches.

They are truly evil people, mostly one large extended family, based in Topeka, Kansas… a self-brewed cult, who hate not only gays, but Jews, the military, abortion, other churches, the US government, and more.

They picket funerals of victims of hate crimes, soldiers, and religious leaders, with signs saying the deceased deserved to die.

They protested at the funerals of children killed at Sandy Hook, and at military funerals, where they hold big signs that say things like “Pray for more dead soldiers.”

I watched a series of videos taken from a documentary made by Louis Theroux, where he followed and interviewed members. It was horrifying.

I also saw some YouTube videos made by one of the young women, who left and became a gay rights advocate.

That’s what the courts have repeatedly decided.

Despicable but not illegal.

I’m not sure whether holding a sign that says “God hates Marines”, or “Fags should die” isn’t incitement to violence against those groups, but somehow, they come out protected.

Somebody has done some editing here.
It was 11 seconds after he left that the dryer exploded.
Even at 3 MPH he’d be about 48 feet away from the explosion (or possibly at the driver’s door of his car) and as the explosion was basically right angles to the street, his chance of injury was small.

If I remember correctly, it was a disposable lighter, and the heat from the dryer set it off.

Re: The somersaulting hurdler from yesterday.

Here is an article about Oregon high school student      BROOKLYN ANDERSON       and her winning of the state championship.
There is a link to the race’s ending labeled “most exciting finishes” that matches nighthawks’ posting yesterday.

We don’t use the term ‘Blinker Fluid’ over here, we know it as either ‘Flasher Fluid’, or ‘Indicator Oil’. It replaced the ubiquitous ‘Trafficator Grease’ many years ago when their use fell out of fashion. Either way, I’m nearly out so I must get some.

When I was in electronics school in the Air Force (Keesler AFB, Biloxi MS) it was a common joke to send a newbie to the squadron next door to ask for a quart of Grid Leak Bias.

It is an effect from old vacuum tubes that caused a reverse voltage to appear on a signal input of a vacuum tube amplifier in case anyone was interested in what it was.

Hey! a ditty-bop! Do you remember the term?
I was there from October ’70 to June ’71. I went to tech control school. When I got out in ’74, I went back to a tech school to learn more than just how to fix six tube AM radios. It was Televisions and introduction to computers, which was just becoming common then. I was in the first class and ended up helping the Instructor write the course by troubleshooting the workbooks he was still writing.

“Drift Away” is my blues song. When I’m feeling blue, I dig out the gitfiddle and start in. Starts out soft and mellow. Soon, I’m belting out the chorus.

This was my calico, Ruff. She passed twenty years ago this week due to kidney issues. Essentially her kidneys hadn’t developed properly. She made it to nine which amazed the vets as cats with such issues rarely make three. She was sister to Tumble (Ruff and Tumble) as I wanted linked names for them, and got shouted down by my sisters when I said I was going to name the ‘Furball and Fleabag’.

I have a soft spot for calicos.
