Looks pretty, but is that one of those starfish that destroys coral reefs?

No, those are really scary, spiky Crown of Thorns starfish…

Coral: “Eeek! I didn’t know a starfish could have 14 arms!”

Crown of Thorns Starfish (smacking its …um.. lips?): “The better to … hug…. you with, my pretty!”

Sea Stars can be quite colorful, no doubt. The ones you see the most around here are just your regular five arm orange/pink ones.

I have to say that the waitress looks rather blasé about the order….like it’s really nothing unusual at all. Oh, but maybe that’s because Claude and Cleo are regulars there!

That sounds like something my dog would inhale. And ask for treats after. 🙂

More colorized and animated re-imaginings of historical figures…..

That was fun, Stel! But why did they trim George Washington’s curls?

I wondered the same thing. I think the goal was to modernize his look, perhaps.

First…. As a haircutter, I’ve encountered far more men who want all their curls cut off, or if possible, made to lie flat, than those who enjoy having curly hair.

They say “Just cut it so short it can’t curl.”

But, second, George Washington’s famous curls were on a wig.

Do we know what his real hair looked like?

Could he sing?

Braid that hair and he’d look just like someone else.

I tried to upload a smaller version but the image host wasn’t cooperating… if it ever does I’ll edit one in instead.

I was pretty certain I knew who that is, but when I went looking to confirm, I came across the search result in the attachment below.<p>
I think it’s funny.

Here’s his dip into psychedelia….

The barista seems to be less than thrilled. You had better leave a good tip, Cleo!

After that long recitation I guess I’m not terribly surprised that the waitress/barista forgot to say it:

“And one small regular coffee… Black.”

You posted the Ricky Nelson video a few weeks ago, maybe…

and I said then that I loved this song until one day I actually listened to the lyrics…

and I thought “Wow… why is Ricky Nelson singing about being a total jerk?”

“and in every port I broke the heart of at least one lovely girl.”

And the rest of the song proceeds to list them all.

Ah, what a guy.

Under the mores of today they are pretty bad, aren’t they…
Travelin’ Man

Ricky Nelson

I’m a travelin’ man and I’ve made a lot of stops All over the world
And in every part I own the heart
Of at least one lovely girl

I’ve a pretty Señorita waiting for me Down in old Mexico
If you’re ever in Alaska stop and see
My cute little Eskimo

Oh, my sweet Fraulein down in Berlin town Makes my heart start to yearn
And my China doll down in old Hong Kong
Waits for my return

Pretty Polynesian baby over the sea I remember the night
When we walked in the sands of the Waikiki
And I held you, oh so tight

Oh, my sweet Fraulien down in Berlin town Makes my heart start to yearn
And my China doll down in old Hong Kong
Waits for my return

Pretty Polynesian baby over the sea I remember the night
When we walked in the sands of the Waikiki
And I held you, oh so tight

Oh, I’m a travelin’ man Yes, I’m a travelin’ man
Yes, I’m a travelin’ man
Whoa, I’m a travelin’ man

So, this is now my ear worm for today. Don’t need the lyrics, just the tune.

I don’t think the lyrics meant anything to us teenagers.

I had to go back and listen to it again. Catchy tune, but you’re right, he is singing about a scoundrel!

There are many songs from the 60s and 70s that I can’t stand anymore. Especially ones where older men are exploiting teenagers.

Good morning, Nighthawks-Stelbel phanatics!

I’d have to take what counts as a deep breath for me to get that all out. Oy. Coffee please, leave room.

Y’all eat a strawberry rhubarb pie. What great childhood memories. (((((HuGz!)))))

Nope. Not for me. Can’t handle it. Someone gave me a stalk of raw rhubarb when i was a toddler. Even the smell makes me shudder.

The ex used to cook down the rhubarb into a sugary concoction before putting in the pie. The kids loved it over ice cream.

It’s official ….. my computer is a goner! Boo hoo. That city wide power failure was caused by a thunderstorm. I never used a surge suppressor. Guess what’s on my shopping list today!

So the Banff lake is similar to Saint Mary Lake (if photo taken instead from the island in the middle where the tree is), Glacier National Park, MT, USA
