Some were still young and relatively unknown…
others were famous who are somewhat forgotten today.
But no one could deny the huge assemblage of acting chops.
No, doggies.. not that kind of chops. Go lie down!
And of course Tallulah Barkhead is front and center. Playing the sexy rich basset who only cares about saving her possessions… her voice, as ever, a deep, sexy growl..
She was forever associated with her off-screen persona and antics. While other doggie divas proudly strutted in designer dresses, Tallulah chewed all her clothing off in public, wagging her tail.
Wearing nothing but her own fur under her costumes, she reportedly flashed the film crew so much during production that they complained.
That had to be a LOT… how much does it take to make male bassets complain about seeing … um… girl dog parts?
She announced affairs with male and female partners… some of who didn’t want it to be announced…
and bragged about her own use of catnip and cocaine…
and invited reporters to say anything they wanted to about her… “as long as it’s not boring.”
Wow! I knew that she was somewhat of a “wild dog”, but never imagined that she was that wild! (….just couldn’t bring myself to use the “b”-word, even though it would have been technically correct.)
I’m surprised that 21st Century Basset Pictures gave her a contract, especially since they are usually a more family-friendly production company. But, I would guess that perhaps Hitchdog carried a lot of weight there.
I always enjoy your reviews and commentaries of the canine film industry, and I never fail to learn something new. Thank you.
My older sister and I went to the drive-in in the mid-sixties to see this comedic version on Casino Royale (starring David Niven and an all-star cast) and I was delighted to finally find an extended version of the theme song, which I’ve always liked!
And, after 3 tries, embedding the video version of CASINO ROYALE, which is just a still image anyway, was an impossibility, so I’ll just let it be a link.
re: ” I think it takes more than one refresh to truly refresh these pages…” )
I have noticed that too.
I’ve also noticed that when I do my practice posts to make sure everything works;
when I delete that post my avatar doesn’t disappear until I refresh the page; nor does the comment counter revert to its original, lower, number until the refresh.
I’ve noticed that, at least, for me (and, I do realize that it’s entirely possible and more likely, probable, that we all are having somewhat different experiences on this WordPress site….just different enough where one person’s helpful directions may not, indeed, help someone else…..so, I propose that we all put that caveat into our HELP comments.), my avatar takes a slow minute to reappear on its own…that I do not need to refresh, but just be patient. It’s like things are in slow motion here compared to GoComics.
BUT, I’ll take it! It’s still worth it to be able to post all the stuff that we used to be able to post at GC, until they stopped the fun.
And, if it takes a “refresh” to move things along, well, I’m so used to either refreshing or having to enter the site anew (after “going behind the scenes” to post the Tuesday and Thursday stuff), that it’s just becoming 2nd nature now.
The first one I am really happy about and I’m virtually certain that at the very least no one will be displeased.
If you put your cursor over over any still picture (nighthawks pictures yesterday) or image (such as Susan’s, StelBel’s and Tigressy’s screen shots yesterday) and click on it, it will “pop-out” of the page with a dark background and controls up in the top right for magnifying. I haven’t played around too much with it, but it definitely makes viewing everything easier.
It doesn’t work on the videos I’ve tried it on, but they have their own controls once activated anyway.
The second thing:
If you’re logged in to “Cleo and Company” you’ll see a silhouette of a man and gear to the right of the “X” COMMENTS listing at the top of the comments themselves and just underneath the…
Join the discussion
…box; it’s a link.
Hover over it and an information box will pop up saying “My content and settings.”
If you activate it, it will bring you to a list of all your comments on “Cleo and Company” (there may be a time or number cut-off but the site is so new I doubt we’ve hit it yet).
You cannot edit any comments that are beyond the time limit, but you can delete them; I tested it.
What the other settings are, I’m not sure. Opening the “bell” tab, StelBel appears to have subscribed to getting answers to some of my comments but…….who knows? And there’s a “No data found!” notice under the last tab.
Thanks,Alex! I did not know that one ….I also noticed that if you click on the little radar-
looking symbol under each avatar
You get the option to ‘follow’ that commenter. That means that WordPress will send an email
Whenever that person comments, the comment itself, and a link to comment inside C&C .
Hi, I do not see the radar looking symbol under any avatar? Does anyone else?
ok, finally figured it out, you have to be logged in and I was not, even though I thought I was, logging in turned out to be a challenge as I had to try and change my password several times before it would take it!
This is the “radar-looking symbol” to which Nighthawks was referring. It usually indicates internet service on computers (or, at least mine). It’s right below your avatar picture and, I guess, clicking it will allow you to follow that commenter.
Hi, when I try your number two tip, all I get is Delete All Comments and Cancel All Comment Subscriptions?
ok found problem was not logged in, see my comment above to nighthawks, thanks
I don’t recall having subscribed to anything, but maybe did so without knowing. It’s an interesting function, but so far, I’ve opted against getting any more emails since even important ones, right now, all end up in my junk folder and I have to go searching for them.
Perhaps, at another time, I will. Thanks for the heads up, though.
….I’m really happy to see you’ve got your animated avatar back
Two:
I finally put together Tigressy’s and Saucy1121’s comments and figured out what they were both talking about.
It’s a two part thing after you click the “Choose from Media” box . As I said, neither the “Drop files to upload option or Media Library tabs work for me. But further to that (and this doesn’t work either)….
…if I click on the “Select Files” button it opens my download file on my computer. The programming starts running once I’ve highlighted my choice (and clicked Open on my download box); at the end of its run the site informs me, as both Tigressy and Saucy1121 have said, “Sorry, you are not allowed to upload files.”
Three:
Tallulah Barkhead’s purplie eyeshadow in her “reel life” definitely goes along with her purplie language in her real life.
I believe “select files” means that you can choose any folder with images on your computer…..not just your “Download” folder, but if you have any other folders where you save pictures. I just don’t want people to think that they have to select something from “Downloads” only. As you can possibly imagine, I have dozens of folders with images on my computer, many that I’ve created myself (posters and animations). I’d be here for a week if I relied on my “Downloads” file to find a particular image. My “Evil Queen” is in a couple of folders (so, I don’t lose her!), one of which is labeled “Avatars”.
Tallulah: Apparently so! I was aghast after reading Susan’s poster review. I never was too familiar with that particular actress.
Lifeboat, a story that takes place entirely on a small boat. Gripping, right? But I think the combination of Tallulah Barkhead in the poster, with the restriction to Dogs Over 2, probably brought in the box office. Hitchdog’s cameo in this movie is very subtle.
I’ll have to research more on her. I’m sure it was quite shocking at the time, although nowadays, that behavior is a bit more common in Hollywood and Howlywood!
Really? Do you think that’s the “Kokomo” they’re singing about? I always thought it was somewhere in the Caribbean! Kokomo, IN seems like kind of a letdown…..

THANK YOU! That was awesome. I would love to get in on one of those air-to-air photo shoots. There was a mustang in there with a Malcolm hood, I’ve never seen one first hand before. Thanks again for posting that 🙂 😀
Thanks to Tigressy for the suggestion.

Do you think it was the human’s macabre sense of humor to cast someone named “Hull” in a movie taking place at sea?
Nah…..I think it was Hitchcock’s macabre sense of humor!
Whoa… what a film…. and what a cast!

others were famous who are somewhat forgotten today.

You’re welcome. Thank you for the credit.
You would have done that fabulous poster anyway (it’s a Hitchdog!) – and the name of the boat is an ingenious touch.
And, thank you, as well….for the idea and for the complement.
Never knew it was written by John Steinbark!
Hah! Nor did I! Who said you couldn’t learn something here?

@ Everybody
I discovered two things yesterday.

The attached screen shot is what I get when I click.
This may be another case of different-people-different-screens.
See StelBel’s comment here
Scroll down (you can right click and open the link in a new page):
You’ll see Tigressy’s screenshot first, then StelBel’s
so, you’re saying then, that you DO have the ability to ‘follow’ commenters?
yes, I do now
I don’t recall having subscribed to anything, but maybe did so without knowing. It’s an interesting function, but so far, I’ve opted against getting any more emails since even important ones, right now, all end up in my junk folder and I have to go searching for them.

Have you tried whitelisting important addresses?
Mails from amazon used to end up in my spam-folder a long time ago before I did that.
Three things.
One…
….I’m really happy to see you’ve got your animated avatar back

Indeed I do!!!!
Thank you! I missed the ol’ evil Queen!!

Stel, do you have the Basset version??
great find!
NH: I didn’t find it like that! I made that with a picture of Hitchdog on the front page.
I deleted the first copy since i had forgotten to sign it. So, now, it’s reposted.
Just for you, Dennis! Ask, and you shall receive!
HA HA! I recognize Alfred Hitchdog in that front page photo!
I think Tallulah Barkhead might be the reason the movie carries that warning: “No Puppies Under Two.”
Her every gesture was suggestive… and when out on publicity tours, no one ever knew what she might say.
I’ll have to research more on her. I’m sure it was quite shocking at the time, although nowadays, that behavior is a bit more common in Hollywood and Howlywood!
Kokomo is such a tease, as we emerge from this winter! Better days ahead!
hopefully not Kokomo, Indiana
Really? Do you think that’s the “Kokomo” they’re singing about? I always thought it was somewhere in the Caribbean! Kokomo, IN seems like kind of a letdown…..
Ohhhh, nooooo………..I looked it up! And, it really does NOT exist in the Caribbean!
Where is Kokomo? The Inspiration Behind the Beach Boys’ Iconic Song – Keycaribe Magazine
Well it will be there in our minds. Maybe the Chinese will build an island in the South China Sea and call it Kokomo.
Years ago I had a girlfriend who was enchanted with the name Eleuthera. I hope she got there, eventually.
Nighthawks, are you the source of all these seafaring-related posts? I have to agree that Gordon Lightfoot is a helluva good singer.
A college friend referred to him as Gordon Mellowfoot.
That’s appropriate! He was mellow….
Nope. Tuesday’s and Thursday’s are all Stel’s
Love it!
Not sure what exactly, but I’ll take credit until you tell me differently! LOL
In part for the art, and in part because it’s one of my favorite Hitch movies. See my reply to Tigessy’s comment yesterday.
That was fast!
Love the name of the boat.
Well, I guess that was the Lifeboat for C&C!
(It didn’t feel that fast last night, as I kept looking at the clock! lol)

Me, too.
gee, I can’t think of a better selling point for smoking tobacco than being told
that it is ‘toasted’
As a former smoker, yeah…….”toasted” does NOT entice me in the least!
side note: the supposed doctor in the ad really reminds me of a now-older Chevy Chase!
Find the seven horses
I could only find 3! 🙁
I found five, the sixth is legitimate though tricky.
The last one is a cheat as far as I’m concerned, so I’ll tell you you’re supposed to count the set of hoofprints as a horse.
One horse, the rest is just foam, clouds, sand, and seaweed.
OK – in that case, I’ve found them all, too.
At least there’s not a pile of horse manure…
I also found five. There are a couple places that could be horses if you have a good imagination.
This one is for P51Strega
I loved this, too! I can almost hear those Merlin engines in the band.

Wow! you’d almost think he was trying to warn us of something…
As much as I love Hitchdog’s work, I never saw this film.. I guess it has to do with the age warning.
me, too!
Tallulah Barkhead is gorgeous! Does Johnny Howlick have a cowlick?? Very good depiction.
Howlick/Cowlick…….my thoughts, as well! We may never know.
But, thanks PC!
