I dunno…. Those lowered ears and squinched eyes look to me like he’s expecting a scolding….

And he’s saying “Aw c’mon man… It was just a little joke. Right? A little joke between friends. And we’re friends, right?”

The guy on the left is an easy one.

He’s
Cary Grant.
The identity of the other two and the name of the movie, however, … ??

Yes….

that’s
Cary Grant.

with…
Deborah Kerr… filming “An Affair to Remember.”

It could be Leo McCarey, the director, in the middle, though I thought he was a bit more dapper.

OTOH it’s the 50s… not a very dapper era.

I just notice the little table is up on blocks, or wearing lifts. I guess it needed to be taller in this scene?

The couch is also up on blocks, must be a rough neighbourhood.

“The Great Stink” –July and August 1858

Just wondering ….. why?

I mean… 1858?

Especially with bright lights and double decker buses….

The picture associated with the 1858 ‘Great Stink’ is generally a different one more focussing on the river and the Houses of Parliament. Probably to indicate that it wasn’t until those in power got inconvenienced that something was done about London’s sewage treatment systems, or rather, the lack of them.

Joseph Bazalgette cleaned up the City and the River.

Yes, I’ve read about that.

It even caused somewhat of a cholera epidemic before anything was done.

Some tried to deny the connection… But funny thing: it stopped when the sewage was removed.

I was just wondering why Steve associated this picture with it…. though I’m pretty sure his tongue was somewhere in the vicinity of his cheek.

There are full grown men on the ground who I’m guessing are about ¾ the height of Lincoln’s knees.

I’m thinking they mean the seated figure is 19′ feet high with the head on it…. and wouid be considerably taller if he could stand up.

In reality, he was immensely taller in a historical sense. A statue can’t portray the value that he (and all those who fought and died there) added to the world.

I can’t see what’s “dark” about lots of them.

I know several of them, and have never thought there was anything sinister about their names. In fact I have a niece with one of them, and felt no chill at the announcement.

Polly? Belinda? Delores? Inga? Maeve?

I suppose Morgan is on the list cos of Morgan Le Fay, but the parents of the one I know certainly never thought of that, nor AFAIK did anyone at school.

And my young friend Maude hated her name, in grade school, but only because it’s old fashioned. By adulthood she appreciated it

The music is Prokofiev. I forget which piece exactly. It is intended to sound “very Russian,” which was important to the composer. And if I’m not mistaken, the cat is a Russian blue.

I love this “Dance of the Knights” – it is so emotional and I want to know what will happen here if I write this URL down – if not wanted please let me know, I will delete my comment:
Prokofiev: Romeo and Juliet, No 13 Dance of the Knights (Valery Gergiev, LSO)

You can post whatever music you like, Marge!

If you enjoy it, chances are that others will too….

And even if nobody else enjoys it, which is unlikely, the attempt to share is always appreciated!

I’m sure some music and pictures have been posted that didn’t match your taste…. or anyone else’s here.

But no one asks that it be deleted.

You have just as much right as any other member of the community!
