A direct ancestor of the trained animal shows at the county fair.
The fairgrounds has at least half a dozen small outdoor stages or arenas, plus temporary stages in various buildings, and every year there’s a new animal show or two someplace, alternating with the not quite professional level bands, magicians and jugglers, all included in your fair admission.

I’ve watched trained cats, birds, pigs, goats…. A few years ago a great show with small mammals riding tricycles and playing a toy piano, including ferrets, a marmot and a huge groundhog.

Every few years there’s a big show with dogs diving into a big pool and racing.

Last year a pond enclosed in plastic tarps was built inside the main sales pavilion, where a waterskiing squirrel named Twiggy was pulled around behind a motorized rowboat.

Corny? Absolutely. Do I watch them? Of course.

1.9 miles. Just inside the busing limit of 2 miles. Walked to school as well. I still walk 3 or so miles a day,

At first I took the school bus in high school, but by my senior year I rode my bike the almost 3 miles each way, even in light snow.

In really cold weather or deep snow, I took the bus… But it stopped several blocks away.

If I missed it for going home, cos I liked to stay behind to mess around in chem lab, I took the city bus, which stopped even farther away

The cat I had in high school disappeared for two days. We were frantic, searching everywhere.

She never cried or came out looking for dinner…

She turned up asleep in a laundry bag. The drawstring was pulled shut. We never figured out whether she was in there the whole time, but there was no sign of…um… messing it up.

Any relation to Pablo?

Um … sorry, but this is neither Pablo nor Paublo, whoever he is

It doesn’t look like a Picasso… He never painted so neatly, or so tritely, with little repetitive patterns inside tidy outlines. It looks more like something from a fake Picasso coloring book

And surely he never signed his work “BRAMSS”.

I tried to Google it and couldn’t find out much. It does appear on a Facebook page for someone named Bramss, with title, explanation, or comments.

But my best guess, looking at all the similar pictures that turned up, is that it’s from an AI program that gives you “Picasso style”…. but not well.

This is (from Alamy)…

RELEASED: Dec 07, 1943 – Original Film Title: Lassie Come Home. PICTURED: RODDY McDOWALL, LASSIE.

The original!

Yes!

Before there was …
Jeff, in my childhood, and long before Timmy, (and also before my time, if you mean when the films were new), there was Joe, Roddy McDowall’s character. Also a very young Elizabeth Taylor.

But of course, those movies still showed up for the children’s matinees, and we saw them.

The dog was actually “Pal”, a male (shhh) rough collie, who played Lassie in this, and all her MGM films, and in the pilot and a couple of episodes of the TV show, before being replaced by his son (shhh).

If I’m understanding what I’m finding, cos it’s a bit confusing, and I’m tired…

This is a very low pass by the Antonov An-225 Mriya (“Dream”), on its way to a landing.

One reason I’m confused is that it doesn’t look that huge in this picture, but my search results turned up the name….

and it was “the world’s largest and heaviest strategic cargo aircraft, famous for its 88.4-meter wingspan, 250-tonne payload capacity, and six turbofan engines. ”

According to Wikipedia, it was developed in the 1980s to carry Soviet spacecraft, but, sadly, was destroyed in its hanger by Russian forces in 2022, during the invasion of Ukraine.

Robin Hood

I think I have them too….
1) for instance
2) deep in thought
3) your time is up
4) Sit down and shut up, or vice versa.
5)Robin Hood
6) green with envy

[#4 seems too obvious… like they could have just used the words “Shut” up high and “sit” down below.]

It doesn’t say what they do, though.

I suppose i could find out if I called.

Somehow I don’t think showing them photos would be enough. 🙂

Simi Valley, California. Near the hillsides to the northeast of the city. It’s usually dry and very rocky (nice to drive through on the freeway, just for the view). Now they’re in Bath, Maine. No snakes there that I’ve noticed or heard of.

The other day I mentioned the fake toy dog ads I’ve been seeing amongst the “shorts” I watch on YouTube.

They use AI to combine clips of a real dog and a toy, and try to convince you that the battery powered dog you order will look and act like what you’re seeing, when it should be obvious it’s impossible.

Comments are disabled, so you can’t warn people.

I’ve read some reviews online from people who were foolish enough to order one, and got a plastic toy dog with fake fur glued on, nothing like the ad.

Well, Easter is coming, and there’s a new crop of fake bunny toy .ads ..

I tried before to do an animated screen shot of a different ad, but it came out too big to post.

I tried to capture just a couple of seconds of the bunny, to see if it would post. You’re supposed to think this is a toy. Uh huh.
