This is exactly the way Dennis posted it on GoComics for me in 2018.
I made it using the buttermilk option and Dennis’ mother’s method of putting it in a greased casserole dish; it rose and spread beautifully.
I regret to say I haven’t made it since then, but then I haven’t made Rum Ribs either. I’m getting lazy with my cooking, I guess.
“Alexi, this is my Irish Nana’s recipe. I am told the addition of raisins is an Irish-American thing, like corned beef and cabbage.
4 c all-purpose flour
1/4 c granulated sugar
1 tsp each salt, baking powder
1/4 c butter, melted
2 c seedless raisins
1.5 c buttermilk or milk
1 egg
1 tsp baking soda
mix and sift flour, sugar, salt and baking powder
Cut in butter with wooden spoon until it resembles coarse corn meal
Stir in raisins
Combine milk, egg and baking soda.
Stir milk mixture into flour mixture until just moistened
Cook in 375 deg. oven 45-50 min, until golden brown.
You can bake this in a loaf pan but I prefer my mother’s way of putting the ball of dough in the middle of a greased casserole dish, it spreads out but maintains a mountain shape.”
Just had it tonight with the tenderest corned beef ever.

The one shoulder gown is an intriguing look for Cleo. At least I think that’s the objective. An air of mystery, a whisper of romance ……….. or maybe that’s just the hiss of bubble blowing.

P.S. Greetings from St. John U.S. Virgin Islands – 74/81 were the lo/hi temps yesterday, today, tomorrow, etc.
A standing ovation because they didn’t have to listen to her play that horn and got a laugh besides. Good one! She seems overdressed for that instrument. Maybe she should take up the harp. Bubble gum all over the strings would be another sticky situation.

finally figured out how to subscribe, log in, make an avatar. Hurray for me!
BTW – I’m in our 928S4 at MIS! Only 105mph because clutch is a little loose and the tires are old. Had we known we’d be doing more than parade lap speed (70) hubby might have upgraded sooner. Oh, well.
It was still a blast. Coming into the turns and the banking of about 45 degrees was intimidating and awesome.
