You can’t fool me. This is neither Martina Navratilova nor Chris Evert, in spite of the wooden racket.

Correct sir… According to a newspaper caption at the time, which was 1875…. this is “Miss Barton in her tennis costume.”

I believe a tennis dress was white, and the corset a tiny bit looser than that for a regular afternoon dress, so of course, one wouldn’t wear it on the street, or to someone’s house for a social call, much less to dinner.

Apparently the architect’s brain (and the people who approved it) had some brain problems of their own.

I can see why it would be. There must be some – .. – .. – .. er, – .. – .. uh, – .. – .. – cutting edge research going on in there.

They used the crumpled and tossed design by mistake?

Lol… Yeah, or maybe the architect crumpled and threw away the blueprint, but the builder liked it, and built it anyway.

The Strand magazine for Jan 1892, says, of these two women making a Snow Lady,:

“No foundation of any kind was used, and no sticks or wires were concealed under the figure for the purpose of supporting head, body, or arms.
An enlargement of the original Photograph was shown at the Photographic Exhibition during last autumn, and gave rise to many remarks, sage and otherwise.”

Mind you, I’m not saying I believe the part about it having no armature, but I can imagine some of the “otherwise” remarks.
But considering that this was taken long before Photoshop, do you think it’s altered?

Me too.

But I think some of the photos are enhanced into unrecognizability. (Is that a word?)

I have a hard time even looking at this… in spite of the fact that I’ve read that they almost never fall.

If they do, it’s not from a misstep, or losing their balance, it’s from a rock fall or avalanche underfoot, or sometimes from fighting each other in mating season, or fighting off a rare predator.

I’ve seen video of little bitty baby goats starting to climb straight up mountainsides when they’re a few hours old… A nanny will stand below her kid just in case it starts to fall.

She wants to get the kid safely off flat ledges, and above the point where wolves and bears try to climb.

I saw another short video where there was a mountain goat standing on what looked like an old clothesline, eating some moss that was hanging from it.

Sniffle…. it ..um… would feel too weird to give that a like.

But yeah, it’s the littlest kids they go after, and the nannies try to stay close to protect them…

but when they go scrambling úp ahead, there’s not much she can do.
