I agree. In fact, both videos were excellent (‘Puttin’ On The Ritz’ from Young Frankenstein
being my favorite version of that song….it never fails to make me laugh!).
A mash up of the “Zorro” theme and a bit of sword play.
Nighthawks, you’ve caught the costuming perfectly.
Are there any instructions you can give us so we can embed the youtube videos directly as we used to be able to do at GoComics?
Blueberry Pie
(Filling for putting directly in crust)
1 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup cornstarch or flour
4 to 4 1/2 cups frozen blueberries
1 tablespoon lemon juice
2 tablespoons butter
Mix together sugar and cornstarch (or flour).
Combine with blueberries and turn into pastry lined pie plate. Sprinkle with lemon juice and dot with butter. Cover with top crust, seal and flute edges. Slash top, or prick well with fork.
Bake in preheated 425° F. oven for 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 350° F. for 50 to 60 minutes longer.
Notes from me:
The blueberries are used frozen when mixing.
The pie plate can be either 9-inch or 10-inch and at the time this recipe was written, glass.
Bake on the second oven rack (top rack is first).
I’d keep an eye on the pie at the 40 minute mark in the second stage.
no, that’s something I haven’t been able to do. It’s still pretty cool to be able
to post a clickable link as opposed to GoComics’ policy. There must be a plug-in
that will allow everyone to ’embed the video directly into the comments box’ –but
so far I haven’t found it.
you CAN post soundless gifs in the comments box
Yeah, it would be awesome to have the embedded function. But, nighthawks, I see that you/someone can place Vevo and YouTube at the top of the list of comments I see here, so there must be a way…
Thank you for that recipe for Blueberry Pie! You know, of course, that whatever resistance I had up to now is GONE!!! I’m just going to have to get my pie plate out and start baking!
At first, my formatting toolbar went missing for a few days, but it’s now consistently there. It’s almost like the site has to get used to you being here! LOL Hope it returns for good!
I had to chuckle though, that when all else fails, as a last resort, maybe the GC formatting underscores to get italics might work! Please don’t edit them…..that’ll render this comment moot, and it was cute!
It wasn’t meant to be a try, that time… LOL… Maybe it’s obvious, but I’m so used to the shortcuts on GoComics I even find myself automatically typing them elsewhere, like in Notepad, before I see them and correct them.
I wouldn’t be surprised if you’ve gotten email from me with underscores or asterisks in it.
But… I was actually planning to test them on an older page… because I found out they’re part of what’s called a “markdown” language.
Markdown is a shortcut form of HTML, which is called “mark UP”… there are several markdown sets of codes, and some are shared on various websites… so you never know till you try.
In this case I don’t have to cos I already did, by accident. 🙂
Susan – I don’t have specific information about your toolbar issue, but personally I’d blame a “certain” cheapskate cartoonist.

Boy, it just writes itself, doesn’t it? Rolls right off your guitar strings.
From the days when being a movie actor meant you came up through the ranks of show business.
To be a Hollywood leading man, you may have started in vaudeville, or taken lessons all your young life, to be able to perform in everything.. from comedy, to drama to musicals…
I’ve found that you CAN edit or delete your comment, but the formatting toolbar is not displayed when you access the edit mode. Consequently, no bold or italicized
words after you post it the first time…..I suppose , if you really want to put in
those bold or italicized or underlined words ,you can copy your previous comment,
then paste it into an new comment box, where you can use the formatting tools
and then if you remember it, delete the first comment
Yeah, when I first posted it, it didn’t give me an edit button either….
later it showed up… so I tried it, and found exactly that… no formatting there either.
Redoing it later would have put it after my other comments…
so I wonder what would happen if f I wrote it in a fresh comment box and pasted it, already formatted, into the edit box that pops up.
Dunno whether it would maintain the bold and italics.
Hover your mouse-pointer right from “Reply”. See the small cogwheel to the far right? It says “Manage Comment” when you hover and changes to “Edit” when you click it.
Click that “Edit” (which is tricky sometimes, you may have to try several times).
Et voilà…
Ok, I’m replying to you now… I’m on my tablet, so I’m using a finger not a mouse… but I also did other replies last night on this computer.
And in both cases I have hovered and long pressed and tried everything I could, everywhere I could, but I don’t see that cogwheel.
I only see it when I’m in a box that already has full functionality… such as the formatting toolbar.
Otherwise… such as in a reply, or in the box that pops up when you click edit on your own comment…
or, inexplicably, in my first comment on this page, the one about Perro…
the ONLY tools I have available are the image upload button and the slashed bell. In fact though sometimes i have the cogwheel, I don’t think I have ever seen a “manage comment” button, label or alt text.
I’m beginning to think this site is gaslighting us, by giving us all different tools and options.
Gable sings about as well as I do. Which is to say, poorly. His dancing is okay, and of course he looks terrific – again like I do.
Cagney & Hope are really a surprise. Their routine is excellent.
I found Susan’s ‘drama’, but no lollipop….yet. I don’t have time to stare at this for hours today. Does it hurt your eyes to stare at one of these for long periods of time?? Hey, I found the bunny yesterday!! OH, WAIT! I checked one more time and found it. Yes, there really is a lollipop there. Whew!
Yes, I found both of those and the cone wearing a cone hat. Quite a lot going on there. Nice to know it’s good for the brain ~ I can use all of that I can get.😁

As those videos are above all the comments, not actually
IN a comment, but embedded in the page…
I believe uploading them takes administrator privileges, just like posting the strip itself, or making any other changes to the page layout.
Commenters, as you know, have a much more limited set of privileges…. so it doesn’t necessarily mean we’d ever be granted that one.

¡Ay, Dios mio! It has finally happened, mis Cleomigos!

Perro rides! At last, he rides!
Avenger of evil, rescuer of mothers and babies…. champion of the down-trodden….
He rides!
Apparently right up onto rooftops… Or maybe he stands on his horse to _climb_ onto rooftops… yeah, isn’t that what heroes do?
And he leaps onto evil-doers, fists blazing… sword at the ready!
Will he mark the corrupt alcade with a “P”?
Is he going to take up this fight singlehanded?
Who will ride with Perro?
Stay tuned!

Lollipop Lollipop, oh Lolly, lolly lollypop—-find one!
Found the lollipop…. but what I want to know is who the #@%! sticks straws into ice cream cones?
Also… there’s a whole little drama to find, as well… involving a gentle assault on a horrified double header cone.
Maybe the straw was actually a candy cane? Still, who sticks candy canes in an ice cream cone?
Love the dramatic assault….missed it the first time I saw this puzzle.

I think it’s probably GOOD for your eyes….practicing focus.
I’ve read that the same is definitely true for your brain… concentrating on puzzles helps you not lose the ability to focus.
Meanwhile… do you see the ice cream with a big toothy smile, and the one wearing a teeny top hat? LOL.
Yes, I found both of those and the cone wearing a cone hat. Quite a lot going on there. Nice to know it’s good for the brain ~ I can use all of that I can get.😁
Found the lollypop and the drama. That two headed cone appears to be a victim of cannibalism!

damn. I have no idea where I got French out of that –what I should have said was:

French, Italian… does it really matter? I mean, they’re all Europeans, right? (She says when she’s safely 10 or 12 thousand miles away.)
