An article in the “The Guardian” about photographer      ED FREEMAN’S WORK.     In a previous career he produced Don McLean’s “American Pie.”

I thought everybody knew what that was.

But….

I suppose
Motor oil hasn’t come in flat topped cans for a pretty long time, so it’s been a while since we needed those spouts.

I haven’t found a picture yet of one in use.

Visiting my sister in Victoria, BC…

One day she has gone off to work and let my not-quite-5-year-old (now 44-year-old) niece stay home from preschool to spend the day with me.

From the top of the stairs she looks down at me, ready for our shopping and tea shop expedition (a wonderful place, Victoria) looking almost exactly like this picture, except for the hairdo, and the half pint of blue and purple eye shadow she’s wearing that the young lady above hasn’t also applied.

“Eek!” I say. “Did you get into your mother’s makeup?!”.

Indignantly pulling herself up to her full 3 feet or so tall, one hand on her hip, she glares down at me.

“It’s MY makeup! You should know your sister (in a tone of superiority I only wish I could reproduce) doesn’t even wear proper makeup!”

I’ve never seen a basset scale any kind of table.

What about the ant in panel four?

I believe that’s the spider, now descended.

Don’t start counting legs… like the wood grain of the table, and even fingers on the characters, such things in cartoons may be suggested, not fully shown in every panel.

Yay!!!

BatBasset and Sparrow have escaped the minicage!

But if they don’t want to become known as MiniBatBasset and MiniSparrow, they must find a way to get back to normal size.

BatBasset has a good idea… perhaps he can enlarge upon it.

If there is indeed a reverse switch on the Shrinkerator™️…. do you suppose it’s limited to reversing its own work?

Or could they use it to become twice their normal size, to be a bigger threat to Dr. Ratbreth and the EWC?

And anyway, is their normal size Basset hound size or, say, human size?

So many variables, so many questions, when you’re using unknown and untried equipment.

Do they have to be careful to aim the rays evenly, so they don’t end up with one big foot, or could one of them choose to have a huge hand, or… OK, let’s stop right there.

Could it be renamed the Giantizer™, or the Growerizer™️, and used to triple-size our world-wide grain stores, and end starvation?

No giant cattle, please… they’d eat us out of Earth and home before we could eat them.

Meanwhile… yeah. If the BatLaser™️ can cut through a steel bar, surely it can do serious damage to a spider?

Unless…oh no!

Could a slightly careless hand at the controls enlarge that beast along with BatBasset??

Hopefully, we’ll find out Wednesday, right here on this BatChannel™️
