I had not seen Arlo with his white hair! Good to know that he is still performing.

He’s been on several music specials on PBS. A favorite for pledge breaks!

Claude’s put himself in a peach of a pickle.

From: “The Laura Secord Canadian Cook Book”
Prepared by the Canadian Home economics association
Published by McClelland and Stewart Limited Toronto/Montreal
ISBN: O-7710-4080-6

Pickled Peaches

You’ll love the spicy aroma of the syrup as it simmers gently with the peach-packed sealers standing by.

Dip peaches in boiling water and then in cold water to loosen skins. Peel

6 pounds peaches (about 25 medium)

Peel peaches and stick in each one

2 whole cloves

Cover peaches with a mixture of

2 1/2 quarts (12 1/2 cups water)
3 tablespoons vinegar

In a large preserving kettle combine italics

9 cups granulated sugar
5 cups white vinegar
1 1/2 cups water

Tie together in cheesecloth and add

1 piece whole dried ginger
3 (3-inch) cinnamon sticks

Bring to a boil and add drained peaches.
Cover, and boil for about 10 minutes, or until tender.
Let stand overnight with a plate on top to keep peaches under surface of iquid. Pack peaches
in hot sterilized sealers.

Bring syrup to a boil and simmer uncovered for 5 minutes. Remove spice bag. Pour over
peaches, filling each jar to overflowing. Secure top.

Serve with turkey, duck, pork or veal.

Makes 6 to 7 pints.

Note from me: recipe is as written.

I just discovered that if you hover your pointer over the little clock symbol between
your avatar and the x time ago and share symbol you get a little pop up box
that shows the exact date and (Cleveland) time you posted your comment.

That is correct the     🕓     symbol currently shows Eastern Standard Time. and its associated date.

Here’s a picture of Eastern Standard Time’s associated date.

Hm. Not bad, but that seems to be an excessive amount of sugar, I would cut that at least in half…but that’s just me

Howdy Herman… is it ok to ask your Ballard Street name?

Might be dangerous to your health. The sugar acts as a preservative, along with the vinegar, and if the balance isn’t right bacteria (including Clostridium botulinum) might grow.

That’s far worse than extra sugar. IMHO

Good evening, Cleophiles…..

I can still say that, cos even in Cleveland, it isn’t morning yet. Over on Ballard street I was always wanting to say it, but knowing that most people wouldn’t see it till morning.

I’m still getting used to the idea that Cleo appears so early, now that the Cliffords control their own space.

(Yeah, yeah…. I know that Nighthawks thinks he controls it…. Cleo has a good laugh when she thinks about that.)

It’s even too early for me to bring the Ballard streeters over,, cos they don’t show up for over an hour… Though maybe that’ll change when they realise they can come here ahead of the GoComics schedule.

I guess I can go leave them a message on tomorrow’s strip, since we don’t have to wait for 2011 to be posted.

Apparently my formatting toolbar is still asleep, too. It’s been working fine for a couple of days, but apparently it didn’t expect me so early tonight.

Anyway… Claude should have chosen peaches in LIGHT syrup.

That heavy syrup is really hard on the toes.

You say light syrup would have been a bright idea?

At least a glowing one.

But maybe brilliant, depending on the wattage.

Must be those cling peaches in heavy syrup that Edith Bunker is so fond of.

That must be can of extra heavy peaches. Cleo wishes that she had gotten video of it.

Found the cat right away. I guess I’m more in tune with cats than frogs and bowling balls.

Yes… I saw it too….

And he looks awfully pleased, for being stuck amongst those scary owls.
He’s hardly even hiding, unless he’s just counting on the camouflage.

And… um…. Steve… his whole face is showing… with what looks like a big happy meow on it.

He certainly is one of the nicest, most innocent and patient characters you may ever meet. But – unfortunately – most probably also the last.

GOOD MORNING C&C PHANS!
Q Date: 359.98780.14 – FINISHER’S MEDAL DAY (Or loser’s, but we can’t have hurt feelings, day)

NATIONAL BE HEARD. CEREAL, FLAPJACK, CROWN ROAST OF PORK DAY

Claude should be happy that’s not a #10 can of peaches or he’d be leaving part of his foot in the floor.

Y’all have Rice Krispies™ to be heard, roast pork for lunch, and breakfast (flapjacks) for dinner!

(((((HUGS!)))))

Good Sunny Sunday morning, Cleophites. While dining on canned peaches (ugh) I’m all ready to make my special breakfast of a chorizo omelet I’ll make enough for the whole crowd. Fresh peach pie from Clara’s own recipe for desert.
