A great song. This video made me realize how he blended his falsetto into the trio of female singers who supported him. Nicely done.

But it’s another of those songs so popular in the 60’s…

The ___ telling his girlfriend to be faithful and wait for him, while he plays around, because that’s “how a man is made.”

….

In fact, it has some of the jerkiest lyrics ever,

Every boy wants a girl he can trust…

But she’s old enough to know…

When he sees lips “begging to be kissed”… It’s “lightening striking again.”

….

Oh heck… I googled ’em

if you wanna read ’em….:

Listen to me, baby, you gotta understand (ma-me-aah, ooh)
You’re old enough to know the makings of a man (ma-me-aah, ooh)
Listen to me, baby, it’s hard to settle down (ma-me-aah, ooh)
Am I asking too much for you to stick around (ma-me-aah, ooh)

Every boy wants a girl
He can trust to the very end
Baby, that’s you
Won’t you wait but ’til then?

When I see lips beggin’ to be kissed (stop)
I can’t stop (stop) I can’t stop myself (stop, stop)
Lightning is striking again
Lightning is striking again

Nature’s takin’ over my one-track mind (ma-me-aah, ooh)
Believe it or not, you’re in my heart all the time (ma-me-aah, ooh)
All the girls are sayin’ that you’ll end up a fool (ma-me-aah, ooh)
For the time being, baby, live by my rules (ma-me-aah, ooh)

When I settle down
I want one baby on my mind
Forgive and forget
And I’ll make up for all lost time

If she’s put together fine and she’s readin’ my mind (stop)
I can’t stop (stop) I can’t stop myself (stop, stop)
Lightning is striking again
Lightning is striking again and again and again and again

(Ma-me-aah, ooh)
(Ma-me-aah, ooh)
(Ma-me-aah, ooh)

Lightning is striking again
Lightning is striking again

There’s a chapel in the pines
Waiting for us around the bend
Picture in your mind
Love forever, but ’til then

If she gives me a sign that she wants to make time (stop)
I can’t stop (stop) I can’t stop myself (stop, stop)

Lightning is striking again
Lightning is striking again and again and again and again
Lightning is striking again and again and again and again

……….

(I especially love the multiples of again and again!)

I grooved on the music and didn’t pay any attention to the lyrics.
What an eye-opener.

I have a collection of mysogyny songs that includes “Lighting…”, “Put Another Log On The Fire”, and “Tequila Sheila”.
I’m thinking of making an album.

Doctor… Mr. MD.. I love that line. I guess today it would be Mr. PCP.

His prescription cannot be filled at the drug store, though, unless it is one that back in the day had a soda fountain for the teens.

There is that pause in the music. Back then the DJs would take the opportunity to whisper “WABC” or whatever station they were on.

At one time in the industry he would have been called Atmosphere People. I read an article about it by a person that was a part time professional atmosphere person. He wasn’t trying to become any kind of star, he just liked being on the sets. And at the time it made a good side gig.

A friend’s father did that for many years. “Spot Daddy” was a popular game in their family (4 kids). I think he may even have gotten a line or two over the years.

My mom said she did some of that, too, before she was pregnant with me….

I was 27 when she added that during a brief trip to California, we were both extras in a movie, when I was 4 or 5 months old.

(It was type-casting: I played a baby.)

But she insisted that she couldn’t remember the names of any of the movies, so I’ve never seen them.

Wow…. Mick Jagger and Keith Richards were both 23 here…

Before Mick’s voice and Keith’s face were ravaged by 60 years of hard use, in Mick’s case, and well, you name it, he’s probably done it in Keith’s.

They’ll both turn 80 this year!

And despite having announced their upcoming retirement many times in different years, they’re still touring and performing.

And, doing the touring quite, quite, well!

At least in 2019, they looked pretty good. They stopped in Seattle on their No Filter tour.

I am going to guess that Nighthawks will be scarce today, owing to the prevalence of the-color-that-shall-not-be-named in today’s feature.

no, not PURPLE, I’m fine with purple
….it’s the Rotifer-coined contamination of it that continues to make me cringe

Ooh… beautiful poster…. beautiful vintage shade of blue.

Lovely color-blocking.

And we can’t forget…. gorgeously handsome Western hero, Tom Mixbasset, with those thrilling, steady, brown eyes.

….

Psst…. don’t believe the rumors about him.

I know it’s Howlywood, where gossip is an industry… but I’m sure he’s all basset.

I spite of his name, he looks every inch the perfect purebred… which is considered rather un-PC to even mention nowadays.

And even if he weren’t, so what.

I’m glad that breed, like fur color, spay status,, original tail length and even sexual orientation, have become things that don’t matter, even if 100 years ago people whispered.

Strangely, almost ten years later the human poster was re-used for a completely different film… with a different leading man.

I’m pretty sure I mentioned it last time this one was in town, as well.

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-r-WNnaHnVf0/VDgZpqt1diI/AAAAAAAAOn4/v4KrXfdeK-8/s1600/1933%2Bsilent%2Bmen.jpg

It’s got me wondering whether the two men were identical!

Humans are so hard to tell apart, you know…. though they say a human mother can always recognize her own offspring.

BTW, Stel….

I wish the humans had followed your lead, instead of giving them weapons.

I guess they didn’t think it was “Old West” enough, or it doesn’t sell enough promotional cap guns or something…

But I think it’s much better for pups to run around with dog biscuits than guns!

I know Cleo is fond of bombs and bazookas….

but she’s a baaad influence on impressionable puppies.

Maybe Tom Mixbasset was more sensible.

Why would I read a flapjack recipe in a cooking comic?
I had my grandmother’s pancake recipe, and watched western movies.

AN ARTICLE…..     and a recipe…..

They are Scottish style flapjacks, also eaten in England.

Flapjacks there are not pancakes, but a short of chewy bar cookies, made of oats, butter, sugar and golden syrup, pressed into a pan and baked.

The ones in Alexi’s cartoon recipe and maybe the ones in the photo are apparently cut apart like brownies…

The ones I’ve eaten had raisins in them, and were baked much thicker, and sliced while hot.

Once the dough cools you can’t slice them.

Re extra one:

A large part of its text-to-voice narration comes from     THIS WIKIPEDIA ARTICLE.     I did not look for where the rest came from.
Simply from the established facts of his life, I don’t think I would have chosen him as a friend (it’s just an intuition I have of his character as I see it / no other explanation possible).

wasn’t stel in tigressy’s movie? ”candice gerard”. she had no actress playing her, but she was the reason for the movie. loved henry mancini’s score in the james garner version.
