My absolutely favourite ABBA video.

I’m not sure if the photography is in part “artistic” (focus varies throughout) or just bad uploading, but even if it is bad uploading, you get the mind picture you’re meant to and when the picture varies back to sharp it’s even better.

“Goatsucker”
The Common Nighthawk is a common summer resident throughout Florida. This species is most active during the early daylight hours and in the late afternoon … The Common Nighthawk is sometimes called a “bull-bat”, due to its perceived “bat-like” flight … Another name is “goatsucker”, from an archaic, erroneous idea that the birds would fly into barns at night and suck dry the teats of goats.

That is one funky-looking bird. The patterns and coloration make it look like a lizard. Then it takes off and flies almost noiselessly, so that some liken it to a bat in flight. Quite the namesake.

Funny – the German name is “Ziegenmelker” which has approximately the same meaning as “goatsucker”.

Happy, happy, happy!!!
I got to se the Lesser Nighthawk a lot in Arizona.
They are quite agile. They would fly above bright lights at night eating moths dnd i couldn’t help but watch them. Amazing birds.

We saw them once in MI. We had a swarm show up just before sundown and put on an amazing aerial ballet while scarfing down mosquitos. It was wonderous to see a bird over twice the size of a swallow performing very similar maneuvers.

When I did my ornithology the group (Caprimulgiformes) rejoiced in the name “Goatsuckers and Oilbirds.” Today they also include nightjars, nighthawks, potoos, frogmouths, and owlet-frogmouths. (Had to look that last bit up.)

Perro continues to persistently, proficiently, and pedantically pursue the pesky pussilanimous
profiteers; pursuant to his profound plan to end the population’s practical prudent
parsimony by packing their purses with pesos wrongfully purloined from their pockets.

I prognosticate my pleasurable use of “p” words is in peril of ending.

¡Hola Cleomigos y Cleomigas!

Perro RIDES!

OK… sigh…. you’re right…. we don’t see him riding…. but he had to ride to get there, didn’t he?
In any case… figuratively… he rides.

He rides to save the poor and disenfranchised… whose franchises are being dissed at this very moment, as we watch!

Get ’em, Perro!

Obviously, he has been practicing with the bullwhip.

(Back at the hacienda, Fernando wishes that practice had come a little sooner in the tale.)

“Destituto” indeed… even if it doesn’t actually mean anything in Spanish… we get the idea.

And the idea is that 9 pesos was a large chunk of change in…. um… in whatever year this is set…. and very necessary, to a poor family.

Sadly, had Señor Destituto saved his pesos…not even considering the devaluations in between…

Today’s peso is worth less than a US nickel.

The problem is, or one problem is, it’s a little girl, not a woman.

Another problem is, … it’s a real photo, not a “puzzle” per se like the ones we’ve been doing, or a drawing, like the Camels “lady” … which the company has always denied exists, even though it’s clear.

And the kid is very small, and mostly hidden.

I was just looking for it online when I refreshed and saw Alexikakos’ post.

That shows it pretty well…

I did find a slightly bigger one but it won’t open full size in the comments.

comment image

You can right click it to open it in another window at full size… but you still won’t see the girl unless she’s pointed out.

For that, check out the Sun article Alexi posted.

I cannot get the “full opening” effect,” but click on the link for the “solution.”
It’s not so much of a puzzle as it is poor resolution of the photograph.

Well, happy birthday   !  !  !

Given your “Yoda’s Lament” meme below, just don’t become as brittle as this peanut brittle.

I testify to its goodness.

From: “Woman’s Day Collector’s Cook Book (revised and enlarged)
Published by: Simon and Schuster, New York
SBN: 671-21986-3

“Peanut Brittle”

A light, porous brittle.

1 cup light corn syrup
1 cup sugar
1 tablespoon margarine (I use butter)
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 cups raw Spanish peanuts (see Note)
1 teaspoon baking soda

Put first 4 ingredients in saucepan over medium heat and stir until sugar is dissolved.
Add peanuts and cook, stirring 15 to 20 minutes, or until peanuts are a light golden brown (296° F. on candy thermometer).
Remove from heat and stir in soda (mixture will foam). Spread quickly on well-greased baking sheet.
When cool break in pieces. Makes about 1 1/2 pounds.

Note Raw (unroasted) peanuts are available in nut shops, health-food stores and occasionally in supermarkets.

All too correct about FB, I don’t do anything there as to socialization, I’m on there just to be visible to an estranged grandson when that time comes…
As for Steve, he doesn’t publish there regularly, kind of hit and miss (still), so I don’t know if it would work out in something like this format here. Steve’s comics are interesting, but I don’t think he is seeing the tangible results.

I get my first one tomorrow too!

Though I think not till some hours after you, Plods…. early evening, Pacific time.

A nice birthday present, right?

I can’t wait till this craziness is over, and everybody is safe… though there are some people who can’t have the vaccine, mostly due to medical issues…. and some (fools, IMHO) who _could,_ turning it down.

But at least we’ll hopefully get to “reasonably safe.”
