I’m not sure if the photography is in part “artistic” (focus varies throughout) or just bad uploading, but even if it is bad uploading, you get the mind picture you’re meant to and when the picture varies back to sharp it’s even better.
“Goatsucker”
The Common Nighthawk is a common summer resident throughout Florida. This species is most active during the early daylight hours and in the late afternoon … The Common Nighthawk is sometimes called a “bull-bat”, due to its perceived “bat-like” flight … Another name is “goatsucker”, from an archaic, erroneous idea that the birds would fly into barns at night and suck dry the teats of goats.
That is one funky-looking bird. The patterns and coloration make it look like a lizard. Then it takes off and flies almost noiselessly, so that some liken it to a bat in flight. Quite the namesake.
Happy, happy, happy!!!
I got to se the Lesser Nighthawk a lot in Arizona.
They are quite agile. They would fly above bright lights at night eating moths dnd i couldn’t help but watch them. Amazing birds.
We saw them once in MI. We had a swarm show up just before sundown and put on an amazing aerial ballet while scarfing down mosquitos. It was wonderous to see a bird over twice the size of a swallow performing very similar maneuvers.
When I did my ornithology the group (Caprimulgiformes) rejoiced in the name “Goatsuckers and Oilbirds.” Today they also include nightjars, nighthawks, potoos, frogmouths, and owlet-frogmouths. (Had to look that last bit up.)
Perro continues to persistently, proficiently, and pedantically pursue the pesky pussilanimous
profiteers; pursuant to his profound plan to end the population’s practical prudent
parsimony by packing their purses with pesos wrongfully purloined from their pockets.
I prognosticate my pleasurable use of “p” words is in peril of ending.
I was hoping somebody would find her for me in the rock formation…..

posting a puzzle–I found the puzzle , but not the solution
The problem is, or one problem is, it’s a little girl, not a woman.
Another problem is, … it’s a real photo, not a “puzzle” per se like the ones we’ve been doing, or a drawing, like the Camels “lady” … which the company has always denied exists, even though it’s clear.
And the kid is very small, and mostly hidden.
I was just looking for it online when I refreshed and saw Alexikakos’ post.
That shows it pretty well…
I did find a slightly bigger one but it won’t open full size in the comments.
You can right click it to open it in another window at full size… but you still won’t see the girl unless she’s pointed out.
I cannot get the “full opening” effect,” but click on the link for the “solution.”
It’s not so much of a puzzle as it is poor resolution of the photograph.
Given your “Yoda’s Lament” meme below, just don’t become as brittle as this peanut brittle.
I testify to its goodness.

“Peanut Brittle”
A light, porous brittle.
1 cup light corn syrup
1 cup sugar
1 tablespoon margarine (I use butter)
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 cups raw Spanish peanuts (see Note)
1 teaspoon baking soda
Put first 4 ingredients in saucepan over medium heat and stir until sugar is dissolved.
Add peanuts and cook, stirring 15 to 20 minutes, or until peanuts are a light golden brown (296° F. on candy thermometer).
Remove from heat and stir in soda (mixture will foam). Spread quickly on well-greased baking sheet.
When cool break in pieces. Makes about 1 1/2 pounds.
Note Raw (unroasted) peanuts are available in nut shops, health-food stores and occasionally in supermarkets.
All too correct about FB, I don’t do anything there as to socialization, I’m on there just to be visible to an estranged grandson when that time comes…
As for Steve, he doesn’t publish there regularly, kind of hit and miss (still), so I don’t know if it would work out in something like this format here. Steve’s comics are interesting, but I don’t think he is seeing the tangible results.
Though I think not till some hours after you, Plods…. early evening, Pacific time.
A nice birthday present, right?
I can’t wait till this craziness is over, and everybody is safe… though there are some people who can’t have the vaccine, mostly due to medical issues…. and some (fools, IMHO) who _could,_ turning it down.
But at least we’ll hopefully get to “reasonably safe.”
I got mine on the 26th. Second coming up on the 16th. Hubby’s first was last Friday. His second on the 26th, By mid-April we’ll be good to go! Not that we’re going much or far, just that we’ll be able to.
You can tell I’m getting old by the enjoyment I’m getting from the Betty Hutton song Nighthawks posted. I’m still dancing and swinging my finger in the air.
My absolutely favourite ABBA video.

So, Nighthawks, is your alias Goatsucker?
apparently……the goatsucker is kind of a bad-ass bird.
I don’t shy away from the name, even though I didn’t have goat teats in mind
when I adopted it
Really??? 🤣🤣🤣
Funny – the German name is “Ziegenmelker” which has approximately the same meaning as “goatsucker”.
Happy, happy, happy!!!

I can’t remember the last time I sucked a goat dry
I may be an Ole Scalawag, but I’ll NEVER be an Ole Goatsucker.
well, there’s something to hang your hat on
I’m sorry for that…
who says you can’t learn something at cleoandcompany.net?
The only Nighthawk we see flying around here this time of the year are the ones belonging to the National Guard. WooHoo!
When I did my ornithology the group (Caprimulgiformes) rejoiced in the name “Goatsuckers and Oilbirds.” Today they also include nightjars, nighthawks, potoos, frogmouths, and owlet-frogmouths. (Had to look that last bit up.)
You left out the potty-mouth snark.
That was synonomized with Turdud migratorius (the floating crap game…)

A rhyme walks into a bar…

¡Hola Cleomigos y Cleomigas!
Perro RIDES!
OK… sigh…. you’re right…. we don’t see him riding…. but he had to ride to get there, didn’t he?
In any case… figuratively… he rides.
He rides to save the poor and disenfranchised… whose franchises are being dissed at this very moment, as we watch!
Get ’em, Perro!
Obviously, he has been practicing with the bullwhip.
(Back at the hacienda, Fernando wishes that practice had come a little sooner in the tale.)
“Destituto” indeed… even if it doesn’t actually mean anything in Spanish… we get the idea.
And the idea is that 9 pesos was a large chunk of change in…. um… in whatever year this is set…. and very necessary, to a poor family.
Sadly, had Señor Destituto saved his pesos…not even considering the devaluations in between…
Today’s peso is worth less than a US nickel.
Comforting the afflicted by afflicting the comfortable. Beware the mark of Perro!
I like chicken tenders.
Have no fear, Captain Chaos is here.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, PLODS!
Happy birthday, Plods. Here’s to another year!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Plods!
In honor of you’re special day, I’ll send over some snow. We haven’t had any for weeks, so it really makes your day special.
Um….. no snow, but thanks for the thought.
hey wait, I missed that. today is the old part’s b-day?
well, NOW we can post birthday greetings!
🎵 🎵 HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU 🎵🎵 Have a fun and wonderful day. 🎈🎈🎈
Wishing you the very best, Plods!

Candi and Max
I do a pretty good impression of that…
And there’s this:
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, PLODS!
They apparently don’t let me have formatting on my tablet…
I gotta get on my computer, and I’ll be back!
Happy Birthday Plods!
I’m sorry I lost my original note… so this is late…
but I hope you like it… a cake like this takes a while to… um… bake… you know…
A birthday cake for Plods, everybody… Enjoy!
That looks to me like a cake that can bake itself.
And dinner for two at the Tiki, of course… if you need to bring a couple more, let me know…
and a round of beverages… pus refreshments and cake, for everybody!
Happy Birthday, Plods!
Saw this on the March 9 Cleo and came back. Hope that you had a wonderful day.
Spreadin the love
isn’t this cool, posting the actual cartoon as opposed to posting a non-clickable link?
Thanks, OPP. I was wondering where Steve went, I had forgotten he had a Facebook page for Girth.
I’m hoping to convince him to get a page like this. Not everyone does FB

Before GC scrapped Sherpa, he was talking about a MWF format.
Happy Dance
Getting my first jab tomorrow!
Mine is on the 24th of this month and my second on May 1st, all being well.
gettin’ my last jab in 4 hours
We had our 2nd jab on Thursday. Freedom in 2 weeks! (kinda)
Got both of mine….it is such a relief. Thankful I managed to go a year without getting the virus…..wasn’t an easy year.
I get my first one tomorrow too!
Though I think not till some hours after you, Plods…. early evening, Pacific time.

Dang, I’m old. Sorry, had to.
At least your grammar’s fine.
Yay! Our Hero is making an appearance!!! He came to save the day! Pedro can feed his family. WooHoo!
You can tell I’m getting old by the enjoyment I’m getting from the Betty Hutton song Nighthawks posted. I’m still dancing and swinging my finger in the air.

Perro to the rescue!! Pretty good whip work.
My D-I-L just sent me this perfect Bday picture for me
