This is actually from a well-preserved Roman mosaic floor dating to the 3rd century AD, in Negrar di Valpolicella, about 68 miles west of Venice.

It was buried underneath a vineyard, and wasn’t discovered until May, 2020, even though the site had already been searched for about a hundred years, combing for evidence of a long-lost villa.

The naturalness and shading of the figure on the right looks, to my untrained eyes, more “modern” than some much later medieval paintings.

We had one like this, and I could be wrong, but I don’t think it was the same one, cos I remember AI mistakes that I don’t see here… like a couple of people not really holding their drinks realistically.

And I think Carrie Fisher had a beer in her hand, and she’s only 19. Not that the AI police are going to come bust her.

This is just for fun… But AI does get scarily better every day.
Soon photos won’t be admissible evidence in trials, and probably not proof of ID.

It was a different one (Chewie was at the back), but the Enterprise lot are still wearing the wrong shirts (TOS) for the time period.

I like it. Like how it looks like she is standing on a stage.

It’s a famous painting.

Degas is most known for his paintings of ballerinas…

But this is “The Singer in Green”, in colored pastel on blue paper, from 1884.

The singer is supposedly not some famous diva, but a young, working class girl whom he watched sing some bawdy songs in a night club.

It’s in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

I scored five “No’s” What does that make me?

It makes you …. 2 points ahead of me.

Or behind me, depending on in which direction it should be counted..

I only found 3.

And really, even those are because of the way they were stated…

I have listened to a Walkman… but it wasn’t mine and I didn’t rock it like a rebel…

And I owned a boombox, but I neither carried it on my shoulder nor “blasted tunes” from it, like some wannabe Radio Raheem.

The only one on the list I’ve actually never done is #12….record a mixtape from the radio. Or anywhere, actually.

I don’t know why they call it weird. It’s pretty normal.

I think what they’re really trying to say with all this is that I’m old. But I knew that already.

I got the same three. On #12, it would tough to know when a favorite song would come on. I did do a mix tape of various songs from records however.

Same as me, as I explained. Only because of the way they were said. Plus I got #12.

Many of these are worded very oddly. I scored one definite “no” for number 09. While I have listened to a boombox, it was not blasting nor on my shoulder. Numbers 12 and 13 each get a probable “yes.” I have recorded songs from the radio, (but not for a mixtape), and I have rented VHS movies at Blockbuster, but have no idea what days of the week I did it. Friday is at least as likely as any other day.

Only #9 elicited a No for me. I couldn’t afford a boom box back then. The struggles of the early 70’s…

I was about to give up, and say I was no match for this…. especially without an image to match.

But I think I found a match anyhow…

It doesn’t totally match my idea of a matchstick … but you can’t always find a match made in heaven.

So… did you find a matchstick…

….that matches this?

The tires were a great idea… I dunno what they would have done otherwise to not wreck the hulls.

I was making an exhibition of myself again yesterday. I had been booked to take along a small 009 layout, but had been phoned by the organiser on Friday morning asking me if I could possibly take along my O scale layout ‘Saxham St Sidings’ as the O scale layouts that were meant to be there had had to cancel. So instead of an easy day watching trains running, I had to actually be on my feet all day and operate the shunting layout. It was a tiring day.

This was the layout that was originally booked for the show, ‘Beckland End’, 009 scale, 2′ square and housed in a ‘CD200’ case. 009 (4mm scale on 9mm track) is the UK equivalent to the US H0n30, or Continental H0e (3.5mm scale on 9mm track).

I know some people don’t like it…. but I celebrate this day every year…

I tend to run late… Fall asleep late, wake up late, and end up doing things late… So I love the later sunsets of summer, and that they get a boost every spring from the time change … though I’d like it to be year round.

Happy Daylight Saving Time…

to my Cleo pals in the Western Hemisphere!

I know in the UK and Europe, you have to wait a few more weeks…
but at least we’re all heading towards warmer weather and longer days. Enjoy!

Everybody tries to make that sound evil.
They don’t mention that you only borrowed it, and I’ll get it back in November.

I’m quite happy to leave it with you till then, in exchange for later sunsets…
In fact, you can keep it, if I get to keep the extra light.

It’s totally worth it, if I never have to go back to it being dark by 4:30pm in midwinter.

I’ve given hours of my life for so many things that weren’t worth it….illness, work, sadness, etc.

Permanent DST would be a much better trade. After all, it’s not like you get to save all your.hours for just things you like. You spend them all till you run out.
