It’s in a much better resolution.
I once ate at an “Automat” while on a school trip to New York. The novelty of it was fun, but I didn’t think much of the food.
Can anyone identify the product advertised on the billboard above the Pepsi one?
My searches for “Follow the Parade” / “Make Mine RUP…? The Mellow…? get no response from Google.
I have a hunch that the sign is for Ruppert Knickerbocker Beer, which was very well known and a best-selling beer in New York and the Northeast. (and, yes…it’s spelled with 2 “p’s”).
And, that, as already stated, is Times Square, where there was Pepsi AND Ruppert Knickerbocker signs in that time frame.
(this photo shows a different version of the Ruppert sign, probably taken within a year or two of the one posted by Nighthawks)
You have to like their philosophy and sense of humour too. LINK The advertisement at the link can be zoomed up to complete legibility.
From other sources, this was apparently a response to the prohibitionist faction of the U.S. population. The prohibitionists got their way in upon ratification of the Volstead Act in 1919. until 1932 when that act was repealed.
The one the woman is wearing in the foreground… and yeah, probably not exactly that one.
There were lots in that style, from the very late 1930’s till almost WWII… They started to get a little wider and heavier by then…. and were driven completely out of style by the postwar “New Look.”
But mine was exactly that length and silhouette… A soft-woven, burgundy wool and mohair fabric with (sorry) real fur collar, cuffs, and front trim… not sure what kind, but short, soft wavy fur, and a bit fragile.
Same little pocket flaps at the hip, and tiny gathers in the sleeve top.
…
It was one of my favorite garments ever, and between its original owner and me, we wore it threadbare and then some.
I’ve always thought that about 1938-42 offered the prettiest, most flattering and wearable women’s clothes of the 20th and 21st (so far) centuries.
I believe that the conclusion to “Murder on the Midnight Express” will be on FRIDAY, and NOT tomorrow since Nighthawks hasn’t notified me of any change of schedule.
I love everything about this performance of The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. The wa-wa lady, the soprano, the sexy conductor, the close ups of the earnest performers. Plus the hanged guy who appears from time to time.
I love that staged song with Dick Van Dyke. The young lady is a marvelous singer, and it’s wise to let her carry the tune while DVD vamps and counterpunches. He looks like he’s been through a grinder, but he can still hit the notes and the marks.
For any of you kids out there who don’t know, Dick Van Dyke was a major star at one time, both on Broadway and in Hollywood, movies AND TV. The man was a quadruple threat. He could sing exceptionally well, dance passably well, and act! Plus, he could be funny! He originated the role of Albert Peterson – the real star of Bye Bye Birdie – rather than the eponymous Conrad Birdie.
Don’t try to catch all the rustlers at the same time!
The Russells rustle the most… they ride in at dawn from the east just as the Leaves ride off to the West.
The right time to hustle is right when you hear that the Leaves have left on the left. Only the right rustlers…the Russells …will be left, on the right.
Do the right thing before they leave, if you want any cattle left!
well, our oldest kid’s (57!!!) visit ended yesterday when he flew home to Raleigh. it was a wonderful visit! and now i get to enjoy all the gardening he did, and the firewood he split, and the soups he made for the freezer. what a treat.
.
Can anyone read the badge under the radiator cap? Please and thank you.

Nighthawks preferred to keep that part out.

The other two videos are good too. Somebody is into Cat Stevens!
it’s a favorite of mine as well.
The parrot version of “Got your nose!”

Happy Hump Day to you, Plods!!!!
good luck at the doctors appointments!
I shouldn’t be up now, but my hours got mixed up, and I fell asleep when I usually post…
Before I go back to sleep…
Just on the off chance anybody still wants to read them…..or ever did…
I also left several replies on yesterday’s page, right after this one was posted…..
Including some stuff about root beer, and a longer-than-he-probably-expected reply to Happy³’s question about those little purses.
…
And if anybody reads lips better than I do…. Do you know what Mary Pickford is saying in that .gif, before it makes me crazy?
Ok, yeah, I know… crazier
Thank you. 🙂
