Well, young basset! What do you have to say for yourself?

Yep. Ballet dancer’s feet. Toe shoes and en pointe dancing are killers.

One year long ago, I had a calendar that featured a photograph.each month of a different well-known ballerina’s shoes.

There was a paragraph accompanying each picture, with each dancer talking about her own.

It showed the incredible amount of work most of them do, even after having them made to order… They still have to personalize the fit, break them in, pad certain places, and stitch on elastic bands like the criss-crossed ones on the one shown above.

The ones that have been worn for a while have rips and tears, with complicated repairs and tape, rosin and powder applied.

They talked about buying them, whether they liked blocked toes, lambswool, ways of tying them, etc.

Actually, I think the calendar may have been exerpts from a coffee-table type book.

A pretty esoteric subject, but I loved the ballet, and I thought it was fascinating.

Funny, you usually get the actors and have to guess at the characters and film.

Interesting to get the characters instead.

I know almost all the actors… A couple of the movie titles are eluding me at the moment.

I thought it was a nice touch to include HAL.

And is it too late to mention that they’re ten feet long? Standing up like that they’d be at most three feet tall…

I have been privileged to watch them fly directly over my head, low enough that I could see helmeted pilots flying them, as they were practicing for a July 4 show at the San Diego navy base. We were standing on top of a hill at the edge of the base, on their approach path to the scene of the action.

Are you assuming that everyone already knows the actors?

THEY ARE
Harrison Ford and Sean Connery (L-R).

As the whole thing is a posted image, you can’t actually interact with it to ‘select’ the answer.

This type of puzzle is only really a challenge to those who grew up without analogue clocks being the mainstay of displaying the time.

I’m asking the same thing… is there a trick?

Otherwise, why wouldn’t it be the completely obvious answer?

“…in the sequence.”
There are two possible answers, in my mind. That phrase is the key, i think.

Please….What besides 4?

Yes, I know, I’m “spoiling” it… But it’s not even a puzzle to me, and several others.

I don’t want you to not answer because you can’t do spoilers, and you’ve never updated your email address with me.

I’d like to know what anybody thinks is a different answer, so I know what I’m not seeing.

3:30 comes before 4:00, but it’s not part of the sequence.

Thanks… I see.

It is indeed the next “clock time” you could choose, if that’s what you’re going for.

It’s true that they didn’t define.their terms .

To me, the word “sequence” indicates a math problem.

It means you do the same thing to each entry to get the next entry… Which in this case, is “add one to the current entry”….. leading to 4:00.

But if to you it means simply “what time comes next?” then that would be 3:30.

Once again @ Everybody

Everybody here likes dogs and cats and this episode of      UNDER THE INFLUENCE      describes some of the advertising campaigns that pet supply/food companies have done in conjunction with pet shelters to get “forever homes” for their residents (some are really imaginative / and at least one went world-wide after beginning in New Zealand ).
Dolly Parton also has a role in getting pets adopted (listen to the “fun fact” at the end of the episode too),
Take the 27 minutes it takes to listen and you will not be disappointed.

@ â€”comment image    nighthawks

Is there any way you can talk to WordPress about getting rid all of its useless postings (and there are many of them) and then blocking the      SITE      from posting again?

I use the February 25, 2021 “Cleo and Company” as a test site for some of my comments.
The site started showing up in October of 2024 there, and it has spread all over the early posting dates since then.
The latest I know of is December 21, 2022 because I stopped trying to find out where they stopped at that point.

They’re not all one site… they’re all posted by spambots and lead to different sites.

NEVER CLICK THEM TO SEE WHERE THEY GO!

Those sites will try to install data miners and other malignant software. Luckily they’re slow to catch up with current pages…. So as you go back to older pages, you see more and more of them.

You can’t find the end of them because more are posted all the time.

They’re called trackbacks, and supposedly the blog owner can block them… I was going to talk to Nighthawks about it, but then i recently read that what I’d learned before doesn’t work.

I started reading about it again but got terribly distracted by recent events. I’ll get back to it.

Meanwhile they can’t do anything if you don’t click them.. they’re just a nuisance.

….

I’m not sure why you say you can’t post there .. I just did, on the page you linked. After a refresh my comment is at the bottom, at the end of the bot posts, on page two.

Actually, there are legitimate trackbacks… Some blogs use them to show pages to their followers, but these days I wouldn’t touch any of them

It’s not that I cannot post, it’s the fact that I now have to go back to page one if I want to test the posting of one of my answers if it contains a link, or a spoiler box (some sites do not permit their contents to be linked / and I like to check my spoiler boxes to make sure I haven’t inadvertently revealed the box’s contents).
I find it really annoying to have to do that,
More importantly I think WordPress has an obligation to nighthawks to keep the site he’s paying for clear of garbage like that.

WordPress can’t do that.

They’re all, in the eyes of the computers, just different posts from different users.

They don’t have a list of spam bots or spam sites… it would have to be updated constantly. The second you ban one another is formed.

If they ban the Iinks, we couldn’t post any either, or images. That’s what GoComics did.

They leave it up to individual blog owners to ban trackbacks, because some blogs use legitimate ones.

Theoretically, we could get a legitimate one here, from a site like ComicIDontUnderstand, or Lembieks.

BTW, I usually just test my links right here, and delete or edit if there’s a problem.

That is an unusual skill to have mastered, plus he is ambidextrous. The trick is helped by the fish-eye lens that makes it look further away than it really is, but a flashy trick all the same.
