I cannot say I wasn’t influenced by my mother’s almost disdain for Marlon Brando (reasons unknown to me), but after reading     THIS ESSAY FROM “THE NEW YORKER”,     I can only say her reasons were accurate.

Marlon Brando?

By Cecil Beaton, no less, in 1948, when Brando was 24, and usually looked quite different.

I know the video is scripted, but I don’t like the script.

I always liked this song, or rather the sound of it (I never could make out the words). I love the inclusion of violins or fiddles in rock music.

The three of us had one to share.

Somehow my parents thought that made sense.

Interesting to have the drummer as lead singer. Of course it is all lip-synched.

I didn’t know what you were talking about at first because only one strip showed up on my computer. Susan informed me that there were two copies up there. I know that Nighthawks had some problems posting tonight, so it probably was another WP glitch.

I was just able to delete one of the strips so everything should be A-OK now.

This is what both Liverlips and myself are seeing (I shrunk it so it could all be snipped).

LOL… I was referring to the fact that Nighthawks had double posted today’s comic.

It’s still double right now… but may be fixed by the time you see this reply…

In which case it won’t just be you…. nobody will know what I meant. πŸ™ƒ

I love the great respect the Danish Symphony brings to the music of Ennio Morricone. Very faithfully rendered.

I already posted my bit about Charles Lindbergh another time, and the things that have come to light about him, mostly in the 21st century.

An anti-Semitic Nazi sympathizer, and a believer in eugenics, who secretly fathered children with multiple German women, in order to spread his good genes, he is no longer a hero to me.

These things are not rumors, but things he and his wife, Anne Morrow Lindbergh, wrote about, though Anne didn’t know about the children, who only found out as adults that he was their father.

I know he did lots of “heroic” things.

But knowing that somebody hates you, sight unseen, and thinks you deserve to die, or at least lose everything, because he thinks you belong to an inferior race..

that he only mildly chastised Hitler for killing your great grandparents and all their relatives (he thought the death camps “might” be an extreme solution to the “Jewish problem”)

while believing himself the perfect example of manhood…

It all kinda makes it hard to appreciate glowing newspaper reports of his accomplishments.

….

I don’t think I could admire sweet portraits of Adolf with his beloved dogs, either.

It would seem creepy, knowing that he butchered humans.

Lindbergh isn’t quite on that level, but to me, he’s not lovable or even forgivable.
