From the picture book “Tuesday” “written” (there’s time stamps) by David Wiesner (his illustrations throughout) it’s the last picture in the book after the time stamp “NEXT TUESDAY, 7:58 P.M.”.
Nine more Songs About Kentucky, one’s about the Derby’s roses, in no particular order.
Among the artists are Elvis, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, and Emmy Lou Harris.
And just how cold is it? We are going to be 82 degrees today and 51 degrees tomorrow ~ with thunderstorms. Hard to keep up with the weather these days.
My grandson is in kentucky to visit some friends. I’m sure he really went for the Houndtucky Derby. I will have to ask him for details and Basset tales.
Can we come over without a hat? I’m not really a hat person. Would hate to miss out on the mint tulips and Hot Brown kibble!!
It’s fun when we dress up and wear hats, but I certainly don’t have any rules… I’m not really the rules type.
Besides, my “dressing up” isn’t exactly designer fashion anyway…. And that’s an understatement.
….
It’s not winter cold, just rather cold for tomatoes, which like warm roots.
The weather forecast, not just the weather itself, changes multiple times per day lately… When I wrote the above post at 4am it was 42° and predicted to be in the mid 50s today, and all week in the daytime, with lows in the low 40s.
11 hours later they’re saying it’s actually 60° now, and most of the week will be 62-ish. Not warm but a lot warmer than the predicted 55!
Besides, in California, we think 40 is freezing, even though we’ve had a lot of actual freezing here this winter. And this is northern California. In LA, as you know, freezing takes place at around 50°.
We’re also supposed to be getting showers every day this week that were not predicted then.
What good is a weather forecast that’s inaccurate twice a day, never mind next week?
I think Mother Nature waits until the weatherman gives his report and then changes everything. Yes, when I lived in sunny Southern California, 40 degrees was freezing!! I still remember when we went to Idaho to spend Christmas with our daughter and the car temperature indicator said ‘0’ degrees. I was fascinated. It’s not so fascinating now that we live here.
It is.
The poor guy was driven down because of type casting.
His first role was written in such an obscene manner every word of his lines were bleeped on screen; so future casting agents didn’t think he would be plausible in roles such as Data from the Star Trek franchise.
Love those Basset Hound Races!
I remember these. The dogs are great, but the track announcer is even better.

thanks alexi. earworms for today!
WOW ! ! !
Thanks.
Now I have to go back to the others you’ve recently posted that I made a mental note to “read later.”
…
And that is her come hither look.
Oh my goodness!
Its already time for the Houndtucky Derby!
The weather has been so cold here, except for one short week towards the end of April, you could almost forget it’s May.
Usually in early April I’m resisting planting tomatoes, because they do better later.
But this year it hasn’t occurred to me to even look at seedlings… In fact it feels impossible to put their poor toes in the ground.
I need the Houndtucky Derby to remind me that we’re actually deep into Spring… and summer is really on the way!
Yay for flowered hats and spring dresses… it’s been such a long winter!
I hope I don’t need a heavy sweater on Saturday.
…
The hat on the poster is beautiful….
Our friend Bev had one kind of like that… do you remember, Stel?
I think she bought it from a famous basset millineress.
My hat size is bigger than the largest basset size, so I can’t find one quite so pretty for myself.
…
Nonetheless… I’ll dig out my nicest one, to wear on Derby Day, and stream the race…
I may not be going to Houndtucky, but once again, I’ll make some mint tulips and Hot Brown kibble…
,
Anybody want to come over this year?
Sign me up.
sounds great!
