At one time was thought that it was best if you were thrown from the vehicle in a crash.

My brother was thrown from a car in an accident, when he was about 16, and lived, while the driver died.

He refused to believe in seat belts after that… and eventually let his first two kids roam loose inside their VW bus on the freeway, as soon as they outgrew their toddler car seats.

I kept hoping he’d get a seatbelt ticket before someone was injured, but he never did, and luckily, nobody was.

Not till his second wife and third child did he start to realize that you have to go with the statistics, not base everything on one random accident.

I had a friend back in Michigan who’s teenage daughter and three of her friends died from being thrown from the bed of a pick-up when a crashed into the side of it. The pick-up driver, who was bucked, had only minor injuries.

I’m betting that was even less fun than it looks like.

With a knick-knack, paddywhack, give the dog a bone.
This old man came rolling home.

This one, an Achrioptera fallax, appears at the 3 minute 21 second mark of this video.
It is one of two in the video native to Madagascar.

My sister let one of her kids keep a couple of stick bugs in an aquarium in their bedroom. One escaped and it must have been a girl bug because they kept finding little baby stick insects in their house from time to time after that. They would catch baby bug and put it out back before the cats found it.

A pure white one, maybe a little over half that size, which is still pretty darn big, got into my house a few years ago.

I’d never seen one around here, and haven’t since.

I’m not a big bug fan (sorry Steve, wherever you are… And where are you anyway?)

but there was no way I was going to harm this amazing creature.

I managed to shoo it outside somehow, and it just walked majestically away.

No, I’d rather not, thanks anyway.

And as I’ve said before…..you really don’t have to.
Honest.

Besides, stick insects don’t attack, bite or sting. They may look creepy, but they’re very polite.

You are absolutely right Susan, totally harmless. We used to pass them around for the little kids to handle (not to keep!) at open houses.

(sorry I’ve been AWOL, trying to get back on top of things.)

Wow. Someone appears to have initialed that fish. Isn’t there some sort of ordinance against defacing sea life?

NOT for scaredy-cat row…

Ah…. All those years of reading Little Lulu, and I still didn’t remember her name.

At least I’ve remembered Tubby and Wilbur for more decades than I care to admit.

I’ve never been to a Little Lulu website, nor read the strip since I was about 8, so those memories are pretty dusty.

Re: The Laura Branigan video.
I have only the vaguest memory of that song.
The “Them” (with Van Morrison singing) is the song titled Gloria that comes to mind for me.

Back in whatever year Hurricane Gloria came up the East Coast, as it was pelting New England, I cranked up the stereo to 11 and put on that Laura Branigan song.

This one just looks good.
Piccalilli is a mustard pickle vegetable mix with many variations.
I got this from London’s “Daily Mail”.

Use the mashed fruit of your choice (frozen would work, but I’d use fresh / jams and marmalades have too much moisture).

Coconut cream eggs with no coconut would just be cream eggs…

In this case, cream cheese frosting eggs.

First day of vacation. Planted 3 tomatoes, 2 hills of cucumbers (5 plants) 24 vinca, 32 begonias and 2 hanging baskets. Tomorrow I’ll wash curtains and dust covers. Wash windows inside and out.

The planting part sounds like a good vacation activity, but washing the windows? Whatever floats your boat, I guess.
