Soft, white “sugar cookies” with thick pink icing and, usually, colored sprinkles.
Horribly sweet.
I don’t know anyone who makes them like that at home….
But around here, you see them in almost every grocery store, commercially packaged and/or in the bakery department, looking exactly like the ones on that plate.
And so…. after a brief stop for taking on water and coal… but not letting off passengers! …. the Midnight Express is, once again, moving forward….
as we ride it through the next episode of…. this mystery train. Which episode?
I noticed, first, that it has no number…. then I realised ….
The last episode was #12.
In an old fashioned mystery, on an old fashioned train….
there’s probably no Compartment 13… or Car 13…
perhaps… (gasp!) there’s no Episode 13!
Or at least, it shall remain unenumerated.
….
Now we have Grace (what a face!), practically confessing to the murder….
But listen to her…. and look at those eyes… is she really the one hoo dunnit?
Or has she just…. been …. um… eating too many crazypickles?
Riding too long on the train to Luluville?
…
I don’t eat corn dogs (a girl’s gotta draw the line somewhere. )
But I’ve see them, and I’ve smelled them… there was a corn dog purveyor in the mall… and there’s a HUGE corn dog booth at the County Fair…. with a dozen or so varieties.
NOT ONE of those varieties is labelled “sacrilegious!”
And I’ve had many a jar of pickles.
There is, in fact, about half a jar of sweet gherkins on my refrigerator right now, plus a larger jar containing the last two of the dill pickles it held.
I have examined all those now-missing pickles carefully as I ate them…. bite by bite… but never once did I find surveillance gear!
In fact, I’d say pickles are singularly inattentive.
….
I think Grace just may have already slipped of the track a bit.
Is she going off the rails on a crazy train?? I have to agree with you about corn dogs ~ can’t stand them. Seems like it would be better to put surveillance gear in something inedible. We don’t really want to surveille someone’s innards.
Corn dogs are not sacrilgious.
They can get messy when wielded as a weapon however.

“ “DOGS IN BLANKETS” (Just another name for Corn Dogs)
A delectable main dish for a teen-age supper
8 skinless frankfurters
Flour
1/4 cup white cornmeal
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon soda (baking soda)
1egg (medium or large)
1/2 cup buttermilk
Fat for frying (part bacon, part lard)
Cocktail sauce, or catsup with prepared mustard, or tartar sauce.
Halve frankfurters crosswise and put wooden skewer in each.
Roll in flour and shake off excess.
Sift 1/2 cup flour and next 3 ingredients into bowl.
Add egg and buttermilk and beat with whisk or slotted spoon to form a smooth thick batter.
Holding skewer, dip frankfurter pieces in batter, coating well.
Drop into hot deep fat (375°F., to 400°F. on a frying thermometer) and fry until golden brown.
Drain on absorbent paper and serve at once with cocktail sauce.
Good with coleslaw, potato chips, sliced tomatoes and dill pickles, with a piece of pie or cake for dessert.
Makes 4 servings.
StelBel was kind enough to list my mother’s coleslaw recipe in her recipe collection at this LINK. It has been referenced before, but a good recipe collection is always fun to read. StelBel’s “Chicken,Shrimp,Ham and Sausage Filé Gumbo” is there too, remember.
already there. when you go to the blog, check the list on the sidebar. you’ll find
Cleo and Company as one of the choices. Teresa was kind enough to post
stuff.
this was from last Monday
Thank you, Rita! And many thanks from my husband for the compliments, too.
My husband takes these pictures and I post some of them here with his permission.
They need some cropping sometimes and resizing if too large.
This time I did not only crop the picture but also used “Enhance” to give it more depth – the background was too dominant before. I got lucky. 😉
That’s a male orange tip butterfly – I like the German name: Aurorafalter.

thanks. I knew I could count on you
Too much city for me.
I prefer trees and buildings not over two stories.
yeah, me too. this is like life on another planet to me
Whenever I’m in the ‘Big City’, I’m in awe of the big tall buildings ~ wouldn’t want to live there, though.

Oh wow… 25% off round trip tickets to to the Paris Exposition!
Let’s go!
…
All we have to do is get to within 500 kilometers, first….
And quickly, cos the sale is over after August 15th, and we want to have a few days at the exposition before our return trip…
Gosh, I wish we’d seen this sooner!
…..
Anybody know the way back to 1889?
,
Great photo. is the dog paying closer attention to the baby – or the cookies?
Cookies.
Rolls(?) with sausage.
Soft, white “sugar cookies” with thick pink icing and, usually, colored sprinkles.
Horribly sweet.

I love those, but I don’t dare buy them.
Absolutely precious! I sure would like to know what happens next.
Hopefully, mommy or daddy sees that plate, and says “Goodness, how did you get all those?”…
And puts them out of reach!
Then I wonder who would be crying louder, the baby or the dog.
naw. the doggie is just saying that these are Santa’s cookies. if you eat them, then you won’t get any presents!

Beautiful picture!
Closer to my kind of landscape, but still not quite there.
Love the bird.
,.
That is one horny toad.
Not beautiful…..
Wow, perfect camouflage.
My compliments to his tailor.
i was going to comment ”great camouflage”, …but you beat me to it.
(great minds….)
“Sacriligious corn dog” = redundant.
“Surveillance pickle” sounds like something out of Get Smart.

The strip’s name is train13.jpg
Yes… and if you’re counting, it’s obviously (shhh) (some people are superstitious…) the 13th strip, anyway, but I was referring to the episode title…
The label meant for people to see.
TBH… a few of other episodes are untitled too… I think the first one, and a couple of the animations.
…
But you see, I was making a joke… not being super literal.
And none of that fits.
oops!
never liked corn dogs, let alone sacrilegious ones.

You had me at Beethoven.
Has anyone let the good folks at FA that they have a role in this arc?
Would they care?
Perhaps, you might make The Frog Blog.

Cool!
nice!
Would be even better if she would post the address.
Maybe she has, or maybe she’s not allowed to on GoComics, even as a “creator”…
Unfortunately people don’t guess “.net” as often as “.com”.
…
I used to go there occasionally, and post it… when I was still doing that on other strips too…
But I only post “outside links” rarely now, on current strips, since their stupid new rules.
Dun dun dah…It’s Cliff….. Cliff Hanger
Good Monday morning Noir fans!
