an explanation of this final scene from HAIR in a YouTube comment by Janelle Scherbik:
“This is the saddest part of the movie knowing Berger was not trained for combat had no choice to march into that plane and into his fate. Bukowsky tried so hard to reach his friend before it was too late. Berger gave his life so his friend could see his girl. Also, the terrible situation in Vietnam in the late 1960s was not necessary for all those who died in Vietnam on both sides. Milos Forman gets an A+ job for this musical called HAIR.”
This trailer is 3 minutes 11 seconds of broken scenes from the movie.
I have never seen “Dawn Patrol,” but I think the trailer well captures the spirit of the film.
A quick perusal of the 1939 Academy awards ceremony says it, sadly, was skipped entirely.
It’s become too popular for scum to steal the unguarded boxes and too much of a covid risk (especially for veterans) to man the boxes in person. I still got my two which I will leave on my Father’s grave on the 16th (his birthday.)
I am in awe over today’s poster! And, especially, for the great finale to the Yankee Doodle Dandy movie. I know of no other film that thanks all our veterans for being Over There!!!
And to ALL our Vets for their service to our country!!! HAPPY VETERANS DAY!!!
Oh boy! Errol Flea, buckling swashes left and right; Davey Nivhound as a young pup; Sherlock, I mean, Basil Dogbone as the commanding officer caught twixt rock and hard place. Now that’s excitement!
I learned “In Flanders Field” back in Grade 6, in 1965, and here, now, 56 years later, I can still recite every word. And repeat with tears oft appearing. Thank you Miss Timms, you served my country and my classmates well.
And, Thank You to all those who made their sacrifice for us.
Here in Germany (Cologne, Mainz etc. specifically), 11.11 11:11 am is the beginning of Carnival season – the number 11 is “Elf” in German which abreviates “egalité, liberté, fraternité”; the mottos of the French Revolution.
To me, this is kind of scary, and I’m a Canadian.
I went looking out of morbid curiosity and found this.
I wonder how well publicised it is.
The United States draft isn’t quite as far away as you may think.
I’ve put the last update information and the penalty portion below this…
What Happens If You Don’t Register for Selective Service
If you are required to register and you don’t, you will not be eligible for federal student aid, federal job training, or a federal job. You may be prosecuted and face a
fine of up to $250,000 and/or jail time of up to five years. If you’re an immigrant to the U.S., you will not be eligible for citizenship.
If you never registered and are being denied federal student aid, job training, a federal job, or citizenship, you may still be able to get it. To do so, you must provide
evidence that you didn’t intentionally avoid registering.
the necessity for registering doesn’t mean that the draft is imminent.
Registering 18 year olds for the draft has been around since the nineties at least. They’re just covering their collective rear ends by wanting to have everything in place in the event of some kind of need for lotsa soldiers.
Like a war.
Selective Service never did go away. Having a Draft did. It makes no sense for a country to have a Draft (if needed) without having a list of people (Selective Service) from which to enable the Draft.
[original human version]
Errol Flea was so handsome, this poor human cannot hope to compete.
Why do they even keep trying?

An anthem in its time.

Poppy boxes are scarce this year.

Great compilation, Stel!
Dawg Patrol… it’s old but it still looks great.
You know, I’m not a big fan of war movies….
But this one has Errol Flea in it.
I mean… how could I resist?
And it’s another thing that reminds me of my Mom.
I think I’ve talked about our different tastes…
we didn’t agree on clothes, makeup, little things like that….
but especially men… and also dogs…. not that she really discussed that with me.
But I remember seeing this with her years ago, on television….. and her saying how much she liked Davey Nivhound…
I asked her her how she could even look at him when Errol Flea shared the screen.
“Errol Flea?” she said. “Oh no. He’s just not my type.”
Well, tell you what.
My mother can have Davey Nivhound….
I’ll take Errol Flea for a long walk any time.
Just look at those eyes…. and those ears….. sigh…
Besides… he was also Robin Hound.
In tights.
BTW… “Who the deuce can parley-voo a cow?”…
now that’s some great writin’, right there.
To all vets – thank you for your service.
Ambiguous as that is, I second it.
Just how is that “ambiguous”?
“Veteran” or “Veterinarian”.
Or Corvette?
hot fudge sundae
.
Great tribute, NH!

Good morning Dawg Philm phans!

For those across the pond…
Y’all hug a vet.
