You would have to go to Mamaris, Turkey to see this in real life.

Gives its target demographic (teenage boys, of course) a heroic fantasy to dream about…

and hopefully entice them to part with a precious dime.

More enticement, with comic book style hyperbole…

52 “big” pages… Which can be no bigger than the comic book size paper they’re printed on….

And “your own” “giant” calendar inside.

As if it wouldn’t be your own, once you buy it…

Or it’s gonna be any bigger than two of those pages.

Ok, maybe four of those comic book size pages… sigh….

I only know the “giant poster” I got from a teen magazine years ago was a two page center spread.

And when I took it out, it had staple holes in it.

Read the full comic     HERE.     As a side note, the cover has nothing whatever to do with the comic’s content.

Hey Kids!
The calendar insert from 1950 matches this year (2023).
Too bad our year is ending…

Well, i sure don’t want 2023 to last forever.

So far, it hasn’t been my favorite year, so I wouldn’t really ask it to stick around just so I can use up a Batman calendar.

Well, you probably were doing lot of reading.
Hard to remember everything.

I mean, you couldn’t walk yet, or drive, so you had to do something with all that idle time at home.

Try leaveing the rock bits that don’t look like Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt and Lincoln in a pile like that today; in fact try carving a mountain today.

I was thinking the same thing!

Wondering whether they die off, cand new ones grow, or the Park Service removes and replaces them, or maybe the altitude stunts them.

As tall as giant Sequoias.

The rise of the Johnny Cabs!

Today’s Songs:
1. ‘Walk On The Wild Side,’ 2. ‘Walk This Way,’ 3. ‘Walkin’ On the Sun,’ and 4. ‘Walking On Sunshine,’ and the ‘Cheap Thrills Cuisine’ recipe 5. ‘Canned Fruit Crumble.’
1. Ultimately very loosely based on a 1952 song ‘The Wild Side of Life’ as sung by country singer Hank Thompson and written by Reed for a musical that was never completed. It was considered very racy in the early 70’s. ‘The Wild Side of Life’ is below.
2. The song’s title was inspired by the movie ‘Young Frankenstein’ (the line is at the end of the clip below).
3. By ‘Smash Mouth’ guitarist, Greg Camp, it was written for reasons tied in to the Rodney King beating in 1991.
4. Its original release was in Canada despite the band being from England, and it grew from there.
5. Add up the can sizes if your shop doesn’t carry the sizes needed. My mother made a very good crumble mix.

I don’t know about Aerosmith but the line in Young Frankenstein is itself based on a joke that’s older than your grandfather.

There have been slight variations, for a hundred and fifty years or so 😁, but basically…

……

Guy goes into a pharmacy, and asks where to find the Vaseline…

The pharmacist walks out from behind the counter and says “Of course, sir. Just walk this way…”

Customer says… “If I could walk that way, I wouldn’t need Vaseline!”

This is funny but it points out a truth we may all have to live with, as AI and robots take over jobs from humans.

Machines, in spite of Sci Fi stories to the contrary, have no emotions. No empathy or remorse.

Blast you with a cannon for annoying it?
If someone was smart enough to build it and arm it with weapons, but too optimistic or careless to anticipate and program almost every possible scenario… why not?

Lost your keys, forgot your wallet, fell on the sidewalk, your back hurts… don’t expect sympathy if you can’t pay, or get up, or do whatever the robot is expecting you to do.

Unless the makers learn to program in some things like empathy, kindness, awareness of right and wrong…. and even a lot of specific sympathetic responses, it’s gonna be a cold, cold world.

We’ll be like that kitty up there with the statue children…
Expecting warmth and caring from something that only looks or sounds human.

Sorry I missed last night (of course you noticed) …. My Internet is now completely gone…
And so is my landline phone, which I get from the same company.

Don’t worry (you weren’t going to?)… someone is coming Saturday to hopefully fix it.

Meanwhile I have this phone. And most, but not all, of the time, even cell service.

Sigh…

I’m guessing your home is wired for fibre optic.
As I said last year, Telus wired (opticced?) my apartment for it last year.
What no telephone company is saying is that now your landline is subject to the vagaries of the power grid, and internet both. If one, the other, or both go out, you don’t have a land line anymore.
I discovered that fact when I did my usual complete shutdown of my computer before leaving for the day. When I checked in for messages, all I got was beeping on my cell.
Now I have one more electrical vampire adding to my electric bill.

No fiber within a mile of me

My neighborhood is on the outskirts of town, with, I’m told, not enough population to support re-wiring, not even with new copper.

Every ISP, including mine, resells DSL over the existing, ancient, phone company (AT&9T) copper lines. I picked the local company with the best deal.

If I were a few hundred yards closer to a fiber terminus I could get something called fiber to the node, which would hook me up with copper to the nearest fiber…

The company told me that could be coming closer, in the next few years, but it would cost more.

They charge the same for an actual fiber connection as what I pay now… but they said don’t hope for that in the foreseeable future.

I’m also just out of range of (Verizon) wireless service… Been on a waiting list for two years for when it gets closer, but I’d pay more and lose my cheap landline, so I might say no anyway.

What I hope is that a better future shows up that wasn’t foreseeable…

Or that I move.
