One of the many great moments I have personally witnessed on a baseball diamond was being in old Yankee Stadium when the Mick hit his 500th home run. Left-handed, into the right field seats, a classic Stadium job. I was a little boy, there by chance with my dad, and Mickey was my first real hero at that age. I was going nuts, jumping up and down. Even dad was happy, which was rare. MM got pretty excited too, causing him to make an error at first base that cost the Yankees the lead. But then he got the base hit to win the game. So all was right with the world for ten year old me.
The background has dots or bits that seem to make curves, but aren’t touching, so they’re not “lines”, per se.
…
The overlaid grid of green lines, if you focus carefully at close range, can be seen to be all straight.
The curved patterns and paths behind them create the illusion that they bend, but getting close and laying a ruler, or even a finger, alongside any of them will show you that it doesn’t.
…
I can’t find an actual line in the gray dots, or a curve anywhere in a green line.
I did a screen snip and opened that with Microsoft Snip and Scetch.
Opening and using the ruler, all line segments are straitght.
Another way to tell is to look at the intersections they are all right angles.
I still have my copy of “Jonathan Livingston Seagull.” I haven’ t read it in years, and it’s not on my reading list now, either. I can’t remember what it was that I read about Bach’s personal life in the late 1970’s, but it soured any enjoyment I had of the book. I’ve picked it up from time to time but have never gotten beyond the first few pages.
Today’s Songs:
1. ‘White Rabbit,’ 2. ‘White Room,’ 3. ‘White Wedding,’ and 4. ‘Whole Lotta Love,’ and the ‘Cheap Thrills Cuisine’ recipe Cauliflower Casserole.’
1. Grace Bennet Wing actually composed the song. She is now 84 years of age. Her now 52 year old daughter, China, appeared on the cover of she and Paul Kantner’s (father) , ‘Sunfighter’ album in 1971 pictured below. Move 20 years on, and think ‘Nirvana’.
2. I’d be willing to bet (not much by my definiton, mind you) that most of you will be hearing the third verse for the first time.
3. William Michael Albert Broad’s real life girlfriend at the time, Perri Lister, plays the bride. By Wikipedia, the barb wire ring and blood (at 1 minute 36 seconds) were real at her insistence. She and he have a son (they broke up in 1989).
4. There was an out of court settlement in 1985 in favour of songwriter Willie Dixon over its similarities to his ‘ You Need Love’ (recording by Muddy Waters bleow).
5. Make sure your oven is preheated, bake this on the second rack (top rack is first) and start checking at 40 minutes. It won’t hurt anything if the cauliflower isn’t completely softened.
Tigressy, thank you for that link.
I have watched two complete episodes now, and there won’t be a third. I suspect that even the first and second episodes would have gone in the same direction, and morality cartoons are just not my cup of tea.
But again, I do thank you for satisfying my curiosty.
I suppose my mind can almost accept that Grace Slick would be 84 by now…
But China Kantner is NOT allowed to be 52.
Actually she’s almost exactly the same age as my nephew, the first baby born to my siblings, and I’ve already told him he’s not allowed to set foot in his 50s either.
You know they’re only doing it to make me look old.
Broken into small florets and baked for an hour, you do not need to parboil the life out of that poor cauliflower first, and throw all the flavor and nutrients away with the water.
Just put it in the widest, most shallow casserole you can, and bake it a little longer if you think it’s too crunchy, turning down the heat if it’s getting too brown, but it’ll probably be just fine.
Most people enjoy some browning.
Without the sour cream and cheese, and no parboiling, you can roast raw sliced cauliflower with a little olive oil in a single layer on a sheet pan at 425 or so for half an hour, and it’s already brown and fairly soft.
We like it fried (without parboiling) in neutral vegetable oil with anchovies, freshly ground black pepper and a dash of lemon juice. Eat with white bread.
Ok, feeling a little younger again, cos I just read that the Rolling Stones, all somewhere around Grace Slick’s age, have announced their 2024 tour dates.
However, Grace herself said 30ish years ago, when she (mostly) retired from singing, that anything past 50 was too old for rock and roll.
And I remember David Letterman around the same time doing a top ten list of names for thatyear’s Stones tour, in the mid(?) 90s…
Of course I don’t remember them all, only that my favorite was “Rolling Stones Live, plus Keith Richards.”
30 years later, sadly minus Charlie Watt, they still draw huge crowds.
Take that, Dave and Grace!
I just got off the phone with Stelbel…
there’s definite improvement. She was coherent and spoke words (haltingly but distinct).
Mostly she just answered questions but I got the feeling she was completely aware of where she was and what she was going through. I told her that you guys were asking about her and asked her if she had a message for them.
she said : “don’t……..give…….up……the fight!”
I think she’s taking her own advice.
Her birthday is on December 6th….
Again, here’s her current address:
The MRI did not happen. I was mis informed about the price. They want $6,000ºº for that.
We still saw the neurologist. She told me that QT either has Meningitis or a bran tumor. We are treating for the Meningitis. The tests with the neurologist cost $954.55.
Thank you all that have donated already. At this point i think that i am covered for what i can do for her.
At this point i’m just waiting to see if the antibiotics are going to do anything.
Thank you all again.

What a ham!
Or maybe a turkey.

If he was black instead of brown that would be Buddy.
He’s a clueless idiot.
I think that’s the definition of “puppy.”

That is quite an image! Fascinating but frustrating. How is that done?
The curved one? Hell, I can’t even find the straight one.
Is this a trick question?
I don’t think there IS a curved line.

I would if they would stop moving.
on the set of The Andy Griffith Show
So many people, cameras, lights, and microphones, so many cables, wires, and wheels, in such a big space…
all to create the illusion of simple, tight close-ups of homey, uncomplicated people and places.
No scifi, or space ships , or technical details to show off.
Plenty of the latter in use, all hidden behind the cameras.
But why is the Clapper wearing Andy’s Police hat?!
I was just goin t comment on that—perhaps a limited budget called for some of the actors to be stagehands—or vice versa
Service station attendants wore hats like that, mebbee . . .
I’m thinking it’s more like a captains hat.

Buddy has yet to do that.

Was she a celebrity?
She still is.
She really was beautiful.
Some so-called beauty is illusion… your eye fooled by makeup, hair, and attitude.
But she was the real deal.
She was very smart, and knew how to use illusion as well, but even without it, in candid snapshots, you rarely see her not looking great.

Mom would steam the thing whole and drizzle butter and toasted slivered almonds on them.

Speaking of groaners …
Liverlips, you said something about pussycats HERE. You could very well be right.
This is another example of serendipity. This was going to be a separate third person posting, but I came back from the test post, and there you were.
Cute, but probably extremely unwise for both human and pussycat.
probably, but I sure would’ve loved to experience it
