I have just received a major shock.
The phone number of a friend of long standing is no longer operational.
He was not in the best of health.
I last phoned him in April.
I knew him, not his family.
I have to find out what happened.
I’ll get back sometime next week if I have an answer.
Prepare for the worst.
We did last year when our best friend suddenly passed away – not from his long-term condition, but toxic fumes from his computer (as we learned later).
Same with his phone back then. We had talked only a few weeks earlier; sometimes, he just wanted his own time (answering service then) and came back to us later.
No close family. His girlfriend informed us as soon as she learned of his death (she wasn’t in town earlier because she had to take care of her very ill mother) and had our number – we had reached out to her because of our growing worries.
The incomparable musical howling of the one and only Cleo Clifford….
turning herself into the very incarnation of the late, great Billie Howladay.
…
Two stars, two divas, two larger than life personalities….
melded into one amazing legend.
Wow.
…
Billie Howladay had an amazing voice, an incomparable style… (until now) ….
and a mostly sad, short life, but for a few glowing triumphs along the way.
…
Mistreatment, drug abuse, and poverty, punctuated by alcoholism and recovery, aided by the often futile attempts of her friend and sometimes fiance Louie McBasset to save her.
All this interspersed with an on and off successful career as a jazz singer, songwriter, and recording artist…
including appearances on television, and one stunning concert that Louie secured for her at Carnegie Hall.
…
Cleo Clifford captures it all in her howled song stylings, inhabiting Ms. Howladay’s spirit like no other has managed.
You do know, though, that he’s a Rolling Stone, right?
Alternating lead and rhythm guitar, vocalist, co-writing most of their songs with Mick Jagger, who is the lead vocalist, Keith occasionally sings lead as well.
He’s “only” in his late 70’s, but he’s had a wild life, and it shows…
..and to think his unique gyrations were considered ‘obscene’ and his performances on tv were banned from the waist down.
Perry Como, Pat Boone, Tony Bennet, etc. relied entirely on their voices
to entertain. The shock of Elvis (in other words someone who introduced CHANGE)
was brutal to adults of the era who clung desperately to that which was familiar.
Elvis was different–that made him an object of scorn, to be feared and vilified by
folks like the guy at the beginning of the video
.
KEEP CALM
..ROCK ON

A puppy’s first autumn.

I love this one. It’s just so right.
Even without the sparkles.
Look at all the doggies!

So now we have to worry about our computers trying to kill us? Not trying to be funny ~ this is scary. Sorry about your friend.
Good luck.
You never know… it doesn’t have to be bad news.
Could he have moved, or been moved, to a care facility of some sort?
good luck, Alexi! prayers and good thoughts!
xxoo to you!
An evening to remember…

Five paws up!
What? Who has 5 paws?
LOL…. I’m going to stay way clear of the answer some people would give…
This being… you know… a family friendly site.
open WIDE!
great looking samwich!!
Looks like a Cubano…. ham, Swiss cheese, and Cuban roast pork (pernil) on a special roll.
In some places salami too. It’s a dispute, actually.
i only know Keith from the appearance on the Pirates movie. i enjoyed him immensely.

That’s why he gets teased about looking so old.
He could be 90 in this picture.
Any mention of Billy must include this one.
She went to jail for preforming this song.
Hard to imagine today, of the true need for such words.
We’ve collectively come a long way.
But we still have much, much farther to go.
amen
