The plight of homelessness…
(sad)

Actually, it’s not meant to depict homelessness, but the burden placed on women, who are often described as “not working”, while cooking, cleaning, and raising children.

I was going to comment about it last night, but it was very late, and I ran into a mystery that I still haven’t untangled.

On some sites, it was said to be in Barcelona, titled either “The Effort” or “The Burden” (La Carga), and created by either Fernando Botero or Jaume Plensa, not necessarily in the same combination.

On other sites, it was said to be in another Spanish city, made by Jose Luiz Fernandez and titled “The Woman Who Never Did Anything” (“La Mujer Que Nunca Hizo Nada”).

To make it even more confusing, the last one was sometimes illustrated with the same picture, and sometimes the one below.

Plus, there was even a site that proclaimed the statue non-existent, and the image AI, even though there was a link to a Tik Tok video of it. I don’t have Tik Tok.

i labeled the image with all the above and went to bed.

Yesterday, we had one with Van Gogh’s “Bedroom at Arles”… This one a detail from another of his paintings.

Both are houses in the small village of Brzozki, in northern Poland (population about 120), which has no connection to Van Gogh, himself, but which, 10 years ago, started embracing his art.

Some art students from a bigger city were engaged to paint a few murals of his paintings. The idea caught on, and there are about a dozen, maybe even 15 by now, on different homes, cafes, and public buildings.

It has inspired other kinds of art, as well… Art students have been doing original paintings on boulders, there are sculptures, and art classes… And sunflowers growing everywhere.

For a couple of years, there’s also been a Van Gogh festival every year that draws a few thousand tourists.

According to the file name, this is “Chez Julien”, by Tito Lucaveche.

We have yellow ducks here in DC. 17th ST NW just south of M ST NW on the west side of the street. Really close to the National Geographic Building.

I’d have to say it’s a pyramid – a hole wouldn’t cast a shadow.

Agreed. It’s a tiny shadow, but it’s definitely a shadow.

I assume we may regard the designation this carries as “Adam Burke” is intended to convey the author, and not the subject, of the piece.

Oh yes. They get that and many other facial expressions if you know them long enough. Very much like people.

Just in case you still believe that lightning doesn’t strike twice….here’s lightning hitting the 3 tallest buildings in Chicago at once.

Well, pretty much at once. It’s actually a timed exposure, but according to the photographer, less than a minute long.

6 strikes, two on each building, some simultaneous, all within a minute.. in fact, most within 27 seconds, with a couple of outliers.

Apparently, because they’re the tallest, they get a very high percentage of all the lightning strikes in the area.. that’s why you see no other buildings being struck, at least during that minute.

Benches?

Yeah, that’s what I was going to ask.

It’s hard to tell the size of them… if they’re big enough, maybe they’re benches for around a pool?

Otherwise, large or small, I don’t want to think about why they get wet so often you’d want rotating ones.

I was thinking that they were little shoe-cleaning devices for people coming indoors out of wet weather. You know, the old cry of “Stop tracking mud across my nice, clean, kitchen floor!”

Okay, I finally googled them. They’re bigger than I thought.

They’re park benches, made so you can roll them after they get rained on.

The framework is powder coated steel, and the seats are made of wooden slats.

Absolute nonsense.

Of course, I doubt a human wrote it, and AI only knows what’s in its database, which is determined by what it’s been given to to absorb.

But these are mostly real food. Sure, deep frying isn’t healthy, neither is sugar. But I don’t see many fake foods or artificial ingredients on this list.

Too much meat and cheese and no vegetables isn’t a great diet. But that doesn’t make them the worst “junk food”… Not even close. They’re real food, high in protein, and they’ve sustained mankind (yeah, yeah, and womankind) for millennia.

Takis and Choco Pies might be on the list… still, there’s far worse junk food than even those.

No, you shouldn’t eat a ball of fried dough with cream inside, but one once in a while won’t actively harm you . I’m not sure you can say that about some of the processed foods out there.

I want to yell at parents buying kids “Lunchables” with highly processed bits of salty meat, and “cheese” made of vegetable oil… plus popscicles and soft drinks made of water, artificial color, and artificial flavor. Processed cereal with more sugar than candy bars.

Go to the fair, and look at deep fried battered pickle slices… worse, funnel cakes, the batter drizzled into oil, so it has more fried surface, drenched with fake fruit syrup (corn syrup and flavoring) and artificial whipped cream made of corn syrup and oil.

I’m sorry, but to me, lab created fake hamburger is more like “junk food” than real meat, too.

If a live person took this photograph, then (s)he must be certifiably insane. If it’s an auto-triggering, or remote-operated camera, then great job choosing your sites and fantastic luck too!

I would think that supersonic flight and the space achievements would be due to the scientist and engineers that created the vehicles and equipment these famous people used to make these achievements. I would also like to include Nikola Tesla in the electric motor development.

When you talk about junk vs healthy food… I wonder where Cleo’s kibble omelet falls on that scale.

It depends on the kibble, I’m sure. Some is quite healthy, but some is full of stuff I wouldn’t feed to a… well, literally, to a dog.

Beef by-products are something you’d never want to smell, much less taste… All the yucky stuff humans won’t eat.

I know some of that is just unreasonable prejudice on our part. No reason we can’t eat all the internal stuff, we just don’t want to. Dogs (and wolves, tigers, and hyenas, etc) don’t make that distinction. But by-products also contain other things not even dogs should eat, and are produced with questionable sanitation and storage.

Degermed corn meal… in other words, corn with the nutritious part removed. Corn syrup solids… Like giving them sugar. And more.

I’m sure Cleo only eats high quality kibble. Otherwise, she’d never choose it over a burger. In fact, I’m surprised she does anyway. But she loves her kibble.

Meanwhile, there’ve been some changes at the restaurant. Maybe they read my comment as I was writing it, and went out and got some better kibble. But nine things have changed…. do you see them?

Here’s what I see… how about you?
