I have just learned (through Wikipedia) that “The MUNSTERS” was created by the same people (Joe Connelly and Bob Mosher) who created “Leave it to Beaver” (spellings from the respective opening credits).
There, after all these years, is the probable explanation for why I never really liked the show (I never did see the attraction of “Leave it to Beaver” either).
I know, I know, I’m weird.
Are we talking about the same version of “The Munsters” here?
Fred Gwynne, Yvonne de Carlo, Al Lewis (who died not too long ago) vs. John Schuck etc. in “The Munsters Today”?
I’m speaking of the original “The MUNSTERS” which ran September 24, 1964 – May 12, 1966 (CBS).
As an aside, “THE ADDAMS FAMILY” (spelling again from opening credits) ran September 18, 1964 – April 8, 1966 (ABC).
When ABC replaced “THE ADDAMS FAMILY” with “BATMAN”, the demise of “The MUNSTERS” occurred shortly after due to ratings loss.
I always thought “The Munsters” was an attempted knock-off from “The Addams Family” (Thich I loved). I didn’t care for it like I didn’t car for “Leave it to Beaver”. All I saw in the latter was Beaver being ignored or being bullied by Wally’s psycho friend and no one ever noticing it. It was too much like how I grew up.
I’m too young (boy I like the sound of that) to remember Leave it to Beaver very well (I did see it as least a few times). But I remember the Addams Family, I had crushes on Morticia and Wednesday.
Thanks for posting this. I enjoyed it. 🙂
I hope “THE HISTORY GUY” does a history on Jack’s sister Pati too (a history of their cousins, the O’Clocks wouldn’t be that interesting though / they just fritter away their time).
Any news from (or about) Old Phart Plods? I’ve been sacrificing cows, but the herd is getting just a little depleted. I’ll have to go out for more soon. Would sacrificing pigs work too?
I’m worried too… but a lung transplant is incredibly major surgery, even more so if it’s a double transplant, which I meant to ask Plods and forgot.
I know you’re intubated for hours or days, and can’t talk, hooked up to all sorts of IVs and machines…. probably can’t even think about using a tablet or phone, if there’s even one within reach, for at least a day or two.
They keep you in the hospital a long time… a week to several weeks… though of course your condition gradually improves.
…
I also meant to ask Plods whether anyone in his family, especially the son he lives with, had his Cleo and GoComics log-in info, so they could keep us posted.
I’m thinking they don’t, and hoping I’m wrong.
…
All I can say is… Hang in there, Plods!
We’re sending you all our best thoughts and prayers!
I wish you could see that, but I’ll just have to try hard to send it telepathically.
And if anybody in the family DOES know how, and sees this… please let us know how it’s going!
His posting on the 15th informing us that his new lung had been found was at 01:20 hrs. E.D.T.
His last post of the same date was at 10:30 hrs. E.D.T. telling us:
“Update: No scheduled time for the surgery yet. They are waiting on the donor team. Could be as early as 6pm CDT or as late as tomorrow morning. On the plus side, I get breakfast!.”
So even if everything went smoothly from that post onward he’s only just over 61 hours from the start of his surgery.
Britain’s National Health Service website says:
“A lung transplant usually takes between 4 and 12 hours, depending on the complexity of the operation.”
In short, Susan is more than probably right.
He’s just not in any shape to work a computer even if he’s in a place in the hospital that allows it.
Hi, not sure what this is referring to, my fat cats on GC is the old gag about buying and selling a boat, not seeing what you are referring to, maybe I’m just dense today, LOL
It’s a classic tale… though considered a “horror” movie, it contains no spooky evil, blood, or gore…. no shocking surprises.
The monster, himself, was rather tame… when I saw the film as a child, I felt pity for him.
While parts might attempt to be scary, I’ve seen it so many times, that it no longer frightens me.
In fact, both the basset and human copydog posters have almost a comic book quality to them…
partly, I guess, cos of their title lettering, and the basset monster’s face.
…
Besides, I’ve read… OK, attempted to read… the original 1816 novel … “Frankenstein” by Mary Shelley,
I was about 19, the age at which she mostly wrote it, though it took her two years.
I tried cos she was the wife of my then poetic hero, Percy Bysshe Shelley.
(That sounds so quaint, now.
I can’t imagine today’s teenagers reading Shelley, Keats and Byron.)
Truth be told, hers was one of the first books in which I ever allowed myself to skip vast swaths.
Those of you who think I’m verbose… come on, I know you do…. should try reading Ms. Shelley.
You couldn’t be scared, because every otherwise frightening moment is described in slow detail…. i.e., several pages of adjective-dripping, early 19th century prose.
…
Her life is more interesting… she and Shelley ran away together when she was 16, in the early 1800’s.
They wrote books, were political and social radicals, had an open marriage, and many love affairs… like a 1970’s movie.
….
Trivia…. In the book, Dr. Frank had no assistant.
In this film, both human and dog versions, he has a hunchbacked assistant named… Fritz.
It took a lot of years and film versions for the idea to become common that his assistant was “Igor.”
Also, in the book, the monster was a proclaimed vegetarian.
He’s not about to eat anybody.
He eavesdrops outside a cottage… and soon becomes literate and articulate.
Rather like the unintentionally funny 1812 Tarzan, who teaches himself to read, then writes like a Victorian gentleman.
The idea back then was that human (and, I hate to say, white) genes were innately civilized and would eventually triumph.
You must, must, post this.
I believe that it’s so imbedded in the mythos that you can no longer have one without the other lurking in the wings… 😀
But then you have to include this:
Isn’t that the loveable Fred Gwinne Frankenstein?
Looks like it to me!
no hiding behind the couch on the series!

I bet there were new time slots involved.
Incidentally, “Addams” was taken from the cartoonist Charles Addams, whose characters they all were.

Were they involved with “Car 54 Where Are You?” too? I thought the humor was similar and shared at least two cast members.
Loved Addams, hated Munsters. There was a real warmth to the Addams Family.

Maybe some barrels of brew?
And I’m not talking about tea.

makes a lot of sense!
(see my response to jp steve at the bottom of yesterday’s post.)
Yes, it does take a long time……so not worried yet. I do wish we could hear something. Just hope things are going well!

He emailed me… had to be on a phone or tablet, cos I’m pretty sure he’s not lugging a laptop…
Sorry, I read his Cleo post late, so I only just realised that the email was a few hours later, and newer information.
At 4:30 pm on the 15th, he said they were telling him the surgery would probably be at noon on the 16th.
He didn’t write again, but having waited for things in hospitals, I’d say that they’re more likely to happen later than predicted, not earlier.
…..
It’s a long operation, so he probably wasn’t even in recovery till Sunday night, not yet 48 hours ago.
Extra number 4 scene with KARLOFF (opening credit) occurs at the 26 minute 16 second mark of “BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN” (1935).
Chocolate cupcake
Another pork month recipe.
chocolate! yum!
Let’s share a dozen. Oh, chocolate ~ so no sharing. Looks really good, though.

Not a very flattering picture of Rita.
I don’t know those other guys.

Which happens to be today’s FatCats, by Charlie Podrebarac, on GoComics.
A rerun, but I keep reading them.
Sometimes he does Frankenstein Week, though I don’t think he has seven.
Hi, not sure what this is referring to, my fat cats on GC is the old gag about buying and selling a boat, not seeing what you are referring to, maybe I’m just dense today, LOL
He has two daily comics at GC. Here’s the other one today:
https://www.gocomics.com/cowtown/2022/10/18?ct=v&cti=1816599
thanks, I don’t follow cow town, she thru me when she said fat cats
Sorry!
I meant CowTown!
It was 5am, and I saw Nighthawks’ post as I was groggily shutting down the computer to go to bed.
I wanted to credit Charlie, but mixed up the title.
There’s always a link from one to the other if you open either.
Thanks, Perky!
I’d say I gotta stop posting at 5am, but then ….
Well, I wouldn’t be able to post at 5am.
Surprise! I got here!
And I don’t have to hide from “Frankenbasset”.

stel, i love today’s poster! especially ms mae bark’s costume.
Yes, a great poster! The bassets make it easier to look at. Not a Frankenstein fan.
me, too.
Wow, Bobbie Picket’s face is really entertaining.
When he‘s not singing, he doesn’t look like he could produce those faces or that deep voice.
