I believe most people were young, at some point between birth and “old guy”…
But somehow we’re surprised, if we haven’t seen it before, or don’t remember. LOL
…
My mom liked Ray Milland when I was a kid.
She thought it was a shame that he almost always played gangsters and villains, because he was so good looking.
I couldn’t see it then… I do now.
I thought of him back then as that guy… I think the word might be “looming”… in a dark coat, with his pocket halfway hiding a pointing gun.
….
I tended to dismiss my mother’s opinion of attractiveness anyway, because while my sister and I argued Clark Gable vs. Cary Grant, my mom preferred David Niven to either.
Besides that, she thought Victor Mature was handsome. Say what?
But now I think it’s odd that certain stars, like Gable and Grant, are considered icons, while others, like Milland, who were huge in their day, are rarely mentioned.
I do not know who is walking whom here. But if I was that girl’s parents, I wouldn’t give a second thought to letting her go out walking “by herself” as long as she had the cavalry in tow.
I’d be more afraid that she couldn’t control half a ton of
dogs, if they all decided to chase something, or even lie down for a nap, than that anybody would be foolish enough to attack her.
Or what if some passing Great Dane or Rottweiler picked a fight, and there was a doggie melee?
I’m calling two proofreading errors in the copy too:
“Viewers shall be placed…”…? …that’s an instruction to the tour conductors.
“Harm” is a noun thus “…harms way…” should have an apostrophe on one side of the “s” or the other (depending on how many “harms” from an atomic blast are being acknowledged).
If you remember the late Art Bell, it was from the “Kingdom of Nye” that he broadcast his show “Coast to Coast AM”.
I stopped listening to it after his retirement because the people who took it over changed it from Bell’s no-call-screening format into just another talk-show.
I agree with both your reviews.
There’s a copy available in one of the library branches, but it’s a two hour round trip diagonally across the city; so I just put a hold on it. It could be here by Friday, but more likely Monday.
There was another of his books released in 2009 titled “Plan For Chaos” (40 years after his death) that is stated to be a prequel to “The Day of the Triffids”.
Wyndham is said to have been writing it at the same time as Triffids and, to mix mediums, it-was-left on-the-cutting-room-floor for 40 years.
I’ve put a hold on it too, but when the picture of the cover has credits to two editors (David Ketterer and Andy Sawyer) I know I can be reasonably certain that there was a reason it wasn’t published in Wyndham’s lifetime, but as I have been pleasantly surprised in the past by these things (rarely….but still) I’ll give it a try.

,
This is a partial posting of the working concept art for the 2015 fantasy film “Crimson Peak”.
I could find no direct artist credit.

I dunno, that’s a lot of dog she’s attached to.
And those compact short legged ones can be hard to stop/start once they dig in!
Pops Schnauzer was like that when he got stubborn.
Six days per week?! In “an tower”? I call shenanigans.

I thought it was fake, but I searched and it seems to be real.
I didn’t see proof of this poster, but I did see reporting of the buses and the event.
My first thought.
