Book cover art for a French translation of “Moby Dick” (€ 5.90 ) by Gérard DuBois.
I’m guessing it was abbreviated because it was aimed at children (a practice I have never agreed with for any book child or adult / boo, Reader’s Digest).
I don’t recall Ahab having a beard, but I’m open to correction.
This is not the first time this has happened.
I went looking for the artist’s(s’) credit(s).
Image searches using Google, Bing, or Tineye did not find an image match, just “related images” (or in the case of Tineye, nothing), and yet you came across it and posted it.
I have seen the related images listed as wallpaper, generated by artificial intelligence, or as part of a corporation’s collection, none with any credit listed.
Please, what U.R.L. will take me to this image on the web?
A picture link to the comic book (the cover, as above comes up first).
It was published in 1953.
From the advertisements, this comic was aimed at an adult market (as to the one on page two, what did they do with the returned ones?).
Today’s Songs:
‘Rainshowers,’ ‘Rainy Day Woman,’ ‘Raise a Little Hell,’ and ‘Ramblin’ Man,’ and the ‘Cheap Thrills Cuisine’ recipe ‘Baked Chicken Pasta.’
Pagliaro is out of Montreal; there is another of his further down the list.
Bob Dylan; some I like, some I don’t.
Remember ‘3 Dressed Up As A Nine’ from September 5? Same group. There are two more below, and I’ve slotted ‘General Hand Grenade’ back up at the Gs for the second list.
There is no evidence that any of the Allmans was born in the back of a Greyhound Bus anywhere (Greyhound left Canada entirely back in 2021).
Apropos of absolutely nothing, I got my flu shot and Covid booster today (officially yesterday by today’s date, but it’s before midnight still for me).
You piqued my curiosity.
If I’ve heard a “Talking Heads” (formed 1975 in New York City) song before, I do not recall it.
This one, at least, won’t be making my list of songs I like (I made it about halfway through before shutting it down).
Talking Heads was a New Wave band… post-punk, artsy.
Led by David Byrne, I think they were all art students when they started.
All their lyrics are rather surreal and detached, and I don’t really take them literally.
You may know this one….
But most of their songs start out slowly.
Get about a minute or a bit more in before you judge, or decide you’ve never heard it… even if you have to skip some (the good thing about videos vs records).
Pop would never put syrup on his pancakes. He treated them like toast or an English Muffin.
He preferred silver dollar too regular sized because they were easier to pick up.
He folded the big ones like a tortilla. 😀
Alexi and Dennis mentioned getting flu shots and Covid boosters yesterday.
Well…. I have a hard time sharing health information…
But I had a long-awaited appointment Tuesday with my doctor.
Monday I felt ill, but I didn’t want to cancel, so I did a home Covid test, which they require if you’re sick l before an appointment. Negative.
Tuesday I felt fine anyway, so I went.
While I was there, I got the usual blood tests etc, and also a flu shot.
I wanted the new formula Covid booster and also the new RSV vaccine, but at my HMO they’re given in two different places, neither of which is my doctor’s office.
I got home and felt sick again.
The next day, feeling worse, I did another Covid test.
Guess what.
Positive.
….
I have Covid.
My three year safety record of caution and masking is shot.
I went to the pharmacy today (I know, I know, but I’m short on minions) and picked up a prescription for Paxlovid, the antiviral I’m lucky to get. Started it.
I don’t feel terribly sick, and I’m breathing fine.
I can’t say I feel well. Symptoms come and go.
I have had it twice diagnosed, and once, I think, un-. After getting it in September, 2022, when I was prescribed Paxlovid, I got it again in May, 2023. It forced me to reschedule cataract surgery and to miss my niece’s wedding.
That metallic taste lasted for days after I had stopped taking it. I customarily drink fresh brewed tea made from loose tea leaves. But while I had that taste already ruining anything I ate, I drank the cheap stuff made with teabags. No sense drinking high-quality, expensive tea when you can’t taste it.
.
Relax, “gramps.” I’ve got your back.
wWOOOoooooow!
Is that another dog behind them?
well……. i don’t see another nose…
If it is, it’s not a Basset.
Good call😁
I’m hoping it’s a shaggy blanket and not a Newfoundland.
I’m thinking more wiry haired, like… I dunno.. a Giant Schauzer?
But it might be some kind of fur throw.
2 NOSES!

I never met him so I don’t know if he had a beard.
But I have to say he looks just a bit too trim and tidy here… more military than long-at-sea rogue whaler.
And there’s me thinking it was “The eye of the storm” 😉

…
I wonder whose selection of still images this is. It might help to explain why they were chosen to know who chose them.
looks rather random to me….if you’ve seen this 1960 movie as many times as I have, it’s quite easy to identify which scene these shots came from
.
Looks rather like the witchy version of the Bates Motel.
This is not the first time this has happened.

your efforts to identify some of the stuff I post are much appreciated–makes my job easier
.
Looks like Bogart and Bacall to me 🙂

I barely remember “Raise a Little Hell”. It’s great but didn’t get much airtime.
What a touching testimonial from Cleo, Claude, Nighthawks, and Stel Bel to one of the most famous scenes in movie history.
Thank you all.
Apropos of absolutely nothing, I got my flu shot and Covid booster today (officially yesterday by today’s date, but it’s before midnight still for me).
Me too.
The only thing you missed was some ink from the paper swirling down the drain.
(Sings)
“Psycho Basset
Qu’est-ce que c’est ?
fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa far better
Run run run run run run run away”
(With apologies to Talking Heads)

Best version was the live version on Stop Making Sense.
…or Mel Brooks.
His version was classic!
Chicken and Waffle day
That’s a meal I’ve never understood.
Do people put maple syrup on the chicken??
I don’t even put it on my pancakes, so maybe that’s why I don’t get it.
Try it with tartar sauce.
I am being serious.
The chicken or the waffle (shudder)?
Pop would never put syrup on his pancakes. He treated them like toast or an English Muffin.
He preferred silver dollar too regular sized because they were easier to pick up.
He folded the big ones like a tortilla. 😀
My grandpa taught me to eat them dry with granulated sugar. I still do.
With a fork, or sometimes picking up tiny ones.
My father hated the sound and used to pretend(I think!) to be mad at his father for that.
He said it made him think of eating sandy food at the beach… but Grandpa and I loved our pancakes.

I should be ok.
BTW… I know some people want pats on the head for every sniffle, others love describing their symptoms. It’s ok.
But I grew up in a house where saying “I have a headache” or “Gosh, my left leg fell off” was considered whining.
I don’t hold other people to that standard whatsoever, but I’m hard on myself.
This, though, I felt I should share.
It’s only taken me 2 days to do it, and I still feel like apologizing.
Saying I did Covid tests reminded me:
Once again, every household in the US (sorry Steve, Alexi, MCTS, et al) can get 4 FREE COVID tests at
https://www.covid.gov/tests
No credit card, no questions asked except name and address, and I suppose you can give a fake name.
I don’t recommend giving a fake address.
I just hate it when my left leg falls off.
and the right for that matter
And right before dinner!
Please keep us updated.
Get better soon!
Take care of yourself ! ! !
you’ll feel better soon, ms. susan. that’s an order, ya hear!
I took Paxlovid about 13 months ago for Covid. It helped, but it left a nasty, metallic taste in my mouth for several days afterward.
I’m already tasting that, or at least I was last night.
Very strong!
Paxlovid is a pain but of course I’m not going to stop taking it.
Glad you did ok (I hope!) with Covid.
Didn’t know you’d had it.
I have had it twice diagnosed, and once, I think, un-. After getting it in September, 2022, when I was prescribed Paxlovid, I got it again in May, 2023. It forced me to reschedule cataract surgery and to miss my niece’s wedding.

Take care. It sounds relatively mild, I hope it stays that way. I got my Covid shot last week and will get the flu shot at work next week.
the movie starts at 6pm behind the scardy cat couch. i will make sure to have plenty of masks susan doesn’t feel left out.
Well, I’m supposed to be in quarantine.
But since we meet virtually, maybe it’s ok.
I’ll ask my virtual doctor.
I probably can’t give you virtual Covid.
…
I’ve been thinking about how lucky we are these days to have the Internet when we’re sick or otherwise confined… or simply live alone.
And smart phones for texting.
I’ve always been pretty good with being alone… even before computers… but today’s communication makes it so much easier.
We can have friends and watch movies and shop and learn things from bed… Would’ve been a miracle in 1972.
To me it still is!
