For some people, being born is a long, drawn out process.

It only ends when they’re fully adult.

All the grandkids don’t think of me as an adult. I’ll grow up with them when I have to. In the meantime, I’ll enjoy them as they are at this age.

I have a friend who makes 3D printers. He made a 3D bioprinter (print veins & arteries with living cells) for his PhD project. He went to Africa with a bunch of 3D printers and set them up for making simple prostheses. I will forward your link to him.

I am over 65. I’ve never smoked a day in my life. Yet doctors and medical people continually ask me if I smoke. I have taken to telling them that I’m considering taking it up “because I want to be one of the ‘cool kids’.”

I just went through a couple of days of that.

I had a question for my doctor, and one for the pharmacy at my HMO.

It’s the same if you’re caling to make an appointment, though you can also do that online.

You can’t just call anybody any more.

You have to call the “Appointment and Advice Line”.

It’s answered by a person who takes the details of your question, but turns out not to be the one who gives you advice, but the one who directs your call to the nurse or pharmacist who gives you advice.

In the case of the nurse, she didn’t answer my question either, but had a doctor call me.

At every level of those encounters, I was asked a list of questions, whether or it not I had just answered them.

Are you allergic to any medications?
Which ones?
Have you ever been diagnosed with COPD, pneumonia or another breathing disorder?

There are about six more, including do you smoke or have you ever smoked.

I said things like “why don’t you just ask the person who answered this call?”

They don’t get that I’m joking.

I told the doctor maybe smoking would be a good way to occupy myself while waiting through these layers of calls.

At least he laughed.

First they call her “Young lady” when she’s obviously a grown woman… she looks well out of her 20s to me.

Then they suggest women might want to commit suicide if a few hairs are out of place, as in the illustration.

Then they try to sell us a little jar of vegetable oil and lanolin to grease it up with and make it look tidy.

None of that is patronizing, right?

Of course not! If she had a brain, none of that would affect her in the slightest, right? Then again, if she was a typical girl/woman/young lady, this ad could hit her right in her weakness. At least, that’s what these moronic ad people are relying on. Well, how well did Charles Antell Formula 9 and Shampoo sell, based on this ad? Did somebody get a bonus because sales went up? Or did they change to another ad agency because this one just had no feel for the demographic at that time?

SusanSunshine

Apparently Formula 9 sold quite well for a while.

Happy to say Charles Antell is long out of business though.

I couldn’t find much about the company.

One website that didn’t give any source material said he was driven out of business in 1954 cos his “lanolin” was actually lard…

But comments from others about using it, maybe even in the 60s, seem to refute that.

So true. Thousands of worthy causes and charities, but impossible to help them all. Like most people, I have a few that I contribute to; food banks, the Arts, environmental issues, public broadcasting, historic preservation. Some are hyper-local, some national.

Today’s puzzle is based on another work by Peter de Sève.
The title is apparently “The Man Who Was Eaten Alive”, but I don’t consider the sites that have that title reliable.
I’m just not into doing the puzzle today (I’ve looked at Susan’s solution though).
While searching this one I finally came across a title for     THIS ONE     “Jurassic Paris”.

Haven’t looked at the puzzle today, I’ve only recently got back home after exhibiting a layout at my Model Railway Club’s annual running day. We hold our annual exhibition earlier in the year, and do a smaller running/open day at the village hall where we hold our monthly meetings around this time of year. I then went on to deliver a layout to one of our members who had asked me to rewire and convert to digital control, and fit a sound chip to the model locomotive he runs on it. It’s been quite a long day, and I’ll give the puzzle a look tomorrow.

I do have a Wallace and Gromit themed layout aimed at kids. It’s set up that you get a kid to try and knock Wallace’s stovepipe hat off (He’s the loco driver) with a hot air balloon that slides down a wire while the train travels around the track. It’s quite fun at exhibitions.

Today’s Songs:
‘Rebel Yell,’ ‘Reelin’ in the Years,’ ‘Renaissance,’ and ‘Ride Captain Ride,’ and the ‘Cheap Thrills Cuisine’ recipe ‘Baked Cranberry Brie.’
There’s a bonus video of a 1930 Library of Congress film clip of civil war rebel veterans giving the real rebel yell (I think Billy Idol was under a misapprehension as to what it actually sounded like).
For the longest time, I thought it was ‘Reelin’ in the sheaves…’ (on the bright side I know it’s ‘ting tang walla walla bing bang…’).
I like it, but it’s always struck me as ‘gloomy’.
I always thought you sailed on a ship, but the song’s neat. Mike Pinera (guitarist) went on to join ‘Iron Butterfly’.

The weirdest thing had happened here, when I came back and refreshed, just before my most recent comments.

About halfway down, some videos had moved up the page to replace the ones above them.

Hard to explain…

But first, I thought Tigressy had reposted Happy³s Elizabeth Cotton video to MCTS.

I got down to Happy³s post, and that video had been replaced by his Pete Seeger video from the comment below!

Next, his Seeger video below that was blank.

I refreshed the page again, and Wallace and Grommet showed up in Tigressy’s post, as intended, and Happy³s videos were back in their proper slots.

I’ve never seen that happen!
