Reading – anything – consists of pattern recognition. As true of music or other sorts of notation as of language.

Yep, at my usual speed too. But then I can read upside sown and backwards as easily as forward.

I thought for a moment that she was standing on a giant gas stovetop.

On my tablet screen, right near her feet, there was a fuzzy reflection of the light bulb from the lamp next to me, making me think one of those huge gas burners was turned on!

I kind of gasped… and then I laughed.

….

P.S… I just tried to use my phone camera to take a picture of my laptop screen, showing the reflection, cos it’s kind of funny.

If I had just one more hand, I could do it.
Too bad I can’t call anybody to give me a hand.

Amazing the things people think they can easily do that they can’t necessarily do at all.

And when it turns out that they couldn’t, after all, they’re ever so surprised. If they’re still alive.

They’re flat too?

From the ground they look like big round piles.

Well, the ones I’ve seen in other flat states, like Illinois and Ohio, do anyway.

I’ve never been above one, that I can remember.

I’m not sure if it’s WordPress or Itemfix but I’ve tried different ways of enlarging these unsuccessfully.
Here is the U.R.L. for Itemfix.

https://www.itemfix.com/

Warning: if you go to the site some of the postings are definitely N(ot)S(uitable)F(or)W(ork).
I don’t always post these when I find them, and this one is (at 7:36 A.M. E.S.T. today’s date on page 4 / to get to page 4 click on the “Latest” link next to the top logo and go from there).

Vlad, for those who don’t know, is also a character from Frog Applause. I hear he’s actually… a… a … nice fellow.

He hardly ever kills anybody.

Right, Vlad, my old pal? Did I tell you you’re looking good… um… friend?

True story. The last time my mom got her military id they took her photo against a wall that was the same white as her hair. In the photo all you could see was her face.

My DL photo looks like Whitey Bulger’s mug shot.
In case you don’t know, he was the South Boston mob boss/informer who was on the run for decades before he was found in California.

I didn’t drive till I was just about to turn 40.

The California DMV let me keep the same picture till my 65th birthday! 25 years!

I hated it when I was 40…. by my late 50s it started looking pretty damn good. I still look back at it kind of fondly. 😀

Last year, or maybe it was 2023, for no obvious reason… not a significant birthday… they said I had to get yet another new one and take the written test. I think my 3rd picture and 1st written test since the original ones.

In my current picture, with the bright flash they use at the new office, my face looks like a slightly washed out photo of a ripe red tomato. I don’t think I could ever live long enough to look back fondly at this one.
