Movie, “The Thing”?
But I also seem to remember a song in the 70’s opening with that or a similar line (and not associated to the movie) and done spoken, not sung, but for the life of me, I cannot remember that title.
Tcchh!
I remember the song now, similar, but close:
“Spill the Wine”, Eric Burdon & War:
I was once out strolling one very hot summer’s day When I thought I’d lay myself down to rest In a big field of tall grass I lay there in the sun and felt it caressing my face As I fell asleep and dreamed…
In another life I had a window display business and I once approached a store that had this era manikins in their window. They were quite insulted that I thought they could use my services. I didn’t get the contract. This was in the late 80s.
They’re window shopping at Wolf Brothers, Tampa, Fla., in 1950.
Christian Dior’s postwar New Look, of extremely wide shoulders and long skirts, using loads of fabric to counter wartime austerity, was by then getting toned down to fit the budgets and the more timid tastes of the average women…
We were, to my mind, entering the probably dowdiest period of fashion history… though it became very popular with vintage-wearing young Gen X and even millennial women, as a natural progression from boomer love of 1930s and 40s fashion.
Today’s vintage-wearing teenagers, Gen A, wear 1980s and 90s clothes that I don’t even realizen are vintage… LOL
He has a curved snout, a bit like a bull terrier… also reminds me of a borzoi, but short.
However I saw this picture posted in several places where he was described as a collie.
Then i discovered that it comes from a 1955 Life magazine… I found an image of the page, but of course the text was in the photo, where you can’t select and copy it.
So… I jumped through a couple of hoops, and got Google Lens to select and copy it.
The caption, from October 1955:
“Mrs. Hillard Hanson of Salem, Ore, likes all kinds of creatures and so does her dog Dusty. So when Mrs. Hanson’s daughter brought home three baby robins, Mrs. Hanson be came a foster mother and Dusty became fascinated by their bird-brain antics. When the birds started to fly, they learned
that Dusty’s shaggy head was a convenient landing place. Finally there came times when all three were perched on Dusty’s head at once. Now the robins have flown their Collie, and all but one which made the mistake of landing on a less civilized dog than Dusty-have headed south”
I’ve been having a little… er… discussion with the browser on my tablet about whether it wants to stay open and/or allow me to post.
Over and over, a few hours ago, it wouldn’t let me finish my Dr. Seuss puzzle list or give me time to make a spoiler box before freezing…. so I apologize for no spoiler box.
Meanwhile, a lovely Grant Wood painting for a poster… But somebody… not mentioning any names… has been changing things!
In fact, nine things! I’m going to go ahead and post the ones I found while the tablet is behaving (I hope!)…

You know they are relaxed when they start melting.

It blends so well into its surroundings.
A welcome sight on a weary drive.

Just waitin’ for that ACME anvil to come busting through the house and drop it into the canyon below…
So…. the canyon is full of water?
There are no differences to be found in that house.

Dance like no one’s watching!
You can almost hear the giggles and squeals!
Um…. about the extra front paw…. or?
The tail looks to be curled around the back of its body, shows up in the shadow. But does look a bit odd.
Kevin Costner, the early years.

Only “a few* under 14… so 14 is ok? And nobody minds a “few” 10 and 12 year olds mixed in.
The kid center front in the newsboy cap looks 9.
I know Lewis Hine wouldn’t have approved of that, so if it sounds positive, he was probably just a bit relieved it wasn’t worse.
My father left school and started work at fourteen.
I started working as a paperboy at 11. Paid for a lot of things school-related and that I wanted.

They do say people and their.pets start to look alike….
I always said she was kind of hawkish in her view of the world.

What breed is that pooch …looks like a cross between a bull terrier and a collie

I thought doggie was a collie
